Race Green 400km of Westhill - information and discussions

After successful challenge last year,Race Green Events will now offer one step higher challenge - race distance has been extended by 100 kilometers and track has received additional turns to make it even more demanding. To offer more variety, another 2 cars have been added to the lineup and with help of restrictions leveled out to have similar performance as the original TBO class trio - FZ5 will be the heaviest in field, but also the most powerful, while the wide tyres will have it's own adwantage. RAC might lack power besides rivals, but due low weight will make some time on turns, while engine being on powered wheels will help with traction. Ecorace without pitstops will not be possible now (at least not with decent race pace) as the cars will require almost 2 full tanks of fuel, while tyre durability for whole race is highly questionable.

Westschleife has received 5 additional sections, making it even twistier - a total of 66 turns (depends on definition of a turn) are featured in the 13.39 kilometer circuit. Best laptimes should be below 8 minutes, meaning the 400 kilometer race distance should be completed barely within 4 hours. Entries just like last year will be allowed to have 1-3 drivers, while the most effective way should be to have 2 drivers sharing the car - running alone it will be a major challenge to both physical and mental stamina.

Timetable:
Sunday,2nd May
15:15 UTC / 17:15 CET - 60 minutes open track qualifying
16:30 UTC / 18:30 CET - race start for the 30 laps race
* the shown CET time is current (summer) time - if not residing in CET time zone, always refer to UTC for correct time zone convertion!

Qualifying:

Due the track length an outlap is very long and takes more than 1/4 of the qualifying time - all the drivers should be patient and leave large gaps (preferably even out of visibility range) to ensure a clean hotlap! Organization is encouraging to drive multiple hotlaps back to back as it will ensure more completed hotlaps.
Multiple driver entries are allowed to qualify only with 1 driver! The driver who qualified the entry must complete a minimum of full 10% of entry's total distance during the race!

Race:
Race will feature a different start - cars will be placed on grid in single line with 15 meters space between them to ensure lower probability of early incidents. Every entry is expected to be familiar with pitlane entry and exit for error free pitstops.

Track limits:
Due the low average width of the course it is important to point out about track limits - track is defined by paved surface (asphalt/tarmac/cobblestones) and 2 wheels have to be on it at all times! Drivers may not cut corners over grass and also may not run wide on grass when exiting turns with more than 2 wheels. If such event happens due a mistake, driver has to lift off throttle to make sure no advantage is gained. Fastest laps in both sessions will be checked for any violations while other drivers might be randomly checked during whole race. Best way to avoid any penalties is to stay fair!
Exceptions - there are 2 places where drivers are allowed shortly cut over grass:
x In the S-turn exiting big parking lot in the far end of area - cutting permitted until (without touching) bales on the inside of each turn.
x In the narrow tight hairpin after 3rd split (with concrete road extension on outside) - cutting permitted until (without touching) posts on the inside of turn.
Posts have been placed all over the circuit to help orientate, even if they have no legal use,not hitting them should mean a clean lap.

Cars and restrictions:
To level out performance of all 3 TBO class cars and both available LRF class cars, some have been restricted. Each car has it's advantages and disadvantages, but overall deemed to have relatively equal performance after our limited testing. Restrictions for this year's event are:
  • FXO - 4% voluntary air restriction
  • FZ5 - 17% voluntary air restriction
  • RAC - 27% voluntary air restriction
  • RB4 - 1% voluntary air restriction
  • XRT - default
It is advised to test all 5 cars before signing up to decide the best car for your or your team's performance!
In server Airio monitors the restrictions and only the specified cars are allowed. To see best laps set in server with custom cars, type !top FXW/FZW/RAW/RBW or !top W4K for all 5 cars combined.

Other info:
Blue flag behaviour - due long lap very rarely such occasion might happen. Even if the usual Race Green Events' rule of "you may not block lapping car's passing manouvre" is used also here,it is advised to try not to stay ahead of lapping car and let by in safe location before lapping pass is needed. Lapping cars still have to be very patient, wait for safe opportunity to lap and not force a pass in narrow turns.

Basic racing rules - we'll use as always basic rules of clean racing and judge incidents with common sense. It is advised to avoid any contacts in any situation to ensure clean and fair racing.

Rejoins - in case of time out, rolled or undrivable car it is permitted to rejoin the race. To ensure better visibility of race positions, the rejoined entry will receive back the completed laps as soon as possible - race administration will check the replay during race. If the timeout or telepit has happened before reaching 1st split of a lap,one lap will be deducted to avoid possible misuse!

