Other than Indy, the only formula 1 fit circuit in America is Laguna Seca. I think they could fix indy up with a change of the infield, there's some space that could be used. Then the race would be much more interesting.

Laguna Seca is too narrow.

I'd LOVE to see changes to Sears Point and the race held there

holy elevation changes, batman!
Sears Point is about as narrow as Laguna Seca, maybe even narrower.

Only reasons why I think Laguna Seca is not a prime choice for a USGP is becaues it is very short with only 11 turns, not very fast straights, and overall it is just an 'old' track. Not to mention that F1 circuits are full of granstands and spectator ammenities, Laguna Seca is very slim on that deal.

It is however a classic, and F1 used to race there a long time ago on the old 1.8 mile version.

The USGP at Indy is the best you could get I think, and if you wanted anything better, something that is longer and looks nice will be good for F1. But a lot of our tracks are old.

Watkins Glen long course
Long Beach
Road Atlanta
Road America
Sebring

Those are the only other choices I think, with the first few being related to F1 in the past.
I think Road America would be good, lots of heavy braking corners with long straits =) 14 turns 4.1 mile long circuit, might be 4.2. with good elevation changes.
Road America would be a nice F1 track, but it still doesn't have all the amenities that Modern F1 tracks have, and I think it would be a shame to see it changed to reflect that. It's so pretty the way it is, I'd hate to see the trees and woods taken out and replaced with ugly grandstands
I would love to see F1 go back to Watkins Glen, but there are problems:
1. The barriers are way to close to the track, they'd need to be moved back.
2. The garage isn't in the pitlane, but that's an easy fix.
3. The front straight is too short to support a full grid, they'd need to make a longer front straight.

that's all i can think of, for now.
Hi. When I was at the Houston Grand Prix, I bought a program and it mentioned Champ Car racing in Vegas.... Seeing map of the track(?)
posted... Maybe they should a put it in Henderson.
I like the Fremont Waay better than the Strip, but that area where they're wanting to run the race isn't exactly tourist friendly

Oh and "screw Vegas... Laguna Seca..." ?
Please... California ain't a state it's one big outpatient facility...
I bet there's a movement of some sort there to outlaw racing as it destroys the environment or something.
Vegas = free drinks* and 5 females to one male population ratio
and most of those are attractive and hell after the free drinks - they all are
Just don't ever EVER get on a time share bus for free tickets to a show.

There has to be a way to keep the trees, though when I was there this spring they had taken out quite a few if I remember right.
F1 should come to Mid-Ohio
This would be a very challenging track especially with no traction control and wide slick tires.

<------ This is why F1 should come to Mid-Ohio
Yeah Watkins Glen really should be improved. I'd hate saying it, but if Tilke were to give it a makeover, I am sure it would be a venue for F1.
Yea on our vegas news they annouced a f1 race and even showed m shumi, they are soo dumb lol got me excited too
Utah's Miller Motorsports?

You've got so beautiful raceways, why do you wanna get them ruined by Tilke ?

He is by far the one who designes the most boring and unfluently tracks you can imagine.

It may help the USA in terms of F1 besides Indy, but you also loose a good track
Cuz Tilke is the only way F1 will ever come to the US. He is Bernie's bitch... for lack of a better word

He does a good job, but all his designs look the same and I do dislike how most F1 courses are being built by him. But the my point is, our tracks look like POO compared to most F1 circuits. We have old stuff.

Over on the frontpage of http://www.hkracers.com we have this same story posted and wanted to drop the latest news to all the Live For Speed fans... (make sure to check out the offical website to the Vegas Grand Prix below too)

Las Vegas City Council Approves Grand Prix Written by Administrator Sep 19, 2006 at 05:06 PM
The Las Vegas City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to proceed with a three-day festival that will literally take over downtown Las Vegas in April. The Las Vegas Grand Prix race will be run over a constructed 2.4 mile course throughout the area. The race means closures and safety measures, but it will also pump thousands of tourists into downtown.

Neighbors in the area met with Grand Prix officials Tuesday where people had some concerns.
With the cars racing, there's going to be a lot of noise, or, as race officials call it "sound".
The streets are going to be shut down and barricades put up. But many are still excited.
The mayor's not worried about the noise.
"Only a sourpuss would get mad if they heard a bit of noise," Oscar Goodman, Las Vegas' mayor, says.
The race is expected to bring in more than $75 million to the area. The city officials are really excited about the exposure downtown will get because the race will be on network TV.

That's a champcar track, no?

Don't understand the idea of the right-right-left-left-right combination (turns 5-9 as it will make that portion of the track impossible for overtaking. They should have cut it at the corner before T5, making it "only" a right-left-right.
It is champcar yes.

I hope it goes well for you with a Vegas track. When Champcar decided to invent their "genious" San Jose track downtown nearby here.... it wasn't that great at all. And actually by far one of the worst tracks I have ever been too. It has been their 2nd year, and after they swore the fans for an improvement, it still was a disaster. Mock-up city tracks are nothing like a real track of course... and putting up barriers and tall fences is not great for spectators at all. You won't be able to see much.... at least at the SJGP we couldn't

I'll still watch the GP, hoping Las Vegas will be a cool event  Enough to decide to scrap San Jose and go back to Laguna Seca, please!!!!
Isnt there another thread with the exact same name? And what does this have to do with LFS?

But South City has the same right/right, left/left combination.
