HI,

Recently got back to running LFS after trying it about a year ago and finding it a bit lacking IMO physics wise. Vastly improved during that time and I am becoming quite addicted to it- even been taking away from my GPL time- so it's definetly on the upward slope

But I've been thinking about things I would like to see in LFS someday so I figured I would throw my two pence into the ring. Just my personal LFS wish list nothing more.

Cars:

LMP or DPT class type cars
Some sort of big V8 touring car e.g. Cadillac CTS-V/STS-v or Ford Mustang
NASCAR style V8 car

I've also- being and avid GPLer- wondered what a 'historically based' F1 car would feel like using the LFS physics engine. Might prove Veeerryyyy interesting me thinks

Sim features:

Night racing
Rain
Driver switches for endurance events (is this possible already? not sure)
Day/ night change over for same

Tracks:

A few more ovals some with higher banking e.g. Daytona and some short 'Bullring' type e.g. Bristol (I think these would be brilliant for not only the 'NASCAR' vehicles but also for the open wheelers- which are my first love for ovals.

Nordschleife- goes without saying but I'll say it anyhow.

A city track based in the Seattle WA. or northwest USA area (spectacular scenery AND it rains alot anyhow- a twofer )

I would like to see the Devs get in partnership with more things that can bring us real world content i.e. the BMW F1 deal, for two reasons, they can be monetarily rewarded for developing a real hardcore sim and we can get more real cars/tracks.

Ultimately, post S3 I'd imagine, I'd like to see user developed content but ONLY if it goes through a QC process and the devs have ultimate say yes or no.

Ok, that's all, just a wish list. Having a blast with LFS!!!

Cars will be added, but we don't kno what or when. I bet we'll get new ones in time though.

Night Racing is already on the to-do list
Rain (weather) is already on the to-do list
Driver changes - yup, already possible, but not enough spectator slots to make best use of it
Day/Night cycle - on the to-do list, and one of the few things ISI sims no do better.

Tracks - I'm sure Eric will keep working, making some awesome tracks. I hope he comes up with a decent oval and scraps Kyoto Ring (or bans formula cars from it), a very long track, but not Nurburgring length, which would be awful for 99.9% of racing in LFS. We've got people here moaning that they have to spend 30 seconds warming tyres, so I can't imagine that doing a 15 minute hotlap will go down well. Or are they just confused? I even hope that a second city track (narrower and bumpier) is added, with less 90 degree bends. But time will tell.

User Mods will be considered, but as you say it will probably have some QC on it, so that instead of 1000 crap mods we have 1 good one that lots of people have contributed to. The details will need a lot of work though to avoid the rCraptor fiasco.

Welcome back to LFS, and I hope you enjoy it. It's always improving, even if we only get improvements in patches - 3 people ork full time to make it better every day!

What a way to make a sim!
I went to ork once. Didn't like it!
Bugger you all! I'm not even going to fix the typo, because that would make me look paranoid.

Must... not... click... edit....

naa-noo naa-noo

I did forget to add one more thing to my wish list:

Some sort of 'Pro' mode where damage can and will put you out of the race most times. Right now if you limp back to the pits you are fully restored albeit after considerable time- but still really only a matter of seconds.

I think *Hope* this might contribute to better driving etiquette and more people using some racecraft rather than just going pedal-to-the-firewall as soon as the lights go out. Most times I just hang back and wait for the inevitable T1 cluster and pick up sometimes 6 or 8 positions.

Too many times online I just get out of the way of even a car I know is slower because I can tell that if I don't the rube is going to punt me and ruin my whole race- I'd rather give up the postion and keep racing. In a real life race the car behind is responsible for making a safe pass even on a slower car and is penalized if they don't- not so in *most* LFS online races. Hopefully I will find a league to join soon.

I don't think there will be a "pro-mode". No, don't take that wrong, the game will always be running in this pro-mode, simply because it's a sim. The damage-model we have atm is a simple, unfinished one, which makes it possible to limp back to the pits, but it is, because the devs decided to grant us a little damage (man, that sounds stupid), instead of having a damage model in S3.

Its Spelled Orc not ork. i never knew the devs played WoW

no, the devs are secretly rules by Orcs, they stand behind them and beat them whenever they complain about RSI or slow down!

Now you killed it.
" Some sort of 'Pro' mode where damage can and will put you out of the race most times."

As long as it's not as punishing as F1 06's canned effects- spin and your rear wing flies off, tap the back of another car and off comes one of your wheels.
It would be good if wheels could come off and if the wings came off on the BF1/F08/FOX.
This is for Tristan at first hand:

What makes a decent oval then if Kyoto isn't one? I played N2003 for a while and felt all the ovals boring and too similar. Can't imagine what features would make the difference between "exciting" and not exciting ovals.
Banning others from using what you don't use is legitimate because?
An exciting oval IMO, would be a short one, like bristol, where the lap times are very fast, theres closeness, and I think less formula cars and more of the GTR cars would be fun too.

Imho hotlappers are a very little part of lfs community, so, who care?
If they will not like nordschleife simply will not run on it, the others will run!

Au contraire! Nordscchleife is mainly a hotalp track (as I see it), so I think hotlappers would be veeeery happy with a track like that (and me too!!)

It would just be a waste of time as the novelty of it would soon wear off. How many people race the long Aston cofigs which are great? I hardly ever see them getting used and they are only 2-3mins long. A huge track like that doesn't promote good close racing which is why I play LFS... Not to be only own for a whole 12mins.

Hotlappers have been complaining about Scawen wanting to start them from pitlane because if they make a mistake on there flying lap they have to do the outlap again. So if they don't want to do a 1-2min outlap what the hell is the difference into doing 11mins and making a mistake at the last corner?
A historic F1 car would probably be very very hard to drive!

Those things didn't have much aero grip, and were much more understeery than nowadays. I recall Gilles Villeneuve calling his Ferrari: "A hopeless red Cadillac. Fast on the straight but it turns like an elephant!" Plus no traction control, laggy turbo and longer braking... not to mention the crazy HP figures!

In 1987, the BMW engine (by those days powering the Brabham cars) had around 1400 HP in qualy and 1100 HP in race...

I'd love to see those figures in a car in Live for Speed.

Or maybe you meant the sausage-like cars from the 60s?
It would be fun to get the Tyrell.
Quote from nutty boy :It would be fun to get the Tyrell.

The six wheeler? illepall

6 tyres to configure pressure, camber, compound... no thanks!

Yep they are hard to drive

Basically I was thinking about a LFSGPL type thing. I think the underlying physics engine of LFS simulating the GPL cars of '65-'67-'69 and such would be a very interesting thing, especially for those of us who have cut their 'sim teeth' on GPL and NR2003.
