IP Game
Is there a way to host a direct connect IP game or LAN through 2 computers not on a network?

I want to play against my friend while at his house, he has 2 computers and no internet.

Host the game as usual, on the top row (visibility) select "local" in hosting screen and then join it with the other pc by typing the line below in entry screen.
/mp IP PORT

e: Or you could use join specific game menu and select local from there.
The point here is "not on a network"

Buy two cheep usb wireless adaptors
You could do ip over serial connection, but in the long run you'd be better of networking them with a cat5 crossover cable instead. At least that way you aren't investing in technology that you'd probably never use again.

2 cheap network cards, a cross over cable, set up both machines to have static IP's, on the same subnet, and voila.

If thats not an option, you just need some way to communicate using TCP and UDP between the 2 machines; which should imply a connection of some form unfortunately.

Oh one other option would be to network them using USB. Again if they ever expand the network, it's less than ideal and theres a short limit on USB cable length.

Wireless isn't my current area of expertise (although I know a fair bit), but what sort of thing are you thinking about trying to do / whats the problem?

There's no problem as such, it's just that I have always been interested
in radio building small fm radio's etc. and never could find an answer to the
question: Is it possible to lower the frequencey of a wireless
card(through software) to the FM band.
Given that this hardware costs a lot of money to get set up for an inthusiast,
this would be a much cost friendly solution, heck I mean even if it meant I
had to crack open the card and change resistors etc(really fun to work on small stuff with a microscope)

Tis, but I just don't know enough about programing/cards and don't see a reason why it could not be easly done through software.
If the hardware supports it, and this would vary wildly, you could make very small adjustments in the output using software hacks, but no where near what you're after. It could be theoretically possible to hack at the hardware, but again it would depend on what card you're trying to do it on.

Unfortunately when it comes to low level of electronic hardware hacking I'm not exactly up to date, nor do I have an aptitude for it You might want to have a poke around the hackaday or makezine community. Someone might have the sort of knowledge there do beable to answer your question with something exact.

tbh you'd probably be better off building a little transmitter which you connect to your machine via USB, and then writing some little bit of bespoke software to control it

bespoke, tbh my level of writing app's is zero.
I wouldn't now where to start there getting the radio to send info via usb hell theres only 4 wires there two power and the other two

I can't see a wi-fi antenna having much gain at 100MHz. I had to make a wi-fi antenna (out of a Pringles tube) for Uni for one of my wireless comms modules, and it was hard enough to tune it exactly for 2.4GHz without it wandering off.
