Wow, I'm glad I got it right then. I didn't know where Spar's is from, never seen it before. Would have changed it if it didn't fit though.
Took a break from retexturing today, raced some LFS instead. And played a bit of BF 2142, which I can't work out if I enjoy or not. Tomorrow I'll try and get the rest of the signs done- still having trouble with the fonts though.. Maybe I'll end up being a bit more liberal with the look of the company signs. I've already changed the pharmacy sign somewhat (see above). What would you guys prefer, strict adherence to the old look, or something a little different?
Personally, as long as the "feel" of the enviroment is retained, I don't much care whats changed regarding signs, font used etc. Its your modification, do with it as you please mate.
Axus, you're right about the traffic lights. I'll tone it down a bit. Glad you're enjoying Blackwood 2.0b. I've always loved your avatar BTW, really suits the technical style of your posts- critical physics at the edge of flight.. or something.
I can never find a nicer avatar when I look. BMW 3.0 CSL ftw.
Keep up the lovely work on textures. Tony West might just have some competition there.
EDIT: Small improvement suggestion for the green run-off strips on Blackwood - I think that the grass under them needs to be lighter, to match the surrounding grass better. Also I think they're just a tad repetetive - having these two things fixed would make Blackwood the most beautiful thing ever, IMO.
Yes, they don't really match up. I've often thought about maybe clone-stamping some of the adjacent grass texture into the exposed areas of the strips. Also, I've noticed a lattice like concrete path down the road from my place that I can get a few shots of, that might look a little better than the current texture...
Hmmm.. It's difficult for me to decide how far to go with these textures. For eg, the cracks in the painted curbs I did for Blackwood- they don't really show up in normal racing but then again they do look pretty decent when at standstill or for a screenshot for instance. Should I have bothered? I don't know. Al Heeley made a point that higher res is pretty pointless for a game like LFS because you're moving too fast to really notice the details... you're getting minimal improvements in image quality at best. Strangely, I kindof agree! But then again I really do prefer higher res over the normal resolution- ugly pixellation can be a real immersion killer for me. I guess I've decided that the main purpose for doing the tracks is just to become more proficient in texturing for games- this is an area in which I'd love to land some proper work sometime in the future. LFS has been a good learning tool because of all the limitations- dealing with strange tiling or mapping issues for eg...
Re: South City, I'll try to have it ready soon- been a bit busy as my girlfriend and I are getting organised to fly to Melbourne mid Nov.. hopefully I'll finish up before then, but if not, I'll zip something up anyhow and finish things off when we get back (in 3 months), that's if Eric hasn't released an offical update within that time.
Axus, if you click on the present, you should arrive at the page where it says 'your download is ready, please click the link' or something similar. Sometimes it will want to show a full page ad first- there's a link to continue to filefront, you should be able to proceed from there. If you're still having troubles, pm me and I'll see what I can do. edit: link fixed
Jakg, yes there is a darker track available- Devil007's original track for the first Blackwood release we did. I'll hunt around for the files ok?
PS, yeah I love the reflection mod too. It's the only other mod I use apart from CSR. Go Yamakawa! Oh, and DaveWS's collection of tyresqueal sounds. Fantastic stuff.
It's possible, but I reckon it looks a bit too artificial if it's just seamless. I have an earlier version of the curb where there's no edge, and I thought the newer one looks a tad better, but nothing is final yet.
Guys, I'll release a WIP pack tonight for you to check out and see where you'd like things to improve. Tomorrow I'm busy and the next day we're off to Melbourne, so tonight is the night. There's still a few important missing textures, other's I'm not happy with at all- ie, the shop signs... they are terrible... but you'll be able to get a basic idea of how things will look.
