Short Track Auto Racing League 2020 - information

Short Track Auto Racing League
2020

Last year a new league joined Race Green Events' lineup, offering slightly different racing format - short tracks and medium race distance, run with a medium powered rear wheel drive sports coupe. Now the new league is back for it's 2nd season with some changes in it's schedule. The car for STARL will stay the same currently - it's the front engined rear wheel drive XRT,delivering 247 horsepower from it's 2 liter turbocharged engine, while car's dry weight is just over 1200kg. XRT will stay as STARL official car as long as there is other car added to LFS lineup deemed to suit better for format of this league.

The prologue round of inaugural season has now been added to championship schedule - season will kick off again with 300 laps long race at the 600 meter dirt oval. First half of the schedule will feature rounds at Aston's South configuration and paved version of Fern Bay's Rallycross Long configuration - the latter is by far the most difficult track for this season. Also the 2nd half of the season will start in an oval track - it's the brand new edition of Race Green International Raceway, where only the short triangle part will be used for racing. It's only 500 meters long and the race distance is set for 200 laps. Remaining 2 rounds of the season will be "easier" - South City Classic is a well known course while season finale will take place in Rockingham - at the recently tested East Handling Sprint track, which will be the only non-oval race shorter than 150km.

STARL will be run in the same time as last year - sunday evenings 19:30 CET / 17:30 UTC. All 4 road course rounds are set with nominal distance of 150 kilometers (allthough round 6 is rounded down to 100 laps/148km),which should be completed in just over 70 minutes in the fastest tracks, while the race at Fern Bay might get close to 90 minutes mark. Oval rounds are scheduled differently - the Dusty 300 is a challenge of it's own and was completed in just under 2 hours in last year's edition, while the 100km race at the triangle track will be around 70 minutes long.

Series schedule:
17.05.2020. Round 1 - Dusty 300 (Westhill Dirt Oval*, 300 laps)
31.05.2020. Round 2 - Aston 150 (Aston South*, 80 laps)

Each round will have a specific info and discussions thread in this forum section with all information of the round!
After round 5,no new sign-ups will be accepted. In last round only drivers received at least one point in standings will be allowed to participate!

Timetable:
17:30 UTC / 19:30 CET / 20:30 EET
- 20 minutes of qualifying
18:00 UTC / 20:00 CET / 21:00 EET - race start
* Given CET and EET times are current (summer) times! If you live outside CET or EET timezone, please always refer to UTC for correct time conversion!

Special notes on qualifying:
* In rounds 1 and 4 hotlap qualifying will be used, this means there will be no specific lenght of qualifying, every driver will run alone and have outlap and 2 hotlaps. Qualifying order series standings in reversed order (for round 1 standings from previous year),where drivers not in standings will follow in signups order). Minimum qualifying session length is 20 minutes and race start will be approx. 10 minutes after qualifying.
* If there are not enough drivers to fill the max allowed grid (40 cars),Drivers Championship top 10 drivers will be allowed to start from end of the grid if came late and missed qualifying - noone else will be allowed to start without qualifying. In round 1 this top 10 will be taken from last year's standings.
* To qualify for the race drivers have to set a laptime during qualifying session within 112% of best laptime of the qualifying session. This does not affect championship's top 10 drivers as they may start the race without qualifying or with laptime outside 112% of best laptime.

Championships:
STARL Drivers Champion - awarded to a driver with the most points scored through all 6 rounds, including attendance bonus points
STARL Oval Trophy Winner - awarded to a driver with the most points scored through 2 rounds run in oval tracks (rounds 1 and 4)
STARL Rookie of the Year - awarded to a driver, who hasn't started a single STARL race before this season (marked with (R) in standings sheets),with the most points scored through all 6 rounds, including attendance bonus points
STARL Teams Champion - awarded to a team with the most points scored through all 6 rounds (team will score finishing points from it's 2 highest finished drivers and all round bonus points)
STARL Nations Cup Winner - awarded to a nation with the most points scored through all 6 rounds (nation will score finishing points from it's 2 highest finished drivers and all round bonus points)

In all championships - in case of a tie, higher rated will be driver/team/nation with highest finishing position,if equal - it's amount,if equal - second highest position etc. If all finishing positions happen to be equal, higher rated will be selected using same system from qualifying results. If they also happen to be equal then as a tie-breaker will be used last round finishing position. In case a tied driver had a disqualification in one or more rounds,it counts as a primary rating lowering factor, when deciding tiebreak.

Rules:
We will not make a mile long rule book that noone will read completely anyway,so we will rely on common sence of competitors to behave and follow the basic Rules of Clean Racing. There will not be an admin in server who will specifically observe drivers' behaviour during the race. If any incidents reported/protested,we will take individual approach to each of them to decide best resolution or punishment if needed.

