Me and my friend have got the same internet connection yet I have a better graphics card. When using offline play my FPS is alot more than my friends. Its often about 100. Yet when I try to go online It goes down to about 16. My friend has got the same internet connection but his FPS is alot higher than mine. why is this? thanks

internet connection doesn't affect FPS - chances are more cars (...ie in multiplayer) means more load on the cpu, and your friend has a faster one than you
CPU? and even with one car its really slow. Offline mine is miles faster than his.

CPU - your processor, it does all the physics calculations (think of it as your PC's "Brain")
but why would mine be really quick offline if my CPU was slow? btw thanks for this, i'm new to the online scene!

when theres just one cars their only 1 lot of physics calculations, and online there can be up to 20, so it really can take it out on the CPU

Try racing with a full race of Ai, if it is a slow cpu on your pc it will give you a lower FPS than your friend, if not then theres something else going on

Are you both using the same views? That can make a big difference in FPS
I had something simmilar when Vertex Shaders was accidentaly off in LFS. You should check if HVS is ON in options.

will do. I think there is something else happening cos with only 1 car its around 16fps.
So basically i must have a dodgy setting or something??

Maybe, just make sure you understand the basic principle Jakg was trying to tell you, the more cars on the screen the less FPS you will get.

But you can tweak your settings to try and help with this.

no, you could just have a slow pc, mind sharing your specs?
im not actually on the computor i game on so i cant get the specs. I just can't understand how my computor can run so well offline but terrible online. i'll try and find the specs on the internet.

Before we carry on, how many cars do you race with offline, then when you get bad FPS online how many cars were there?

isn't being on the internet tbh, it's just that theirs other cars, try seeing what the FPS is with a few AI (well, the more the merrier!)
Offline: I can have as many cars as i like without it slowing the FPS much
Online: With just me on the track its about 16FPS

Therefore Its not really sensible to race online because its constantly stopping and starting

And I know i've said it before but here is what my firends comp does.

Offline: miles worse than mine
Online: miles better than mine

Cool, I had to make sure. I was getting horrible flashbacks.
My computor is a HP t800 series if it helps, not sure which one in the range it is though.

saying that doesn't help - i want to know the actual specs
i cant get on that computor until monday night so unless i can find the specs on the internet i can't tell you until then. I will post them up on this thread on monday night so look out for them. thanks, joe
just another thing. U don't think It could be anything to do with the internet connection do you? because I was think9ing about rigning karoo.
#21 - Jakg
like i said before, FPS is not affected by your net connection
So why is my FPS seriously affected when i go online? I don't mean to sound inpatient etc. lol
#23 - Jakg
no idea - it sounds like a dodgy pc!
could it be a virus protector etc. working overdrive??
