Race Green 300km of Westhill - information and discussions

Race Green Events has always been offering some more different racing besides the standard racing - FXR rallycross in AWS,various layout courses in RTFR,short track racing in STARL and yearly car smashing in TiC. Now it's time for something different again - long distance racing on public roads! With this event we hope to start a new traditional annual challenge - 300 kilometers of Westhill.

The circuit is named Westschleife as it has a little faded resemblance of the famous Nordschleife - narrow twisty roads partially winding through woods, changing grip levels and high chances of a mistake. The measured distance of the circuit is 12.24 kilometers and unofficial lap record during testing is 6 minutes and 38 seconds - that means it will take 25 laps to complete the nominal race distance of 300 kilometers and the race can be finished few minutes under 2 hours and 50 minutes mark.

The organization does not encourage drivers to cover this distance alone as the circuit alone is quite demanding in terms of endurance, however single driver entries will be allowed - each entered car may be driven by 1-3 drivers during the race. Due relatively low speeds, the TBO class cars can reach up to 19 laps of 25 with single fuel tank, however tyre durability has not been tested and it's every entry's responsibility to plan their pitstop/driver swap strategies for this race.

Timetable:
Sunday,5th April
16:15 UTC / 18:15 CET - 30 minutes open track qualifying
17:00 UTC / 19:00 CET - race start
* the shown CET time is current (summer) time - if not residing in CET time zone, always refer to UTC for correct time zone convertion!

Qualifying:

Due the track length an outlap is very long and takes almost 1/4 of the qualifying time - all the drivers should be patient and leave large gaps (preferably even out of visibility range) to ensure a clean hotlap! Organization is encouraging to drive multiple hotlaps back to back as it will ensure more completed hotlaps.
Multiple driver entries are allowed to qualify only with 1 driver! The driver who qualified the entry must complete a minimum of full 10% of entry's total distance during the race!

Race:
Race will feature a different start - cars on the grid are placed in 45° angle related to starting straight. Admitted it is a bit experimental, while has a little resemblance of historic racing - organization advises not to force any unneccesary contacts during the race start and respect the faster qualified drivers!

Track limits:
Due the low average width of the course it is important to point out about track limits - track is defined by paved surface (asphalt/tarmac/cobblestones) and 2 wheels have to be on it at all times! Drivers may not cut corners over grass and also may not run wide on grass when exiting turns with more than 2 wheels. If such event happens due a mistake, driver has to lift off throttle to make sure no advantage is gained. Fastest laps in both sessions will be checked for any violations while other drivers might be randomly checked during whole race. Best way to avoid any penalties is to stay fair!
Exceptions - there are 2 places where drivers are allowed shortly cut over grass:
x In the S-turn exiting big parking lot in the far end of area - cutting permitted until (without touching) bales on the inside of each turn.
x In the narrow tight hairpin after 3rd split (with concrete road extension on outside) - cutting permitted until (without touching) posts on the inside of turn.
Posts have been placed all over the circuit to help orientate, even if they have no legal use,not hitting them should mean a clean lap.

Cars and restrictions:
To level out performance of all 3 TBO-class cars, some have been restricted. FXO is known being the easiest to race and fastest overall, while RB4 has a great advantage in this specific circuit due it's 4WD traction, therefore following restrictions have been decided:
  • FXO - 4% voluntary air restriction
  • RB4 - 1% voluntary air restriction
  • XRT - default
It is advised to test all 3 cars before signing up to decide the best car for your or your team's performance!
In server Airio monitors the restrictions and only the specified cars are allowed. To see best laps set in server with custom cars, type !top FXW/!top RBW or !top TBO for all 3 cars combined.

Other info:
Blue flag behaviour - due long lap very rarely such occasion might happen. Even if the usual Race Green Events' rule of "you may not block lapping car's passing manouvre" is used also here,it is advised to try not to stay ahead of lapping car and let by in safe location before lapping pass is needed. Lapping cars still have to be very patient, wait for safe opportunity to lap and not force a pass in narrow turns.

Basic racing rules - we'll use as always basic rules of clean racing and judge incidents with common sense. It is advised to avoid any contacts in any situation to ensure clean and fair racing.

Rejoins - in case of time out, rolled or undrivable car it is permitted to rejoin the race. To ensure better visibility of race positions, the rejoined entry will receive back the completed laps as soon as possible - race administration will check the replay during race. If the timeout or telepit has happened before reaching 1st split of a lap,one lap will be deducted to avoid possible misuse!

Postrace action - after the distance has been completed,3 highest finishing cars are asked to take a place on a podium for post race media, located between tribunes. It can be accessed when followed the track - after the roundabout section on the left side of the straight. After top3 have taken their positions and photos are made, all other competitors also may join the area besides podium for further photo sessions.

