The XFG is too short to be a Punto IMO, going by memory it's 3700+ mm long while the AX/106 Phase 1 are little shy of 3600 mm. There aren't many cars of that era that are as short.
That's probably because the AX/106 platform is a late 80s design, intended to be extremely light (in the first few years even the 106 had troubles with the windscreen cracking because it was too thin), while the Punto is more in tune with the bigger/heavier/more comfortable/safer tendency that started in the early 90s.
Also the length ratio between the cab and the front is quite revealing IMO. Judging by the photos, the Cultus/Swift had a longer bonnet, and while it is true that the 106 Phase 2/Saxo had a longer front too, it still looks not as disproportionate as the Cultus to me.
Then again anyone's free to see whatever car they like the most in the XFG
