Firstly, let this be a warning to the rest of you when installing M$ Beta software!

after installing IE7 RC1 it has now decided to have a go at me for missing DLL's (making windows explorer unworkable). I luckily know how to fix it (look here, however the M$ steps dont work because the file doesn't exist, and grabbing the dll's doesnt work), and to do so i need to open the IE7 installer, now as i have been doing stuff i havent rebooted, but i did delete the redundant installer, which poses problem as the only way to get a copy of IE7 RC1 (and it's RC1 i need!) is by passing the WGA test, now my pc is perfectly legal, and WGA runs fine, but because for some reason it now asks to run the program that gives me the code for the website, and these files are missing, it refuses to run, which means i cant get it, leaving me in a catch 22

there are two other pc's in the house, one i have just found out has an illegal copy of xp , and the other has Vista, although it may still have XP on it.

EDIT - i know the article is for a different version of IE (IE7 Beta 3), however it sums up my symptoms perfectly (and before this i had Beta 3 on here)

If any kind LFSer could please send me the file somehow (MSN might work, as i can sign in on another pc, but i would rather reply, PM or similar), i would be eternally grateful!

another useful thread - the last pc DOES have XP on, i got IE7 off the site, and am about to follow the instructions now, but i might still need some help!

All the more reason to use Firefox isn't it?

I had a heck of a time u/g Beta 2 to Beta 3 (as a web designer) I need IE to show up faults in rendering and of course to implement css hacks to overcome the non standard microsoft way of doing things

Hope you get it sorted ok

when i went from Beta 2 to 3 i had similar problems, it appears to be fixed now (explorer is running), but ill see if i can run IE in a minute!

EDIT - I DON'T use IE for surfing, just for windows update, some IE-only sites and LFSW (Because for some reason the screen just fades if i try to log in with Firefox ), i only upgraded on the advice of M$!

please try to describe the problem in a detailed way in the bugreports section, its really a shame because lfsw is "supposed to be used" with FF
(not just because things are way faster there, its just.... firefox )

Logging in works fine here with Firefox. My guess is that you have some sort of adblock or scriptblock plugin installed that messes with the LFSW login. I had the same until I removed it

Btw, there is a plugin called IETab, which lets you run sites with the IE rendering engine. From what I've read it also worked with Windows updates.

grrrrr. it wont install until i reboot because something else wants to install on the reboot, and everytime i install it it does the same thing!

well luckily i started fooling around with the registry (trying to disable the "last accessed" thing to get a little boost in speed) and backed it up before hand, because i had to do a system restore, that requires IE, so didnt work, but i restored the Registry, and now have IE6 back!
I can log into LFSW fine with Firefox/Safari/Camino
