nope, not possible as far as i know.
0.6E was the last to support DX8.

If your potato PC doesn't support DirectX 9, there's a high chance it's performance would be too low to run LFS anyway.

Btw, how much of a potato are we talking about? I remember having a DirectX 9-capable PC some 15 years ago..

Are you actually playing on a literal potato? Just curious.
