illepall Thank´s for your "comment"!
(Ah! "not longer welcome") ......

I know- Skype is a frame-killer!
But maybe there was a reason why I was using skype instead of TS ...?

@ kaynd
I made a newinstall off LFS -incl.0.5U. U 20 I will try...
-THX!

Piet

Have you tried updating to test patch U20?

It’s clear that there is not a performance problem… you have a Core Duo processor it is possible to capture video while playing lfs… (the cpu code must be 6xxx or else it is not core duo)

He says 805 smithfield, which is a P4D, not a core (2, desktop version) duo.

My PC:

- Asus P 5WDH Deluxe (Wifi)
- Core Duo D 805 (Smithfield)
- NVidia 7600 GT (256mb)
- 2x 1024 SKill 6400 -800
- Creative SB0350 Audigy 2 ZS Sound Card
- SAMSUNG HD300LJ (S-ATA)
- WDC WD16 00JB-00G
- HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GSA-H20L
- NEC DVD_RW ND-2500A

He says that not me… so it is a Pentium D and not a core duo… Even though, the cpu performance is more than enough for LFS, whatever run on start-up…

@speedpiet
I don’t know what to say you have tried everything… and since you have not performance problems with other games it is not that the problem.
It seems to be incompatibility with your hardware but I have seen pc with the almost the same configuration to work with lfs perfect… it doesn’t make any sense
Hi again!

I got one more "stupid" idea: I don't know the other games but I assume all if them are DirectX 9 based games while LFS uses DirectX 8.

It could be interesting to use an older DirectX 8 based benchmark to see how it performs. Furthermore, one might try to deinstall DirectX 9 (what isn't that easy, I think) and to downgrade to DirectX 8. Of course, this can be again only for testing purposes.

Another minor point: Did you install all mainboard-related drivers? Like mainboard-USB, mainboard-IDE and so on? Might be important, too.

Jens (Red Runner)

PS: I know, these ideas are quite, hmm, strange, but you're in a strange situation ;-)
@ kaynd- Yiassou file,

THX for your answer!

Maybe the marking "Core Duo" was not accurate...
In "Everest" it´s named: DualCore Intel Pentium D 805 / Smithfield

Anyway.. as you sayd- enough for LFS!

I tried patch U20! Offline the same sh**!! And online -like before- at the start (16 cars on the server, 10 in front of me) about 28 fps. Later up to 50.
It really seems to be incompatibility....

But the main problem is OTE (Greek Telecom)!
With a proper dsl connection it would not be necessary to play most of the time offline! :chairs:

Ta leme!

Hi Jens!

Maybe it´s not so stupid... I didn´t know, that LFS is using DirectX 8 ! Hmm..
I´m a little bit scary to try DX 8. I prefer to look for new drivers!
But I guess, the drivers are up to date... (BIOS and chipset-drivers are new)

Ok... to be continued...

THX!

another edit...

all mainboarddrivers are updated ------------> without effect!!!

Why the hell LFS is not running on my new PC???

And now? Voodoo????
I really don´t know what else I could do.....
Maybe you could try this.
Click Start>Run>msconfig and select "Diagnostic startup". (I noticed you have a german WinXP version, but I cant give you a german translation). After restarting your system will run only with necessary processes, so you can find out if any "legal" process isnt slowing down your system because of something.

Also I noticed that you have an PCI soundcard. Are you sure that you have disabled integrated sound in BIOS? That sometimes screwes up LFS.

And finally, check your CPU tempreature(Asus PC Probe can do this) and "working effectivness" of CPU(ThrottleWatch). P4E and D based CPUs have a little bit tricky thermal control and when they go over approx 70°C they slow down themselves massively. (just for example, installing a better cooler on my P4E 3,2GHz DOUBLED my CPU-score in 3DMark 05)

EDIT - Just by the way, using D805 for gaming is not generally considered a good idea, particulary when you want to play some games using older single-thread engines(LFS, UT2004, Q3 and so on). D805 has only 2,66GHz real clock so even old 5xx P4 series will crush it in LFS.
(Of course I dont know what do you mainly use your PC for, so please dont take this as an offence)

..2 FPS more...

..yes, I did...

