TEAM MOPAR’S MOLLER OF RACEDECK® RACING SETS LAND SPEED RECORD AT SALT FLATS EVENT

Center Line, Mich. – Team Mopar’s Jorgen Moller, member of the prestigious Bonneville 200 mph Club, set his 5th career land speed record last week in a production Mopar Dodge SRT4 Car at the Bonneville Salt Flats. The record-breaking average was set at 221 mph on the five-mile course, and established the Dodge SRT4 as the fastest four-cylinder production car in the world.

"It is amazing how well the car performed at over 220 mph when you consider that the body, transmission and engine block are exactly the same as the (street version) SRT4," said Moller. "We’ve got to hand it to the Dodge engineers for building such a great performance car. The 2.4L SRT4 motor is a fantastic platform to work from, and we have been able to create reliable 700–800 horsepower that survives the long five-mile runs at full power on gas,” Moller said.

Mopar is no stranger to the SRT4 platform, or the Bonneville Speedweeks event. The brand produces upgrade kits for the four-cylinder cars, as well as an entire line of accessory parts. Mopar is pleased with Moller and Racedeck® Racing’s efforts in the Bonneville Salt Flats Speedweeks.

“Mopar is proud to work in conjunction with Moller and the Racedeck® Racing team as they achieve this honor,” said Kevin Miller, Senior Manager, Mopar Brand, Performance and Motorsports. “The race teams and drivers that compete under the Mopar banner are among the best in the business and we’re pleased to be a part of this effort.”

Moller’s Dodge SRT4 competed in the PS/F class (2.1 to 3.0 liter motor – production Supercharged /Turbo). This class showcases vehicles that compete with factory bodies and transmissions. The powerplant must be of the same configuration as the vehicle’s factory production settings. Vehicles must also be gas compatible.

Moller is a life member of the Bonneville 200 MPH club, has set over 10 land speed records and currently holds five existing records. He also has a Dodge SRT4-powered 1932 roadster in the F classes where he set a record in the Blown Street Roadster class at over 200 mph, making it The Fastest 4 cylinder Street Roadster on the Planet. Moller is the CEO and owner of Snap Lock Industries, the manufacturer of RACEDEDCK® Garage Floors and SnapSports®.

haha..that's just awsome!
those hubcaps PWN!!!!
Hehe somehow I don't think they are hubcaps =P The crazy thing is how much horsepower they made with the engine on race fuel, thats crazy! 700-800HP out of a 2.4 litre 4 cylinder
You Love those SRTs don't you

My first pathetic attempt at skinning... Tried screwing around with it before but never had an actual idea so they just fizzled. Here's my RaceDeck RB4

Woohoo -- finally a production car that might have actually needed its rear wing!
Quote from lalathegreat :You Love those SRTs don't you

Yes I do =) The power curves are amazing and which other production FWD car will do sub 14 second 1/4 mile times factory and with the ACR package I have not felt a better car that sticks to the road like this production car for the price =)

The newest version of the SRT-4 has 300HP factory out of a 4 cylinder! Dodge has had thoughts of making this AWD but for this year that idea has been tabled...

Skin is coming along but needs some work yet =P
Great, 300hp on a FWD. Talk about waste of power, rubber and time.
Sub 14 second 1/4 mile times, I have not seen specific performance data but it should be compairable to the old SRT-4. FWD's with this amount of power are perfectly drivable, you just have to be used to how they handle and not chicken out when they go tight under too much power coming out of a turn, with just the right amount of power you get perfect rotation.
i have 2 friends with SRTs the 300hp is impresive but its turbo charged. there very torquey cause of the long stroke they have. only problem i have with them is the pancake redline which is 6500

True, the redline is low and it is turbo charged, but they made the turbo's really small and they spool very fast up to the max of 18PSI with the stage 2 kit which puts them at over 300HP for the old SRT-4, with that you get Boost hold which holds the boost for a second(pumps gas into the combustion chamber but prevents the the spark so when the fuel hits the exhaust manifold the resulting explosion keeps the heat up to keep turbo spooling) so you can shift without losing boost. The turbo start pumping air in at 1700 RPM's at a linear rate until 2300 when it reaches its max boost. With this you get over 3000 RPM's to make your fun happen without waiting until 4-5k to be able to do anything. The engines are extremly torquie making them tons of fun to drive in any RPM without having to shift.
The only thing is it's still a turbo and you still get turbo lag, but then that gives you an advantage for daily driving giving you a much more drivable car in traffic and easier on fuel with the car getting 30MPG on the highway and 26 city driving. This is with the old SRT-4 and the new SRT-4 Caliber I am not totally certian on what options are available but these make 300WHP factory and not the 230WHP made by the previous SRT-4 Neon Making them the most powerful FWD cars on the market, not to mention the fastest. Ohh did I mention they sold for just under 20k USD? You could pick up an 03 SRT-4 (doesn't have LSD) for 10-14k giving you a car that is ready to handle 350WHP plus.
Quote from jtr99 :Woohoo -- finally a production car that might have actually needed its rear wing!

