In this round 12 drivers attended qualifying, but one of them missed out the 112% barrier by a split second, but we still had a 12 car grid for the 4th round of this season - series leader used the given right to start without qualifying. There was a lot of position swapping early in the race, but later on things settled in and there were not too big changes between qualifying results and race results.
But the biggest and most important position change was between both front row starters - Gábor qualified 2nd,chased the polesitter over 17 laps until he could use rival's mistake to slip in race lead, which he extended to 23 seconds over the remainder of the race. That was Gábor's 3rd win of the season, securing already the winningest driver's honor. Fatass was the only one to beat the 1:20 laptime mark in qualifying, earning the 1st point of the evening, but had a little slip in race that cost him the lead - he had to settle in for 2nd place finish. Ohnifus joined the VERL for the 1st time in this evening and started with a podium finish right away - he had a fair amount of position advances to get back to his 3rd position after falling down the order in 1st lap.
Standings leader started last due missed qualifying,so he might had a little disadvantage, but still Gábor earned his way back to top of the standings with a race win - he's now 5 points in front of Unite, meaning that 2nd place finish in final round grants him VERL 2021 title without caring about situation of his rival. Unite however has to keep an eye on his rival while delivering his top performance - collecting all 22 points alone is not enough. Besides them, there are another 2 theoretical title candidates - Fatass is 3rd in table with 10 points gap to leader,he requires some bad luck to rivals while being on top of his game,Rony is 4th with 14 points gap and is considered as outsider for title.
Even tighter situation is in the race for top rookie award - the new leader in this chart is Thehemuli, who is 1 point ahead of rather seasoned racer Kid,who's still a VERL newcomer. Doni might also want to get involved in this fight, while also Lorenzo is well within striking distance.
But both non-individual titles have been already secured before final round - Team S1dus has enough points lead to clinch the title for 2nd year in row, while Fragmasters blasted by RGA for 2nd place - unless something drastic happens, that might be the podium order also after final round. Finland's dominance in the VERL has been confirmed once again - for the 2nd year in row and 6th time overall the northern nation takes the award. Hungary is 2nd with healthy lead over single driver nation Latvia, who's 3rd position is in danger from Czechia.
Final round will be a return of the most attended race of previous season - Aston Classic Challenge will be run in Aston's quite short Club configuration which is almost like a very deformed oval with hairpins in both ends. 65 laps are required to complete the nominal 200km distance, which means drivers have to take care of 65 quite difficult braking zones, where the front right tyre tends to stop rotation and grind flat spots in it's round shape.