..temps are ok..

Maybe you are right- but on my Notebook (Asus A6 JA) with a T 2300 CPU (CoreDuo 1,66!) LFS is running perfekt!

It´s really a strange problem! illepall
Even Scawen couldn´t help...

I guess the only way is a complete new install!
I must admit that the reinstall is the only thing that left... it looks like some rare-used part of WinXP has broken down(some DX library or whatever).
The last thing that I would do before formating hard-drive is applying the latest DX9c version(IIRC the Aug06 redistribution is the newest).

If you reinstall the system, please let us know if it helped(at least I am really curious if it helpes).

BTW, I must admit that you have really strong nerves. I had FPS problem some time ago and I almost enabled a "free-fall hardware acceleretion" on my computer case

-new DX9 I installed 2 or 3 days ago... (guess what happened) ...
-of course I´ll give a report!
-oooooh yess... my nerves... Since more than 3 weeks I try to find a solution.. *grrrrr*

If the newinstall is without effect, please send me your "free-fall hardware" !

Hi speedpiet,
did you solve in any way? I have exactly the same problem: LFS run really smootly on my laptop (centrino 1600 that should be slower than my desktop even considering that the video card isn't so good...) but I can't play it on my desktop (amd 2400 with radeon 9800pro). I have about 11/15 fps on starting both on single player and online mode then it became almost playable.

regards,
Arf
Hi Arf,

2 days ago I made a newinstall off xp-pro and lfs on a new hdd...
THE SAME RESULT !!!! FPS are the same like before!
I´m looking now for a big hammer... :smash:

No ideas anymore.
Maybe we should look for a extra "LFS-PC" ....

Regards,
Piet
Maybe try a new PSU?
It is definitely not about PSU, with low-power PSu would PC crash or something, not just be slow.

We should focus on what does LFS differently that other games. LFS is relies about 90% on CPU. Maybe you should check your CPU usage when LFSing with TaskManager. Also using a ThrottleWatch worth a try as same as doing some CPU performance tests(3DMark 06).

@arf_it: Did you try to update on recent Catalyst drivers? There are known issues with version 5.12 and above which are fixed in latest releases.

-LFS = up to 85 %
-GTR2 = up to 95 % (!)

But GTR2 (RBR/GTL/..) is running perfect!! illepall

yup I currently have 6.14... Tomorrow I will try to update driver to a newer version..

@speedpiet

Well It's strange... I can't understand: my desktop is faster than my laptop in any other game... Because of my laptop is the "external" extention of my desktop, the software installed are very similar (the same antivirus, office and so on..) I tried to put LFS in windowed mode and look on task manager: the CPU usage is really hight but even tring to play at 640x480 or without any effect still can't reach more than 15 fps

Maybe free-fall acceleration can help.. the problem is that is a "one way" solution

Arf

Well.... I guess.. .. you´re right!

Hmpf... I hate situations like this!
There must be a solution!! *AAAaaarrrghh* :banghead:
I'm sorry I don't have an answer for you , but I have a question for everyone else who is trying to help.

My computer has a lot of clutter on it (and its a little old, heh), and I'm trying to set up a seperate username for LFS. I already emptied my startup folder, and I manually ctrl-alt-delete pretty much everything run by the usename I logged into (Nothing with local service, network service, or system though. I've crashed it one to many times getting end process happy). Reading this thread though, I've seen MSCONFIG mentioned a few times. So I ran it ^.^

Is there any ways to tell what is what and what it does so I know what I can disable? I figure all I'll need running is virus protection, a firewall, graphics/sound/controller drivers, and everything else can die a horrible death via removing it's little checkmarks. If someone wants to PM me saying they'll help me, I'll upload screenshots of everything running so they can help me kill it all . But again, I'd rather a way to check what everything does so I can do it on my own time and not bother anyone else...

Thankies in advance . And sorry if this winds up hijacking the thread, I'm hoping for at most a single responce, or just some PMs.
#43 - Jakg
i use Autoruns (google it) - it's much better than MSCONFIG, and lets you right hand click on a process and the holy Google will tell you what it does!
Er, thanks. Wow. I've got a lot of work ahead of me... Heh. Thanks though.
