VERL 2021 - Round 1
V8 Racing League 2021
Round 1

Monday,6th September
17:30 UTC / 19:30 CET / 20:30 EET

Once again container carriers and forklifts have vacated the area and the Container Sprint circuit has been set up at Blackwood's container storage field,so the racers can start the 7th season of Race Green Events' fastest yearly series V8 Racing League! Last season brough us the first ever returning champion, now the suspence is high in expectations what the series will bring this year. Biggest change is the move of racing to another day - monday is the raceday for VERL this year, rest - same 200 kilometers nominal distance, same car, same goal - 3 championships and 1 additional award for the best newcomer.

The Container Sprint track has been remeasured using newer tools and we found out that race requires more laps to reach the nominal race distance,so in this years edition we'll race 80 laps (3 more than in previous VERL visit to this circuit in 2017) - last time round there were already few tyre failures,so additional lapcount will just make the race more challenging, while previous experience might help to judge the situation better.

Round info:
Track: BL Container Sprint (BL4X)
Laps: 80
Previous winners: GenR uNite (2018), Botsi (2017)

Coincidentally the 2021 season started with same attendance number as the previous season - 17,but despite much harder course the atrition rate was much lower, only 4 drivers retired before reaching the required 2/3 distance to be classified as points scorers. The difficult track had an other toll - most of the drivers required pitstop to complete their race.

Despite plenty position changes the top5 of this race finished in same order as qualified with a "small" difference of 2nd/4th position switch. Gábor was the fastest qualifying and in race had no real competition - he did not led only handful of laps early in race and after his pitstop, setting fastest lap of the race on his way to 1st VERL race win and lead in series. Rony was the only one of top5 not needing pitstop on his stability based race and finished 2nd. Unite had a troublesome first quarter of the race and needed to pit for repairs, but climbed back up in order during rest of the race to take the final step of the podium.

As always there is no difference in positions between 1st round results and standings after 1st round, only points gaps are variating - Gábor is 5 points ahead of Rony,Unite another 3 behind. However the battle for the Rookie of the Year award is intriguing now - Zesty leads Thehemuli by 1 point,Kid by 2 points.

Defending champions S1dus took 1st and 3rd place finishes in the opening round and secured big lead right at the start of the season - they're 14 points ahead of MRc,who fielded 1/3 of the grid in this round,3rd is RGA just 1 point behind 2nd place. From last year's domination of Finland was not much left in this round, but the defending champions still took the lead of standings by 4 points over Hungary,Latvia is 3rd another 5 points behind.

One round complete, another 4 to go and next one is the one with tightest surroundings - the concrete and armco canyon of South City. The nicely round number of 50 laps is the race distance for next round around the longest standard configuration of South City, run in reversed direction.
