EA buys Dice
huh? EA won't be interested in LFS until it gets bling bling cars, NOS and super-duper-arcade mode and that's not gonna happen as long as Scawen has full control in his brain.
EA has been a longtime partner with Dice as far as I know... I don't see much of a difference to be honest

Didnt know that.
Quote from Stellios :
When will EA get the hint that they are CRAP!

.. no idea what your talking about; EA is the largest game producing company out there and that will be its comeback which you seriously.. cant beat

EA's intention is to please and enjoy people and free them from boredom.. and quite honestly its easily visible that it is doing a damn good job of it too

if you have a personal grudge with EA than thats your own flaw because there are billions of people out there waiting for the next EA game to come out only to find out that it hits the top selling charts in about an hour after selling date; just dont bringe your grudge here because EA has and is and will be doing a really good job of leading the way to future games
I must admit ive never been a fan of ea as their games arent exactly great and are mainly aimed at people who want the pick up and play factor and thats something i dont really like and look for.

If you read about ea on wikipedia it gives a good view of the company and its policy. Their goal is to make money but thats the same with any business but they do it by producing "run of the mill games" as the article says. We have seen this with fifa and nhl quite popular franchises but the quiality of the games isnt usually very good and sometimes the a new version of a game doesnt really feel new as many textures/sounds/models are reused (again example of nhl) game hasnt changed much since the 2004 version with things looking very similar except the changed of team kits and faces.

There have been games that i have enjoyed from ea like need for speed 1 and 3, medal of honour, nfsu, but i am annoyed at the quality of some games like medal of honour (last one) which was totally rubbish, a game filled with bugs, ran like shit and didnt even compare to the first series...there are more examples of ea just taking a game, having a nice idea, bring out a good solid first title and then ruin it in the sequal....

but as xc nuse said, they are there to entertain people who are bored and aslong as people are bored they will continue to make money and computer games.

I dont have a problem with ea, if i see a game which i think is good i will buy it but can't say that has happened recently when i held a ea title in my hand...

all i can say that if it wasnt for ea i probably would have never got into racing games as need for speed one was the first game i have ever placed eyes on and is probably the reason why i am here today, it got me into cars...

mad

edit: also Sims were quite playable cant remember if they were the ones that developed it

It's the part of the whole "I hate Windows, all games and music should be free, screw Bill Gates, corporations must die" spiel. I think it's a European thing. Don't try to use logic to understand it, some people just hate the fact that others make more money than them.

The funny thing is that LFS costs the same or even more than most commercially available games out there, everybody tends to forget about that.

But yeah, EA is evil because they make games that millions of people can enjoy and they charge money for it. Basically the same thing that LFS developers do. I'm not sure what the problem is.
I worked for EA's Tech Support, and glad I left... but honestly there are many good things about the company. But the customers are just their source of all the cash, and they have so many, it becomes very hard for them to handle such a huge diversity. Blah, phone support costed people like $2 a minute or something if I remember correctly, terrible.....

lol thats what i figured it was heh.. (nothing mean intentioned if you took any btw) not sure about price though; LFS costs half or less than half of what a new game costs (well.. per stage atleast) buying S2 straight costs about the normal price (... eeesh :S) lol when you kinda think about it though, games from EA are really just.. full of stuff though, when compared to LFS LFS has like nothing lol, just a minimal number of cars and tracks compared to other games out there (but.. obviously i have to keep in mind the difference in number of workers on projects on both sides)

either way, the only time i dont hold up for EA is when they go against its' reason for producing games for the public.. which.. i think everyone will be kinda pissed off when EA stops making games lol
kinda like why im pissed off at ford now because apparently they want to "lower" themselves into a lesser known car company and not so widely branched as GM and the other major companies.. dont ask why (cause im not sure really.. if its even happening for that matter) but to me it sounds like a dumb idea *unless they are seriously moving that fast into debt

When I saw the title of thre thread I thought, "that sounds about right. EA have purchased some dice which they will use to help make game development decisions".... then I realised it was the company called dice that was the subject. Easy mistake to make I suppose.
hahahah i can see a big corporate business buying some dice and deciding the future of the business that way and then someone making a movie out of it lol

Not 100% sure what you mean here, but Ford is going down the dumpster FAST. Whatever they want to do they need to take care of it soon or risk going down the drain.

Personally, I don't really understand the point of purchasing foreign automobile companies when they can't sell cars at home. There is something very wrong about building a Jaguar luxury car using Volvo chassis and American (read: cheap ass) interior. MHO tho

PS i drive an '04 Ford Taurus, so its not my fault they are going bankrupt
EA is just a passionless corporation out there to do one thing, make money...it is natural for people to not like them.

The Devs will never sell out LFS, they know that the whole community is based around the close relationship with themselfs and the racers. Other games lack this quality because you don't feel part of it, you feel more like a customer that doesn't matter after the game is purchased.

If LFS ever sold out to the likes of EA I would expect a similar situation to that of OFP. The original OFP team started their own project after Codemasters bought them out, Armed Assult will be bought by all the OFP fans...while OFP2 (codemasters version) will be bought by the type of people who play Battlefield 2 as its likely to be dumbed down.

Likewise if LFS sold out to EA we would see bodykits, nitrous oxide and chrome spinners...not to mention dumbed down physics so that a 3 year old could play it and a soundtrack straight from the latest Kerrang album.

LFS may lack content compared to EA games, but i would rather have a gram of gold than a tonne of crap.
Did EA ever settle that class action suit? They really screwed over more
than a few people... If they'd just lie about their quarterly earnings, they'd be just like ENRON.

I had a friend work for them as a contractor... Doing lighting effects for some FPS or another. He was working over 70 hr.s a week. when you broke his
salary down to an hourly rate, he was barely making as much as a burger flipper... Ok maybe a convenience store assistant manager... still.
Interesting that only americans defend EA...

