LFS not loading on computer, but working on older computer
Hey, im trying to load LFS U on my Dell Dimension 8250 with

Windows XP SP2
1GB RAM
NVIDIA 64mb card w/ DVI input
2.4 Ghz Processor

and it gets to the LFS logo loading screen, nothing is showing on the bottom left, and only about 5% of the time, LFS loads

But on my 1998 Dell Dimension XPS T500 with

500 Mhz Processor
256 MB RAM
NVidia GeoForce4 MX 420 64mb video card
Windows XP SP2

It loads perfectly on my old dell, running at about 8-20 fps (hey what do u expect) but with my newer dell, it never loads at all, i tried reinstalling it numerous times (10-12).

its so confusing i need help

Open the deb.log file in your LFS directory with a text editor after it fails to load. The last lines tell you what LFS was trying to do at that point.
got good drivers for your nVidia? is it integratet with mainboard? [LFS can got problems with this:/]

maybe some other software for your hardwere is making this...

Have you got some problems with other games/apps?
well its an internal video card, i have the latest drivers. but i need to check the deb.log file, as soon as my dad gets off the comptuer, which is in about 10 hours (literally)

delete the "card_cfg" and edit the "screen info"-line in the "cfg"-file. Set it to a hertz and resolution your laptop can manage and i think it should work.

U can also delete the cfg-file itself ,but then u lose all your ingame settings
i have a desktop, not a laptop (i wish). but the only hertz that my Vid Card supports is 60 Hz, and the game is already set at that
Hmmm, new PC, and Your video card supports only 60hz !?? i beleave in this when you say me that the monitor has the 60Hz max with resolution you want to play with, but not the card:/..they can even go 200 or more Hz [even the Voodoo II in 800x600 mode]

if You say that 60hz is max, maybe you have wrong software? :/
----------------
[EDIT]

Did you unpack new copy of LFS or just copy it from your old PC??
i got a new pack from the LFS site and downloaded it to the newer computer

the video card can support up to around 2500x1700 or sumthin around there, its a really good card, but at 1280x1024, it does 60

at 1024x768 it handles up to 75hz

but on the older computer, it was default at 800x600, then i upped it to 1024x768, it handled up to 100-some hertz, but its staying at 1280x1024, which does only 60 hertz

btw- the vid card on the older computer doesnt do DVI, and it doesnt have a fan, only heatsink

on the newer computer, the vid card has DVI suport and a fan
Argh i'm not thinking right :P, the display refresh is so low becouse you have such monitor that can handle only 60Hz , sory for that
yea my monitor supports 1280x1024 MAX at 60 Hz
Open cfg.txt in the main LFS dir into notepad or something, and find line Start Windowed 0 and change the 0 to a 1. If you can't find it, add it.

That should rule out any resolution/Hz incompatibilities.

Is any part of your PC overclocked?
Do you have any problems with other games (other than minesweep etc)?
Have you run the DirectX tests? start->run->dxdiag
You should not put your Screen Refresh rate (Hertz) higher then 80. I keep mine around 70-75. Just because the higher you go the more strain is on the monitor so then it will not last as long etc etc. So putting it at 100hertz is not very good for the monitor.

As for your problem, Download the lastest drivers for your video card from the Nvidia website. Also reinstall/update Direct X. You can also try Windows Updates.

Ciao
yea, all it says is that "start Windowed 1"

And i cant ovoerclock this cause its a DELL, it still heats up alot at 0% CPU Usage, (lol)

But No, I dont have problems playing other games, i play DoD and stuff on this, it runs at 60 fps all the time, sometimes 70 at 1024x768

Yea, and i did the diagnostic thingy, i got an nVidia Quadro4 700 XGL with 64 mb total memory, and a screen reso. currently at 1024x768 at 75 hertz

monitor is a 1702FP with DVI

and heres my computer stats on the diagnostics

OS: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600)
System Model: Dell Dimension 8250
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.40Ghz
Memory: 1022Mb RAM

and this might be the problem for everything

"The file system.dll is missing!"
"You should reinstall DirectX to get the latest version."

yea m8 get new Direct X and WTF no system.dll

Sorry buddy cant help you but good luck... ur missing out on so much :P:P:P
yea i put on the DirectX 9.0c (i had it b4), and it had all the necessary dll's in there, but this time, the LFS window doesnt even popup, i click on it, and zippo

it only works on my Dell XPS 500mhz Pentium 3 p.o.s, running from 6-20 fps
deb.log
My deb.log says this

LFS : 0.5Q
timer resolution 1 ms
read config
get command line
preinit d3d
number of adapters : 1
adapter 0 - valid modes : 26

it wont help (well, it might!), but try patch U, then U20

whats u20?
#21 - Jakg
Quote from Krannyman92 :whats u20?

a test patch, its compatible with S/T/U, but according to Scawen its "the most stable version of LFS ever", think of it as a beta patch
hahahaha sweet, im downloading all the updates n'stuff, ill post back to see what it did
AGHHHHh it still doesnt work!!!!
did u delete the card.cfg?
Else LFS will think u still use the same GPU and load wrong hardwaresettings.
I had the same when switching from a 9800pro to a 6600gt and deleteing the card.cfg did the trick.
yea, i just did, but still no avail
