Sebastian Vettel!! in practice
guys.. isnt 1:22 an amazing lap time for monza considering the wr is 1:21(i think...) and he is in a V8 instead of a V10. i was expecting average lap times to be 2 or 3 seconds slower at least...

is it just because he was maybe running very low fuel and very sticky tires? i imagine that drivers would have done that in 2005 as well. i guess its aerodynamics and overall mechanical grip has advanced alot since 2004?
I really think Vettel might be a new star in F1. He does really well in the practice runs --- in Turkey he did good too. Some team needs to give him a set in the racing events, and see what happens. I am very curious of his talent
the official f1 website says the best lap time was 1:21... have they not updated or do they only take laptimes from the race and not qualify?
Hm, probably, fastest lap of the race last year was a 1:21.504
I've seen Vettel in two Formula BMW races on Zandvoort a few years ago... he PWNED the whole field, BY FAR. This guy really is a talent...
I made this picture of him, one of my best pictures ever I think (a shame I cant find the original anymore, this is an edit for desktop bg usage ):

i am so envious of him...
I have to admit the guy seems really good, but at zandvort in the f3 race he got 2nd. to AMERICAN charlie kimball of course lol. WOOT GO USA

Any win for a US driver is just luck Modoff

For now, we have Speed and Andretti to give us hope.... ermm minus Scott actually

You forget to mention that Vettel came from a 24th place on the grid there
Vettel is an alien or something. The whole BMW team seems to be doing great right now.
tbh although Vettel is obviously a great driver you still have to wander what the big names like Renault, Ferrari and McLaren could do in the free practice if they had the 3rd car. Last year McLaren pretty much dominated practice with there 3rd car.

There isn't much point in the big teams without a 3rd driver putting more miles on the engine than necessary in a session which doesn't mean anything.

SHHH lol yea we dont ever get to see good races like f3 or gp2 races in the states, I just read it, colin started 11th and vettel started 24th, But he still crosed the line first lol. Yea Tweak anytime and american wins is just a fluke cus everyone knows americans suck at driving ;-). BTW scott worked his a$$ off to get to F1 and Marcos whole racing carear has just been handed to him because of his last name.

Yeah, he actually won 18 of 20 races that year.
not only vettel but LOTS of upcoming stars headed into F1 shortly. And Kubica...WOW! That guy is amazing. 3 races into his career and already a poduim next to Kimi and Michael. THAT is impressive!

Yep. My current list of most promising drivers is Paffett, Hamilton, Rosberg, Piquet, Kubica, Vettel.

But you never know. Alonso was a little unexpected for instance and Pizzonia, Magnussen, Trulli and Sato looked incredible in F3.

omg the poor chap don't even have freedom in his helmet design and has to wear a redbull can.
all i can say here is: once alonso and kimi have their days, while Vettel, Hamilton, Kubica, and Rosberg develop...the title fights will be year after year between those four...IMO, and Piquet Jr. + Bruno Senna should make things interesting when they get to F1. IMO,

Rosberg needs a MUCH MUCH MUCH better team, and then he can shine.

Kubica is relying on BMW to step their car up from [consistent points with rare podiums] to [consistent podiums with rare wins] because Kubica will maximize the usefullness of the BMW. Afterwhich I think he will have a good offer at a strong team and begin his championship bid.

Hamilton and McLaren have years ahead of them to deliver the right car, and Alonso will be key to setting up a winning McLaren. Hamilton will take advantage by learning all of that and continue to strengthen his skill.

Vettel will also need to be given a similar chance as Kubica. IMO, Kubica and Vettel would be an excellent pairing, because Heidfeld is not really anything special and will never be. Vettel needs to gain experience from testing the Bimmer and maybe get on a decent team in 2-3 years.

Piquet and Senna are coming, and by their names and skill...will get good drives. Piquet will be in perfect situation in 2008 when Hamilton and Kubica have built their experience and Rosberg might get a better drive. Piquet will come in with 07 Renault testing experience and 08 will be a strong year in a strong car. Senna is still questionable on rides, I know hes looked after by Gerhard Berger, but I doubt and HOPE he doesnt go the RedBull direction, I dont find it a winning direction.