Chatting - is limited during the race session. Allowed are short communications like appologies, thanking for letting by or between drivers of same entry when deciding when to pit and make driver swap, allthough it is encouraged to use external voice chat application (Discord,Teamspeak, phone call or whatever suits best). Race Green Events can offer a private voice channel in it's discord server if needed.
Unneccesary conversations will receive warning first and if not stopped - entry will receive drive-through penalty.
Not competing observers may not use chat at all!

Skins - specific car skins are not required in this race, allthough it is suggested to have a skin that displays entry number on car's side. Also skins must fullfill lfsworld skin upload requirements and drivers may not use skins they don't have rights to use - like private skins of others or other teamskins.

Name format - entry number (may not be colored black or dark blue) required in front of your registered name, number and name must be seperated by a space.

Event server - server is online,is set in practice mode and has an Airio for laptime tracking. Airio can spectate connections with very high and unstable ping for safety reasons (stable connections even from Australia should not be affected). Server will be open for public use until race weekend. For private practice feel free to use the attached layout.

Event will be held using the latest stable version of LFS (currently 0.6U).

All information here can be changed,if so,notification will be posted about changes.

Server is now passworded and info has been sent to all entries!

New entries will receive the info eventually during the weekend! Signups deadline is sunday 16:00 UTC!

Incomplete entries should edit their signups before deadline!

SIDENOTE: Seeing exclusively only solo driver entries - I hope you are all aware of the race length of almost 3 hours on a track with very little chances to relax! The will to face the challenge is understandable, however everyone should be sure about his abilities so we can have a decent finishers list!
Anyone on discord or teamspeak later for this race? With the whole event taking about four hours I'd love to have some people around to talk to or to be talked to by.

Last sunday Race Green Events hosted it's 1st ever endurance type racing event, allthough some said it wasn't enduring enough and we hosted a longer event both in terms of distance and race time, but unlike the Summer 1000,in this race drivers had to use both pedals for most of the race and had a great workout with car's wheel through whole race distance. Balancing different cars sometimes does not work out well, but since there were 3 different cars in each sessions top3,seems like it worked out for this specific event. Allthough there was just a single entry with the mostly restricted car FXO,the entry proved restriction was not too high and won the race, closely followed by RB4 with the most popular car XRT taking 3rd place.

This new challenge received a total of 28 entries,2 of those were uncomplete, while 7 did not participate (1 of them showed up too late). From 19 participating entries,1 withdrew after qualifying,so the race had a total of 18 cars on grid. 12 cars finished the race on lead lap, which means 10 solo entry drivers completed the whole 25 laps distance, one of them on same set of tyres he started with. Noone attempted the eco-race mode and tried to complete the distance without pitstops - it was possible, but required sacrifying some race pace. Considering the race length and difficulty,it was surprising that only 2 multi-driver entries were formed, both of them shortly before the event and both finished the race on opposite ends of the results' top5.

Even the pre-event testing showed that FXO is the car to beat,so the only entry using this car was on top in both qualifying and race. The number 55's driver G.Peet set a new track record in qualifying with time of 6:38.13 (average speed 110.68km/h),while in race his best lap was just 0.2 seconds slower. The numer 55 TRR entry led the most of the race (23 laps),allthough had to regain their lead in 1st lap and had to give up the lead after their pitstop for 2 laps, but after reshuffling the order after pitstops, the number 55 TRR entry had a clean road ahead on the way to victory. After unlucky start and falling down in order, the number 10 entry Team S1dus,driven by Litti, made it's way back up in order and finished 2nd just 4.5 seconds behind winner, setting a new lap record for RB4 on his way. The number 51 entry of Team 6Speed was driven by Simox - he also advanced a position between start and finish to take the final step on the podium, finishing 37 seconds behind the winner.

The 1st ever challenge of this kind is now complete and the idea behind this is to make this an annual event. Current idea is to increase the distance to 400 kilometers for next race, maybe even revise the track a little, while keeping the racing on public roads. Seeing current developement trend, there is a hope that next revision of the event might happen with changing lighting conditions - initially considering start in late afternoon conditions and watch the sun getting closer to horizont during the race (just wishful thinking here).

Race Green Events thanks all drivers for participation and few other guys behind the scenes for their input and efforts. As always everyone is welcome to share their experience from the event, either in form of text, pictures or videos! Also (even if that rarely happens) - we're awaiting winner's speach!

This was a very fun race and I'm glad I joined.

This is what simracing is all about, a crazy combo, a long hard fought race, and no drama.

Had this heart stopping moment with a couple laps to go. But I survivedBig grin

A few more pics in attachements. Thanks again to RG and fellow racers.
