When I join some races the cars will not go over 50mph, as if there is some sort of limiter?

Yes the faster Cars have a pit speed Limiter, you can turn it off by pressing L.

BTW: Here are all Keyboard commands and shortcuts.

Hmmm, I was using L for steering right (K for left)
Ive changed them to different keys and then pressing L does nothing, pressing Shift+L brings up 2 boxes showing suspension settings etc

Go to (Esc) Options > Controls > Buttons 2 there you can assign another key to the Limiter.

The limiter was not assigned to any key, so I couldnt turn it off lol

Ya but it saves his engine, who knows, maybe everyone will crash or
bust their engines and he'll go by them, very very slowly, and take the
win. Then again, maybe not.
