Who says the LX are caterhams anyway, the original is the Lotus 7 and so many people make these clones that it could be any of them. Down here they fit 3.5 V8s in them http://classiccarfair.com/2006_mach_seven_v8.htm

There is no need to change the 4 and the 6, they are what they are and are single car class cars which is fine.

Yes the 8 will be good as long as NO downforce is added. We need some RWD on slicks without downforce, that is the area LFS has no cars atm.

Yay. Jeff posted "bias ply slicks" again and I was the first to spot it this time.... What is my prize
Quote from JeffR :
Since these are the current cars, LFS should model these, not the cars of the past. If there are to be 3 different LX's, then I'd recommend 140hp, 200hp, and 260hp. The 260hp...

I think in that case it's good that you aren't one of the Developers. And how many times have you said that 140hp, 200hp, 260hp, I lost count on the 279th time. Is it so hard to understand that most of the LFS cars are BASED on real life counterparts, they aren't 1:1 (except MRT5, RAC, BF1 at some stage). I'm quite happy with both of the LX's, if there is gonna be a LX8 someday - I'll probably drive it too. They do produce "7" replicas here too, there were some 30 engine/gearbox/rear axle combos and a V8 version too (Chevrolet V8 (small block) 5.8 litres (355cid), Power: 375 hp, Torque: ~430 Nm). Should I start repeating myself here over and over again with the request with exact this setup, because...erm...just because.
Quote from Forbin :I have to say, compared to the FO8, the LX6 is quite tame.

Well, that's because it's an LX6 and the FO8 is ... an FO8

I always thought the point of a comparison is that you're comparing things that are somewhat similar to each other

An LX8 would certainly be a cool thing, but then we'd have 3 cars that look basically exactly alike (we have that going on with the XR series already). I think I'd prefer something completely new to an LX8 at this point. So many car options haven't been explored yet, e.g. LM cars, Rally cars, Formula Fords & karts to name but a few that have been discussed.

Also, what would the LX8 compete with? I don't really have a clue. It seems people race the LX6 against the RAC and FZ50 right now, so surely an LX8 would be too quick to race anything but itself? Fill me in here if you've done that because I've really only raced the LX6 against other LX6s.

Perhaps, if the LX8 were to be included, one of the other LXs should leave ...

Dude seriously! I said "if" and "perhaps"

True, I was just using the Caterham power range as an example.

Quote :140hp, 200hp, 260hp

Ok, I was just reposting to a thread that's bascially a duplicate of an older thread. These were just suggestions, right now it's 140, 190, and ??? (what was the LX8 going to be?). I only suggested 200 instead of 190 to make it 60hp increments. I've seen some posts about the top speed of the LX6 being 160+mph, which is a bit high, but since it's not a real car it could just be more aerodynamic than a typical Lotus 7 clone.

Quote :Jeff posted "bias ply slicks" again

Yes but it was a question about anti versus pro ackerman steering geometry. I've been very postive about the new tire physics and posted so right after the last update.
Jeffr : LX8 was planned to have 345bhp iirc

Still can't believe they killed it for the painfully slow UFs.

Hope it's somehow resurrected in the near future.

UF's make some VERY close racing, they are easy to drive, will take nudges, knocks etc. My prefered car for LAN parties where everyones a noob with a mouse!

(Oh, and seeing as i know love the LX6, LX8 please!)
A slick tired, 345hp, 700kg LX8 with limited downforce would have presented a real challenge to the GTRs. Oh wait, they wanted to groom the FZR to completely dominate the GTR scene, not some glorified Lotus 7.

I think the devs just looked at the LX8 and thought that it was too tricky and hard to drive with the physics at that time. So the LX8 went back to the drawing boards. And if you take something "away" you give something instead. As a result we got the UF1.

If you want, you can download the LFStweak and the proper LFS version just to test the LX8. Not even fun to drive imho.
LX8 was replaced by the UFR, not UF1.

With the vastly improved tire physics currently used, I don't see why not, especially if it's provided with tires significantly wider than all other LX's. Slicks (R2, R3 and R4), of course.

Back in the old patch Q days when the FO8 was almost impossible to launch in 1st gear with the default gearing (strange LACK of longitudinal grip from such wide and spposedly sticky slick tires). Not without resorting to the "handbrake trick", which was basically using the handbrake as a brake based TC and letting the car lauch at full throttle with the handbrake on to control wheelspin. The trick was to let go of it at just the right moment for maximum acceleration. Neither realistic nor fun.

now why do i know this only AFTER Q goes - i tried to work out how to get good starts in that for ages!
LX8 may be fun to compete with GTR's..
But don't let it be the best...

Not sure whether LX8 was supposed to have slicks, I guess not.

Yes, it was quite hard to launch on 1st gear but with proper throttle control you could do it, and it was pretty nice once you got it right. It defenately wasn't impossible. But using the handbrake as a TC system? I'm sure using keyboard as controls certainly doesn't help.

Well, I did try launching it with seering and pedal setup (albeit a prmitive 2 pedalled one), and yes, if you squeeze the thtotle the right way it could be done. However, the handbrake method is:

1. Amazingly easy;
2. Very effective.

You could replicate almost perfect launches with machine like precision (given default or lower gearing of course). It practically guarantees nice launches. The real trick is to get the handbrake release timing and actuation level right. This is basically human TC.

Reminds me of the old trick us off-roaders use to improve effectiveness of the rear LSD when needed (not very often if the LSD is a good one).

not really, at least from the lans i did you could late break, sure, trying to draft someone was... futile as it is soooooo slow, but it's still some fun (UF1@WE1 - flat out (basically!))

how useful

The LX8 was never public, so it didn't "go", and you won't be able to drive it anyway!
Do you mean that it wasn't in the game and nobody could've driven it?
Or was it in the game, but because some people disliked who couldn't drive with it, the LX8 got canned?
#48 - Jakg
was never in, or at least was in a Dev+Beta Tester only version the public never got
The LX8 was in LFS during some gaming expo. There was a video posted of it, but all the guy did was go down a straight then spin the car on purpose. I've got the video somewhere on my system ...

What a waste of a such a great, fun to drive car.