Basic guidelines as a reminder:
> Blue flag - you may not deny/block a passing manouvre of laping car and try a repass right after it. Due to the nature of shorter tracks, traffic is expected more than in other leagues. This means drivers catching lapped cars should be patient and not demand immediate pulling aside, while drivers being caught should keep racing at normal pace and on normal line and yield at any proper lapping car's overtake manouvre. In qualification it means - stay off racing line and don't disturb drivers on hotlap.
> Shortcuts - 2 wheels on track at all times. Track is mostly marked by white lines, rumble strips or at least defined by paved surface, while also curbs count towards track. Overtaking outside track counts as illegal and will be penalized in case of protest.
> Pit exit - allthough there will be no mandatory pitstop in this league, pit exit lines will have to be respected! Everyone caught crossing pit exit lines with more than 2 wheels will receive 10 seconds penalty added to finish result.
> Chatting - it's not completely outruled, but still drivers are expected to concentrate on racing. In case of too much chatting while ignoring messages asking to cease chatting,a penalty may be given. In case of any abusive/offensive language a penalty will be given! Non competing observers may not use chat at all!
> Lags - if there are any connection issues, driver will be asked to improve (close internet using programs). If driver will be considered as dangerous due to unstable connection,he will not be allowed to participate.
> Button clutch - is forbidden! Manual clutch is allowed only in combination with H-Shifter. Everyone caught using it will be penalized for unsportsmanlike behaviour with increased penalty for every next offence.
> Hacks/cheats - if used, you will not race with us. Ever. As simple as that.

Possible penalties:
> WARNING - any minor infraction that needs to be noted without penalty. Warned driver might receive bigger penalty for other infractions.
> 10s added to finish time - minor infractions, like illegal passing, pit exit line violation, chat misconduct.
> 30s added to finish time - medium infractions like causing avoidable incident[s] without serious consequences or unsportsmanlike behaviour, illegal passing.
> 1 lap penalty - medium infractions like causing avoidable incident[s] with consequences to other drivers (like affecting damage, multiple position loss) or unsportsmanlike behaviour.
> Disqualification for 1 or more rounds - heavy infractions, multiple incidents, unsportsmanlike behaviour. After serving disqualification, driver will automatically carry a "warning" for the rest of season.
> Series exclusion (including ban for any other events run under Race Green Events control) - serious infractions like intentional/revenge wrecking, event sabotage and any other malicious act.

ANNOUNCEMENT

Due unforseen situation Race Green Events is forced to change the schedule for this STARL season - each round has been pushed to place of next later round,so the season starts in 17th may (1 week later) and ends in 9th august. To avoid any further conflicts, there will be 4 weeks break between rounds 5 and 6. There will be no other changes in case that other organizational body can't keep their announced schedule once again.
STARL 2020 final standings

2nd edition of Short Track Auto Racing League has been complished and now it's finally time to look back at the season. First as usually let's look at plain numbers - there were a total of 22 signups (8 less than last year),from which 18 actually took part in at least one round (2 less than last year). Even if participation race improved, quality unfortunatelly suffered - only 13 drivers were classified in results as finishers in at least one round, while 3 drivers started in all 6 rounds. Attendance ranged from 11 in round 5 to 5 in rounds 2 and 6,averaging 8 drivers per round. 6 rounds produced 6 different race winners while there were 2 drivers earning pole position on 2 round grids.

STARL 2020 Drivers Champion: RGˆRony
The new series champion finished in top 6 in all rounds, including a race win in 2nd round and 2 3rd place finishes, while he never qualified higher than 3rd. T.Soini was just 1 point behind table lead before final round, but could not make the race more intriguing and at the end of the season cinched 2nd place in standings 3 points apart. Also T.Soini finished in top 6 in every round, while in 2nd round he scored his only podium finish by finishing 2nd. The defending champion Unite did not finish in 2 rounds, which destroyed his chances to defend his title - he won one of the remaining 4 rounds and finished on podium in other 3,3rd place in final standings for him. J.A.Katila finished 4th in standings scoring 4 top 5 finishes,5th in the standings was Trespasser (1 win and 1 second place finish) who also clinched STARL Rookie of the Year title.

STARL 2020 Oval Trophy winner: RGˆRony
The new small award was included due 2 of the rounds featuring an oval track - 1st round with 600m dirt oval and 4th round with 500m triangle shaped paved oval. Rony finished 4th and 3rd in these rounds and scored 3 points more than T.Soini, who was the only other driver able to score points in both oval rounds.

STARL 2020 Teams Champions: Race Green Autosports
With good help of his teammates the new series champion led RGA to title defence - 1 win and 5 other podium finishes were enough to edge out the title over World Class Lions by 5 points. Team Rock Racing took the final step on teams standings podium.

STARL 2020 Nations Cup winners: Finland
Also the other non-individual title was defended by previous champion - Finland started it since round 1 by taking the lead and never gave up in,as they claimed the Nations Cup before final round. A sole effort from series champion put Latvia in 2nd place, another north european country Lithuania is 3rd.

2nd season of this league has been concluded and it's no secret it was somewhat dissapointing one for both organisation and participants, who lacked competition. With optimistic thoughts STARL might return for it's 3rd season, but there are few ideas for some changes - the nominal distance of races will be shortened from 150km to 100,while track selection will return to more basic and standard. Also Dusty 300 will be ditched,as it does not attract enough competition to make it more interesting. Organisation is open to any other suggestions to improve the experience of racing in STARL.

Race Green Events thanks all participants and wishes much success in all other leagues and events they are taking part. Our current plans include to keep up same stuff as we're did before - VERL will return in september for it's 6th season (more details to be worked out while provisional dates are entered in calendar),after which the 10th edition of X-mas derby This is Crashmaaas !!! will follow, currently seems like it will return once again in the same old bullring despite saying good byes to it twice. Also AWS should return for it's decade season, while the usual tuesday stuff RTFR and RTFR XL will carry on as long as it's possible and makes sense.
