AWS 2022 - Round 6
All-wheel-drive Winter Series 2022
Round 6

Monday,28th February
18:30 UTC / 19:30 CET / 20:30 EET

The penultimate round of 2022 AWS brings us to the sunny island of Jamaica, where a hot race awaits - RB4 is known for heating up it's tyres under load and there will be plenty of load in this 7.57 kilometer long circuit, featuring most sections of Fern Bay. What's a bit weird for this configuration - despite being classified as road course, there are 3 sections that are not paved, including one hairpin. But the series does carry the slippery road road sign in it's logo for a reason - drivers have to be ready to tackle all the possible conditions through out the season.

With just 2 rounds left current series leader can theoretically wrap up his title, but nothing is in books yet as few glitches here and there might do the opposite - 18 point lead with 22 points per round possible is a good advantage, but only if taken good care. Besides that this will be 2nd of 2 rounds in race for RB4 Master award, while results in this round will play a big role in outcome of both teams and nations standings.

The usual tendency of attendance drop towards season end starts to get more distinctive also here - the penultimate round of 2022 season was attended by 12 cars (plus one joined in the middle of the race and thought he can just jump into action right away). Longest track of the season brought new challenge - unpaved track sections in round that is considered as road course round. But AWS drivers are used to slippery road conditions and mastered those without complaining - all 12 starters crossed the finish line after completing full 11 laps distance.

Standings leader V.Laguckas was lazy during qualifying and used his rights to start the race without setting laptime in qualifying session (top10 of current standings may do so) - that did not stop him from winning the race as he practiced well before round, setting track record in pre-race practice. Despite starting from pole position, also Unite had to concede to charging lithuanian and finished 8 seconds behind him after leading first 7 laps. 3rd was Fatal, who also lost just 1 position between green and chequered.

With this win V.Laguckas practically secured AWS drivers champion title - he's currently 21 points ahead of the only title challenger Unite with 22 points available in one round. That means V.Laguckas has to score just a single point in season finale to clinch the title as with 3 wins he has advantage in any tied points scenario - scoring pole position in final round is already enough, other minimalistic option is to complete full 50% of the race. 2nd place howerer is anything else than secured - just 3 points behind Unite is Fatal, with another 2 drivers within realistic striking range.

With 2 wins in 2 rounds there are no doubts about the last RB4 Master award winner - V.Laguckas left no chances for competition,Unite is 2nd 10 points behind. Interesting situation evolved for 3rd place - it's a 4-way points tie, decided by best finishing position in favour of Fatal.

Thehemuli now has clinched the Rookie of the Year award - Lorenzo is 2nd 38 points behind with just 22 available.

LLM increased their lead in teams standings - they're 27 points ahead of only possible challenger RGE,S1dus is 3rd,already 50 points behind leader. It's rather unlikely that there will be changes in top3 positions, but with lack of activity or big failures something still possible. Nations Cup is now heated up most - Finland reduced the gap to 10 points and,if Lithuania performs weakly, could still take over the title,no other countries are competitive for this awart this season.

Season finale as always will be available for drivers who have scored at least 1 point towards drivers championship - a total of 29 drivers have qualified for the 120 laps challenge on the 600 meters short dirt oval. The season finale will decide the fate of a total of 6 titles, including the most important one - Drivers Champion's title, while 3 small individual awards will be decided too. FXR now has the right tyres available,so it will be one fast circling - race pace will be just short of 3 laps per minute! Dizzyness alert?
