Right, im just showing a friend LFS, whenever he plays online (and only online) the game has a ~1/5 of a second stutter, which makes it damn hard to show him a good S2 race! i remember a topic like this before, but i couldnt find it, and i assume that its not hit pc being slow as it only happens on multiplayer, Single Player + Ai works fine

Specs:
3400 Sempron
6200 nVidia 256 Mb card (i know...)
1 Gb RAM (unknown make, probably Team or Generic)
Cheap-o Asus mobo

I see that from time to time at random intervals, but it happens off line mostly. I think it has something to do with another app, like my email program doing something that sucks up cycle times. It is not lag, but stuttering. Make sure that he doesn't have some process running all the time that decides to kick in while LFS is running. I am thinking about something like the SETI program or instant messenger or virus software.

nope, he had noting else running, i installed AVG and some firewall on it and it was exactly the same

Can it be a controller issue? Does he have an USB modem or a large amount of other USB devices plugged in?

Hi [ I am the one with the problem ]. Well, i have lots of problems but more specifically, the lfs-locks-up-problem.

I have a usb mouse, usb keyboard, usb joystick and usually my mp3 player external harddrive plugged in. oh, and i don't have a usb modem.

So how do you connect to the internet ?

ADSL/Cable? via a router(ethernet patch cable or USB connection)? or wireless?

Who is you ISP and do they restrict your bandwith or maybe block some ports ?

does this happen on all servers you have tried?

seeing as he's LFSing atm i'll answer

Wireless (i know), however he also gets this over wired connection, and originally the pc was a few feet from the router, however now further away

Tiscali - no cap BUT a policy of mass downloading at night is asked (read, if you do to much they email asking you to cut back FIRST), uunsure of ports

PS - this isnt lag (wrong title i know!), its the whole game freezing
