In race 4wd split adjustment
I think it would be a great and small addon to do so, like adjusting the front and rear sway bars, we could adjust the center diff. % to front/ rear so it would allow more control over the awd/4wd cars
Agreed, but only in cars that would really have this adjustment (the 4WD GTR perhaps, but maybe it wouldn't?). The RB4 wouldn't have this, as it's not trying to be a contemporary 4WD computer... errr, I mean car.

GTR might have it, but the RB4 could have it if it was trying to be like the STi or something similar. I guess you're right, RB4 is more like the older 4WD models... eg Celica GT-four.
Even the early STi's had no such configurable diffs. It's only in the last few years they've had them.

Of course the Skyline's had them for ages, but no one can take them seriously!
Yes, i was actually thinking about the subaru sti for the RB4 where we could also limit the split from 10% to 50% to be more realistic for that kind of car instead of the actual 5% to 95%

well.. when people refer to the STi, they mean the newest ones; the older STi's aren't exactly known

what about prodrive's [subaru] P2, that thing would deffinetly have a dial lol, after seeing that topgear, that thing is really impressive differential wise

also, skylines have had all wheel steering too, so basically.. a skyline is the best car one can get lol, all wheel drive, all wheel steering, an amazing computer in it.. and the list goes on lol (makes one wonder why so many people abhor such a car)
When people refer to STi I only think of the pre 2000 cars. They were, as far as I can ever consider a 4WD car, proper cars. Since then they're track day boys toys, and don't interest me in the slightest. They also look silly (now).
its an acquired taste

I respect and marvel the Skyline, they're incredible for what they are (not that I'd want one).

yes, because we all live in the U.S...
Just get an EVO XI with ACD. Unfortunately, I think I'll only get shot down for suggesting such superior technology.

Well, RL Subaru STis (latest model) do have DCCD (driver controlled center differential), so in car torque split set is anything but sci-fi.
Never said it was sci-fi, just that the 4WD cars in LFS are quite clearly not of the era of girly 4WD with computer controlled everything. They are more of the late 80's early 90's era of 4WD monsters.

Technology for technologys sake, or even speeds sake, does not necessarily make it superior.
Agreed, Tristan. It's true that 80s and 90s 4WDs don't get in car torque split adjustments.

Oh, a well caliberated ACD is DEFINITELY superior to any driver adjustable device.

Agreed, I'd love to see what would happen if someone built a modern big 4WD hillclimb single seater, I reckon it would have a huge advantage.
If it's massively overpowered, then yes, it's an UNFAIR ADVANTAGE.

excluding the 959 obviously

actually didnt some of the late 90s subarus have a centre diff adjust, i remember seeing an article were it had been mapped to road speed and other inputs and after being mapped to suit driver had a group n car running similar stage times to a group a car, just cant remember if it was a pre or post 2000 car

v3 type r`s and RA`s had a dccd unit built in to adjust the diff

thats 10 year old cars
As I have no idea what a V3 Type R and RA is I'll just have to accept it at face value. Is it an STi Subaru Impreza? Why not just call it that? It seems to be fashionable to refer to everything via the manufacturers codes to make everything sound impressive...

I know that the STi we worked on in 1997 (I think it was) that we got to 700hp for Pikes Peak (we didn't do all the work as we're not modern car or Subaru specialists, although we do specialise in the engine that Subaru copied) didn't have any of this computer nonsense.

Okay, a slight lie, as we fitted a Motec ECU and datalogging system, but that was recording everything and giving us a fancy digital dash display.

How old are you if u don't mind me asking, i got the impresion you were 20-22. but it seems as though your older because of the quote from above.
All of TC's secrets can be found here
looks alot younger than he is lol

I actually got asked for ID when buying cigarettes the other day. And you can do that at 16!!!!

i cut the names down, as the real names are rather long, here is the real name if you prefer

Subaru Impreza Version 3 WRX STI Type R
Subaru Impreza Version 3 WRX STI Type RA

the version 3 was realeased in japan around the back end of 1996 (i have a Version 3 WRX )

And all Type R`s/Ra`s since have had the adjustable DCCD Diff fitted to them.

700bhp from an impreza lump is hard work, which turbo was this running?

*edit*
actually after doing a little bit of research it seams the "Subaru Impreza Version 2 WRX STI Type RA V-ltd" had the diff as well in 95-96 years

i hope this adequately explains why i used a code to describe the name illepall
I guess it does explain, but I only understand the full names. I have no desire to learn the types of Impreza there are. As far as I'm concerned they are cars I never ever want to own. They do less than nothing for me. I'll stick with rear wheel drive cars as long as I have a choice. If it means I'm 0.3 seconds a lap slower then so be it, at least I'll have more fun