EA does just one thing: Buying the rights of great titles (by assimilating other developers/publishers) and making crap out of it (for example: C&C) or they do annual releases for the same game, where they just fixed some bugs from earlier releases that have been there years ago... Their customer relationship is sublevel standard to non-existant and things they promise almost never get into the game (at least not that year's)...

As much as they are successful, they're treating their customers like sh*t... I just hope someday they'll wake up and not buy games from them anymore...

@The DICE-EA thing: Which logo was on every BF-release? EA... So this step was only a matter of time...
Huh thats OOOOLLLD news to me...
I thought that already was definite since half a year ago or something
They never bought Dice, they were only the common publisher for Dice's big games, like bbman said.

They have been partnered for probably almost 6 or 7 years I'd say. But the only game I can think of that was connected is the V8 Supercars game. That was Dice Australia and EA if I remember correclty.

But their relationship has been really good since all these Battlefield titles became a huge success. This now means that Dice will only do as EA says, and not work on their own titles published by someone else.

well said
Quote from XCNuse :l LFS costs half or less than half of what a new game costs

That MAY be the case stateside, but in the UK the major corporations (M$, EA, Sony, etc) have a favourite hobby called "RIPPING OFF THE LIMEYS"

The aim of this game is to charge the UK users an average of 70% MORE for the same product, meaning that this side of the pond, games, DVD's and even a bum (But LEGAL) copy of Windoze costs more.
Dont worry, I wont take _this_ opportunity to rant about what we pay for petrol (gas), I'll just remind you all!

The point is, In the UK an 'average' game will cost between £30-$45 (thats approx $60-$90!!!) and in a lot of cases will have a playable lifespan measured in weeks, not years!

Finally, if the impossible happened and EA did buy LFS, imagine how you will enjoy getting the new patch...say S2-U21, and finding that instead you had to BUY LFS 2007 for full price??
lol if EA bought LFS then people would actually know about it; but knowing EA, EA only sells games really; EA doesn't actually make the games so.. the devs would probably continue making the game they just might have more people to work with

in a technical view i wonder how it would turn out really..
Quote from XCNuse :lol if EA bought LFS then people would actually know about it;

and EA would charge more for the game to recoup the astronomical costs of global advertising!

LFS gets advertised by the BEST medium possible..word of mouth from one happy customer to another..might be slower, but its a lot more cost-effective!

EA is mostly a producer. That means they fund developers and tell them what features are good for their games and what features aren't. (Very basically speaking.)

In LFS's case that'd mean Scavier had to send pre-release versions of the game to their producer, EA, for "quality assurance". EA would then most propably say "A lot too difficult for out target consumers" and make a list of things to change to adjust the game for EA's markting strategy. That list would read something like simplify setups, create cool backfire effects (even on non-turbo cars, as most target consumers don't know what backfire-systems actually do apart from looking cool), add a "trafic driving mode", create a credits system to buy additional tuning parts, create better driving assists like visible ideal line, etc. This would make LFS a lot more attractive to the broad mass of underage gamers which will help LFS to generate lots of money.

After this reviewing and adjustment process the devs would have to follow EA's demands or EA would just stop funding them.

The problem about EA is that it's very much focused on money. That's a good thing for people who hold EA stocks, but bad for all players who dislike typical console-gaming. EA wants to raise funds and thus produces (produce as in "Producer") games that are likely to generate a lot of money, like NFSU, NBA, etc. Quality games don't raise lots of money. Simple, quick, flashy and impressive games raise money, even if they have no replayability. EA's interest is about the funds you leave at the store, not about the fun you have while playing the game 8 months after the purchase.
Sure, as a company that's the right thing to do. It just doesn't gain any sympathy with those players who enjoy playing a game longer than two weeks.

Will never happen, because EA's goal is to make money and Scavier's goal is to make a perfect game. Those two can't be compromised so that neither of them would ever agree.

edit: what Vain said.
Quote from ATC Quicksilver :EA is just a passionless corporation out there to do one thing, make money...it is natural for people to not like them.

Boo Hoo!! They are making money while you spend your time playing LFS. Yeah, that's definately a reason not to like them!!!

Quote from frokki :Will never happen, because EA's goal is to make money and Scavier's goal is to make a perfect game. Those two can't be compromised so that neither of them would ever agree.

Is that why they charge 24 quid for the latest version of LFS? E-mail the developers and ask them whether or not they want to make any money with this game. If you think not, then you've got another thing coming.

People, please! I know that big corporations are meanies, and we all should live in socialism and rub each other's backs all day long, but it doesn't always work this way.

EA and other gaming corporations provide thousands, probably millions of people with jobs that feed their families. EA and other gaming corporations provide millions of gamers with good quality games. However, how do you make sure that a game sells well? Sometimes it means "nitrous oxide" and "chrome wheels" and "dumbed down physics". Do I play NFS:U? Hell no. Do I go bashing around big corporations? No.

I just hate all this whining about how big corporations suck, while most of you are sitting in front of a borrowed computer in your mom's basement. I work for a big corporation that not only provides jobs for thousands, but also provides life-saving drugs for millions of people (its a pharmaceutical company). Would three people in their basement be able to make drugs to cure millions? I don't think so. You need a BIG company for that.

How many jobs did LFS create? Three?

Sorry for the rant, I just hate stupid bitching and whining about "mean corporations".
@silver bullet (you nick takes a different meaning after you've explained you work for a pharmaceutical corporation ) - please take time and read this:

http://www.the-underdogs.info/scratch.php

It's a very good series of articles about the history of corporations - starts out with a similar gamer-perspective as the one hinted in this thread.

The site it's from is one of the leading sites in legal abandonware games - not political or anything like that.
