AWS 2022 - Round 4
All-wheel-drive Winter Series 2022
Round 4

Monday,31st January
18:30 UTC / 19:30 CET / 20:30 EET

The middle round of the series brings us the fastest racing of AWS - the fast circling around Kyoto's 3 kilometer oval. As always this is the race where you don't want to be alone as your rivals will turn into allies at least until the fight for positions in finish will start, which usually happens in last lap. Until then it's all about speed and overall pace - the better the cooperation with others works, the faster you go!

As always in RGE's oval events there will be hotlap qualifying where drivers will be alone on track. The running order of qualifying will be decided from Drivers Championship standings - lowest placed drivers will start qualifying while standings leader will take his run last. Everyone will have to run 3 laps - outlap and 2 timed hotlaps, after which driver should spectate, only fastest lap counts of course. 2nd timed lap is optional - theoretically cars are faster in 2nd lap,but in case of a mistake, driver can spectate without finishing 2nd timed lap.

As usual,to avoid many questions,Race Green Events' statement about bumpdrafting:
"With closed wheels cars it is not forbidden, but in case of any reported incidents it will be treated as intentional contact,so everyone has to make sure that he knows what he is doing!"

3rd round kinda broke the intrigue in fight for championship, but nothing is decided yet - when traveling in speeds just below 300km/h,one fluke can throw anyone out of high points scoring positions - focus will be required through full 200 kilometers distance! As a middle round of 7 rounds, this will start to rule out drivers from potential championship chances.

The fastest race of the season was also the closest - no other race will have rivals around you this close for most or even whole race. As always drivers grouped up as a single car is slower that multiple cars, some went for the ricky bumpdrafting, some opted for the safer slingshot passing - eventually 2 leader pairs lost their advantage due unclean bumpdrafting contacts and the racewin was practically decided due few lost packets between server and clients.

Both top2 finishers qualified on front row,but the order was changed - 2-time Winter 200 polesitter Rony qualified just 2nd this year and at one point of the race was few seconds behind leading duo,but eventually he with some help returned to lead and on 1st turn of final lap a small lag decided the faith of win,so series creator finally could win a race in AWS. Polesitter Unite spent most of the race closer to the lead and paired up with winner for last phase, but one unlucky nudge took him out of contest for the race win - the finn could just repeat his league's personal best finishing position 2nd. Doni had much more trouble during the race as he only very late in the race could race in podium position - he could hold up a previous winner of this round and also previous series champion for 3rd lace finish,Sobis however set the fastest lap of the race on lap 8.

Standings leader was around lead of the field for whole race until his connection was starting to give up,eventually getting removed from race for safety reasons - he still keeps the lead in standings, but his advantage has been reduced to 13 points and his closest rival is now Unite. Doni has climbed up to 3rd position in standings with 16 points gap to leader. The 2nd place finish promoted Unite to lead of FXR Master standings after 2 rounds of 3,his closest rival is Doni, who is 6 points behind. This was also 1st of 2 rounds for Oval Trophy - of course positions are same as finishing positions of the round - Rony is 1st with 2 points advantage over Unite.

With 5th place finish Thehemuli has taken another big step towards Rookie of the Year award,he's now already 27 points ahead of Silva.

LLM still leads the teams standings, but their lead has been cut to 10 points now - RGA overtook S1dus for 2nd place, the latter is now 19 points behind lead. Also nations standings got some intrigue spark back - Lithuania's lead has been reduced to 12 points over Finland. No other country seems to be able to get involved for win in Nations cup this year,as 3rd place Latvia is already 81 points behind lead.

Round 5 will decide the fate of 1st small individual award - it's the 2nd of 2 rounds for Megawatt award, presented to best driver in races with electrically powered cars. The Blackwood RXGP usually has been held with FXR using slick tyres as other tyres were not available yet back then, this year we'll switch to more powerful XF eGTR featuring almost 50 "horses" more, but it's energy source gets exhausted much quicker. It will be advised to use the current stable patch for this race as it features much faster battery recharge, while the possibility to move during pitstop will be ruled out by a new specific rule for this round.
