Downloadable cars page
Hello, i know this may sound stupid but, somone told me that u only need to pay for license if the product (in this case LFS) is for sale. So if ppl want RL cars like: Ferrari Enzo, BMW M5 etc.. u can download them and so the devs won't have to pay for it (correct me if im wrong). So my idea was: make a page were S2 LICENSED users can go with there GAMEname and GAMEpassword can login and so they can download cars, but if a demo user uses a "friends" license and download the car they just can't use it and just still use the 3 demo cars like now(exept if the use the u-know-what)

S2 licensed person downloads it>sends it to his friend

Plus being S2 only it still wouldnt work...
Ain't no modding going on either. Custom cars won't be around for a while . . .if at all . . .

-like i said, they will c the car on there list, but they can't use it, exept they use a "program"

-well if the pakkage contains all the files we need to install the car why wouldn't it work??

because by limiting it to the people that have bought the full game, even though there is no technical reason that they can't and it being released by the developers could cause suspicion, but this is the first game i have heard to do it, although with NFS:PU/P2K (it had two names!) you could downoad 4 extra cars from EA games themeselver, a 996 GT2, 996 GT3, GT1 and a 928, although whether they were licensed i do not know, but seeing as EA had got the licenses for the 50 odd (dont know exact figure) cars in game, i cant see 4 more being hard to get

Would check but the link is down

Only other game that did that was MB World Racing, which had made up card available for download, so no licensing there

I Don't know why it hasn't been done before - maybe it's because no-one has thought of it - maybe it's because it won't work, i don't know

The devs dont allow modding because it sucks.

We don't need a huge amout of crap models in LFS, like there is in rFactor.
In a couple of years it might be possible to create custom content for LFS, with the required online systems to allow only good stuff of course.

but if the (a) dev(s) makes 1 car each 2-3 months then it would be nice
ill do some laps with the FO8 and then ill be satisfide again
Good boy. Satisify yourselve with what you have not what you want. . . .
tbh I still think your boardering on upseting the license holders of that particular cars/series.

For example rF has added Silverstone into there game but renamed the track to its location or something like that... now to me thats like me scraping off the Sony badge on my PS2 and putting K.Smart then selling it in bulk to shops, I'd get sued for all I've got by Sony if I did that.

Scrabby votes to ban: Funnybear (1/13)
Tristan wells Funnybear over voicechat leave/rejoin, and thus cancel the vote ban. Muhahahahaha.

It would work only if the cars are not named after their real life counterparts and look different.Calling something a Ferrari and making money on it requires you to have the permission from Ferrari. And permissions do cost money

No.

GTR (ie the original content) they pay, GTR mods are free and made by someone else
well can't we do the same?(if u have the knowledge)
GTR has real cars, real driver names, and utterly utterly fake, wrong and crap performance
there u have a point

LFS development is at Alpha, of Stage 2 of its life-cycle (of an expected 3 stage cycle). There are three main reasons why we can't mod.

Firstly, because the Devs are quite clear about not wanting people to mod LFS at this time.

Secondly, developing and introducing mods into a product that is itself in development introduces variables and variants into the product that make it very difficult to identify software bugs as original, core bugs, or bugs caused by poor coding/modding. The amount of time to further development of the core product would increase exponentially with the introduction of code that isn't within the control of the big guy Scawen.

Thirdly, and by no means least of all, mods at this stage are tentative at best. Changes that Scawen makes (and who knows what changes Scawen may make) could easily break even the coolest mod, rendering it useless until the modder throws many man-hours at it, to keep pace with the development of LFS. You'd have to be off your rocker to create a masterpiece of a hat, for a head that might be a different size and shape in a week or two.

...and you've just brought this thread to making mods for LFS

im sure you remember the "is this car in the S2 versions" thread with the picture of the McLaren F1 by Kegetys?