But isn't a wing supposed to put downforce over the driven wheels? IF this is FWD and the wing is not at the front .... and the story is a bit confusing for me. 220 plus MPH from a SRT-4 that's great!

But reading on further, it wasn't a production ST-4 but a totally specialist reworked motor that powered it, maybe I'm just a dill, but if ya say to me that a certain 4 cyl car type, (for my part of the world a Toyota Corolla or Hyundai Excel etc) had done 220 mph ( pretty impossible I know!)

I'd initially relate that to a showroom production car, not a totally fullhouse balanced , blueprinted specialist purpose built vehicle

so maybe if the poster had said,

"Specially prepared and highly modified SRT-4 bodied car does 220 mph" it'd be more accurate

It's like me saying "Holden or Ford V8 supercar acheives 300 kph on M1 motorway" ( V8 supercars have a Holden or Ford body sitting on top of a specially prepared race car bearing little resemblance to a stock original Holden or Ford )

While I'm not arguing that this speed and being able to work a base engine to achieve this huge horsepower is a great achievement, it's the deliberate ambiguity of the post title that says the poster is a total addict of this type of vehicle and wants to sensationalise the achievement

True they worded it wrong, I just copied from a post that was posted on another forum by the group that did the run. In the rules it's considered a production car because the stock body, driveline(minus final drive) and chassis(suspension was modified to handle the high speeds) were orginal, Under a fully stock run the car will hit 155MPH with the rev limiter bouncing.

The spoiler doesn't just provide downforce for the rear it helps stablize the rear end from bouncing and hopping around keeping the car strait under high speeds.

Yea, the new caliber srt-4 will have 300whp, but seeing as it's heavier than the neon srt-4, it will run the 1/4 in about the same time.

The reason why the base model caliber is AWD and the srt-4 version isn't, is because the AWD system that dodge designed for it will not handle the 300hp. I have not heard of any plans of making a beefier awd system either, so i think they are going to stick with the FWD. Which, in my opinion, isn't bad at all once you throw some slicks or DR's on it.

No FWD isn't that bad for drag racing, like anything you have to know how to do it, there are FWD's running 7's, including an SRT-4.
I have not seen data on 1/4 mile but I heard that the 0-60 will be slower but the 1/4 will be faster than the previous SRT-4. The Caliber is a bit heavier weighing in at 3100 which is too heavy in my eyes. I will stick with the neon =P Not sure if I like the styling yet on the caliber either, looks alot like a Focus with a Dodge front end on it and Dodge styling.
I've always wondered, does that car do corners aswell as straights? I mean.. i'ts still american car, but I doubt there is any loose leaf springs underneath.

We can do corners too.

yea, the ACR's are awsome in the corners..the regular version isn't too bad either.

Road America, turn 5. I have been there so many times I have the track memorized.

And 7-800 HP isnt that much out a 2.4 liter...GM is getting 1000+ HP from a 2.0 liter.

Yeah the ACR's take corners very well and puts a big grin on everyones face that rides with me =) The stock SRT-4 was ok but they went with a softer spring/shock/ARB rates making the car a bit sloppy but still decent.

Which car is that?
But... that car is running WIDE

Christopher can you point me to the specs on the SRT-4 that pulls 7 secs on the strip please, I wanna see what mods it has.

Also as I live in Australia and have had no real interest in the F&F type squeakmobiles till recently, what cars are the main competition for the SRT-4 types in the USA.

Cheers Shannon
Honestly for a production car you would have to go into the FWD/AWD markets to find anything competitable. Cars like the EVO, STi, Mustang GT, and GTO.

As for the FWD market the closest things you could come up with would be the new Civic Si and the GTi, but those are over a second slower than the SRT-4. They handle a little bit less but are fairly close.

He is running wide, this is Dodge's second year running the SRT-4. THe car behind him is the Championship leader and they have had many years of setu data to go though and had a distinct advantage when I watched the race. Robb Holland was just trying to drive the car too hard to keep the other driver behind him =) Edit: He's not really running wide on that corner, he is a little but not by much, that picture is decieving. The entrance is coming down a huge hill and thats a sharp 90 degree corner.

I don't know the specs on the SRT-4's that are running in the 7's. They are in the Pro NHRA ranks though so who knows what they have done to them. Streetable SRT-4's are in the 10's edging into the 9's. Most people that have mods done are running 10's and 11's. Those guys are running a big turbo kit(usually a 50 trim, sometimes a 60) intake, exhaust, cam, ECU, sometimes a bore, some are running Nitrus with the turbo, high flow head among other little mods. There are dyno's out there of people running over 600HP at the wheels, but most people are around the 450-550 range, ones that are into the modding. I bought the extended warrenty so mine will probably stay stock. Though I have heard of dealers giving warrenty work to cars with the Stage 3 turbo kit from Dodge that puts the HP at 355 at the wheels with racing fuel, from the factory these engines are designed to handle this amount of power and it's usually the transmission that goes, you do hear of a turbo being smoked from people not letting them cool off. (the ECU has 4 mappings stored via the factory aswell as a boost hold feature for keeping the boost up during a shift, also comes witha water sprayer that sprays water onto the intercooler =) http://www.mopar.com/street/products_srt4_stage3.htm
