The trouble is that if you have a 'simple' book it could well be wrong in certain situations, and if you have a correct book it's very hard going.
I'm honestly recommend the Caroll Smith - ??? To Win series (where ??? can be Tune, Engineer, Prepare and Drive), or Allan Staniforths Racing Vehicle Dynamics (I think it's called, my minds gone blank).
There are others of course, but it depends which bit of automotive physics you want to know about I guess.