Postrace action - after the distance has been completed,3 highest finishing cars are asked to take a place on a podium for post race media, located between tribunes. It can be accessed when followed the track - after the roundabout section on the left side of the straight. After top3 have taken their positions and photos are made, all other competitors also may join the area besides podium for further photo sessions.

Chatting - is limited during the race session. Allowed are short communications like appologies, thanking for letting by or between drivers of same entry when deciding when to pit and make driver swap, allthough it is encouraged to use external voice chat application (Discord,Teamspeak, phone call or whatever suits best). Race Green Events can offer a private voice channel in it's discord server if needed.
Unneccesary conversations will receive warning first and if not stopped - entry will receive drive-through penalty.
Not competing observers may not use chat at all!

Skins - specific car skins are not required in this race, allthough it is suggested to have a skin that displays entry number on car's side. Also skins must fullfill lfsworld skin upload requirements and drivers may not use skins they don't have rights to use - like private skins of others or other teamskins.

Name format - entry number (may not be colored black or dark blue) required in front of your registered name, number and name must be seperated by a space.

Event server - server is online,is set in practice mode and has an Airio for laptime tracking. Airio can spectate connections with very high and unstable ping for safety reasons (stable connections even from Australia should not be affected). Server will be open for public use until race weekend. For private practice feel free to use the attached layout.

Event will be held using the latest stable version of LFS (currently 0.6V).

All information here can be changed,if so,notification will be posted about changes.

!!! ATTENTION !!!

To avoid collision with F1 race,it has been decided to extend qualifying length by 30 minutes and move race start 30 minutes later. It is required to set at least one timed lap during qualifying session to qualify for the race,so you can join the qualifying session later as long as you are able to set a laptime (please calculate in 8.5 minutes outlap).
Server is now passworded and info has been sent to all entries!

New entries will receive the info eventually during the weekend! Signups deadline is sunday 15:00 UTC!

Incomplete entries should edit their signups before deadline!

Official results

On 2nd may Race Green Events hosted it's longest race - despite race distance being "just" 400 kilometers, the average speed on this track is so low to make the race over 4 hours long. This year a total of 5 different cars were up for choice, unfortunatelly just 3 of those were actually used during official event sessions, but all 3 of them were represented on podium. Most popular was XRT again with 4 entries,FZ5 had 2 entries,RAC just one. 2 RB4s were signed up,but never arived, while last year's winning car FXO wasn't even signed up. Of course with 9 signups and 7 actual competitors the interest of this event was dissapointing, but the bigger half of field took the challenge and finished the enduring race.

Interestingly the only 2 returning entries finished in 2 highest positions - last year's 8th position in results FERAT Motors celebrated victory this year. Michal led exactly 2/3 of racelaps, including last 12 in row and was rather controlling the pace later in the race to not give competition any chances. Last year's 6th place finisher switched cars from XRT to RAC in favour for a lighter car,but found out it's biggest disadvantage right at the start - Rony was overtaken by Michal soon after green lights on power difference and had to chase for the whole race, leading 2 laps only on pitstops strategy difference - 2nd place this year. Other organizing team's entry finished 3rd and as best event's rookie - Redbot selected the heavyweight FZ5 and during late phase of the race posted fastest lap between finishers, but had to find out higher weights disadvantage lap before half distance. Redbot blew a rear tyre on 1st sector of 15th lap and had to limp to pitlane for almost 12 kilometers, blewing the other rear tyre on the last kilometer. He carried on and passed the only competition for him left and secured 3rd place finish.
Other newcomers Father&Sons Motorsport were the remaining 4th entry to cross the finish line after chequered flag, but unfortunatelly already a lap down - the only actually competing multi driver entry deffinitelly raced for fun and experience as they had no actual competition after retirement of 2 entries during the first 3 laps. The entry of Roda Presa qualified on pole position and beat the absolute lap record during the race, but Pedro retired after leading 8 laps.

After success of last year there were many ideas and concepts for future event developement, but this year's lack of interest only left question marks over event's future. We'll deffinitelly start with proper interest check next year before planning the actual Race Green 500km of Westhill.

Race Green Events thanks all drivers for participation and few other guys behind the scenes for their input and efforts. As always everyone is welcome to share their experience from the event, either in form of text, pictures or videos! Also (even if that rarely happens) - we're awaiting winner's speach!
