Hi guys, I'm designing a new myspace layout and I'm just having a few problems with the fonts.

The css I've written should use the following font family: "Trebuchet MS", "Lucida Grande", verdana, georgia, sans-serif; which works fine when viewed as a webpage from the local file on my pc, however when I try to use the same code on myspace it doesnt seem to use the correct font meaning the layout doesnt look right.

Can anyone tell me how to correct the problem?

I'll attach the css as a text file and a picture of the two layouts produced.

Many thanks.

Anyone? Any suggestions welcome, need to get it sorted.
Hmm, I'm not sure. MySpace is a pain for fiddling with the CSS, I spent 2 hours sorting a small bug out in mine - and I'd consider myself to be competant in CSS.

The only thing I can think of for the font issue is to try un-quoting the first two fonts you've listed. If you notice, the font it's defaulting to is Verdana, which is the first of the unquoted fonts. Might be worth a try... Who knows, MySpace is ridiculous.

its always a good idea to post a link, or the actual source code, because you never know if the css is actually applied correctly in those websites where you just enter the css into a form, and some php script does the rest.

anyway, the CSS is far from being valid, so I guess thats the problem. Im just wondering why it works on your machine, maybe the php parser tries to correct the code to make it valid, which seems to be less powerful than the browser bug correction.

this isnt valid aswell, makes no sense in both semantic and syntactic way:

.sidebar

.sidebar ul { lalala }

the first .sidebar is just placed somewhere in the pampa...

First of all, you should start using correct color values: #RRGGBB not RRGGBB

--------[EDIT]--------

I've now made it valid, but I doubt it does what you want... you should really study the CSS syntax first before experimenting randomly, apparently by copying the stuff from various places

Thanks Orion

Yer I'm still learning CSS so this was a bit of an experiment, I realise I hadnt written it correctly but by the time I'd finished it was a bit late so I went to bed

I did have all the colour values as #...... but to make it compatible with myspace I had to take out the #, thats why thats not there.

Anyway thanks for your work, I'll give it a go.

looks like the guys at myspace are jerkier than I expected
Oh yes

Your rewritten CSS works perfectly as before when viewing it as a page saved on my pc, but still had the same problem with myspace. I think I'll have to change the design slightly and have a playaround to get it to work with myspace. Annoying really.

I'll continue to learn css, I've found a good way to start is to try experimenting with a few things, but as you can see that can soon lead to bad habits I guess. The reason it looks like it was copied from different sources is probably because I tried to add and adapt to some previous code I had first written, with new code I learnt from a (bad) source.

Cheers anyway

Hm thats weird really. Im sure the problem can be solved though. All I need is the html you used, and the html from myspace. baisically ALL code
Ooo ok. Hopefully I havn't made too many mistakes in the html

(as before I've used a small amount of previous code so its a bit messy at the top)

Oh yes, the myspace html WILL make you ill, I've copied the source code myspace creates for my profile.
349 errors at w3c validator, 576 including warnings and infos (automatic doctype detection)
When I set to XHTML 1.0, I get 1127(!!) errors.
lol, they are complete noobs... not even a doctype declaration, they don't even know how the correct syntax for a comment is.

Im sorry but I guess I cant help you there...

Well
I suggest you go somewhere else
Lol yer its terrible.

Well, thanks for trying, and sorting out my css
