Yes, its that time of year again and I've started shopping around for insurance and a possible new car. In doing so "Direct Choice" keeps popping up, with significantly lower quotes than everyone else (although with a higher excess). Has anyone heard of them? Do they have a good or bad reputation? Does anyone have any experience with them?!

All pretty much of a muchness IMO, all CROOKS, will all try to wriggle out of any claim, just go for the cheapest as its a neccesary evil...., IMO insurance is legalized robbery.

Can say that again. Our car and trailer were written off by some reckless driver. She managed to rip her front wheel clean off and roll her car on a 30mph speed limit zone. She said to the police she didn't see what she hit so with that against her she was charged so you'd think insurance claims would be a piece of cake from there.

Well so far the insurance company tried to rip us offering us £900 for our Passat. My Dad being an ex-mechanic told them where to stick it and looked up quotes. They raised it to £1000 and we still couldn't see where that figure was coming from. When my Dad phones the woman at the call centre claimed to be on a website where we could buy a Passat of the same model for a £1000 but refused to give us the web address under the data protection act Eventually managed to get £1500.

Still yet to see money for the trailer which is worth more than the car and this is about 2-3 months after the accident.

I *was* with Admiral until my car got written off, the other driver was cautioned and the claim was uncontested, I got a courtesy car for 1 week and a cheque to replace my car 5 months later. I was awarded about 1/4 of the value of my car, and that was after some serious haggling. I'm now with First Alternative, but i've not made a claim so have no idea what they are like.

So there you go Karl, just go for the cheapest and FFS don't have an accident
