I'm completely new to LFS and enjoying it tremendously. I used to play Microprose Formula 1 Grand Prix quite a bit years ago but nothing for a few years until now. I'm currently racing a Formulla XR on the South City (long) track amd felt fairly confident lapping at about 1m:49 secs. I've just tried a race session against 11 computer cars and they are all qualifying at about 1 Min: 41/42 secs!! Now I know what it must feel like to tug around at the back in a Minardi! I feel my racing line and gearing is pretty good but I'm racing with the car on default setting 'out of the box'. Can anyone give me some tips on car set up to scrub off those 8 or 9 seconds a lap?

secondly, the default setups are all awful (except Race_S which isnt to bad), although for track specific sets try Setupfield.teaminferno.hu

@Jakg: If you like lift-off-oversteer, you'll like the race_S...

@mandalman: Bear in mind that the setups from setupfield are (mostly) highly unstable World Record-setups, which you may not like... If you join a server and ask for a setup (please do not ask while everyone is racing), you'll probably get a more stable race setup...

Practice my friend. LFS will reward you for dedication.

Also, have a look at some of the setup guides that are around. It will really help you in your understanding of the car and the way it moves on the track. Also you will be able to start adjusting certain things that could just make all the difference.

Just keep plugging away mate. It will come to you.

Also, get online. The AI can't tell you where you are going wrong or help you with your setup. Most other racers will be more than happy to help you out a bit.

With Race_S i can do 1:37's and probably a second or two faster if i was really pushing it.

Here is a replay of some messy but faster than AI laps using the Race_S setup that comes with LFS. They might be helpful but sorry about me hitting the wall im sure that part doesnt help

Thanks Guys - Guess i'll keep practising and join the odd server! Just wanted to practise a bit against AI cars before I unleash mayhem on the track amongst the community

BTW - How do I play sil3ntwar's movie? I presume I have to drop the file in an LFS directory somewhere?

Another thought - Would I be better advised to start on one of the open race circuits rather than South City?

There will be an SPR folder in your LFS folder. Drop it in there and start LFS. It should come up as a replay option.

Copied the file across and it appears in my list of replays but when it loads up it plays for about 1 second and then I get an OOS error. Am I doing smething wrong?

You might have and old version. Im using test patch 20 which can be found here http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=9869
