Few pics from the USPG this year
Saw that someone had a picture thread going about their weekend and it reminded me I wanted to post my USGP F1 pics from June

All shot with Canon 20d and either 70-200L or 400L
Hope you all enjoy

Very cool! You seemed to be in the right places at the right times. Keep threads like this coming (if you ask me).
Some of those photos are amazing. Nice work. Though looking at them on a PDA does them no justice.

Great place to sit though.

We need more racing weekend shots.
WoW, really nice pictures there. I really must buy myself a descent camera to take pictures of this quality.

Nice pics, how much better realistically is the 20D compared to the 350D?, and the lens you had, what were they?.

Dan,
Ill echo what has already been said, but those really are nice pictures!

I especially like the crash scene you got as you can see Heidfeld flipping in the background!

Dan,

Dan, it really depends on what you're going to be shooting. The 20d has AI Servo focusing mode which auto-focuses very well on moving objects. I've heard there is a software hack for the 350d but I dont know for sure. Also, the 20d has a bit better build quality or feel to it if you ask me. I didn't much like the plastic body of the rebel and rebelXT, but that comes down to personal preference really.

I was shooting with "L" series glass in the pictures you see. I own a 70-200mm f/4 L and rented the 400mm f/5 from rentglass.com for a few weeks and drug it around all weekend. Its a beast to carry around and pan with...much heavier than what I'm used to. Needs a monopod, at least for me.
I originally had the lens you have but sold if after a year (only lost $60 on it...thank you ebay!) and go the 70-200. Not quite as long a reach but the extra quickness in autofocus and sharpness are worth the tradeoff.

One big tip though. Don't rent or buy L series glass unless you really plan to sink some money into your camera equipment. Once you try shooting with L glass you won't go back....its a sickness really. Much like LFS has become

Vendetta - PM me your email address. File is about 8mb but I have it in large-format TIFF

Thanks everyone for the kind words
Cheers for that, I brought a Mk3 USM 75-300 for mine, seems to work pretty well, I really need to look into using my 350D properly before I upgrade any further.

Oh, for the record, the 350D has the AI Servo mode too , but yeah, I agree with you on the body, I thought the rebel was a different (low spec) version of the 350D, is that not the case?.

Dan,
to be honest I'm not sure. I thought the 300d was just a previous release to the 350. who knows?!
Get the feel of the camera, then go for the glass like you said.

come october I should have some more shots. Going to Virginia for the Rolex series race. Cant' wait
