The online racing simulator
crediting system

I have the spare time, just not the patience. I generally always make mistakes in a lap and can never usually have a clean lap ...

Lets say you'd need about 1000 points to get the TBO class, 4000 points to get the LX's... 50,000 credits to get the BF1.

Ack! Most definitely not! I race LFS as what it is intended, an Online Racing simulator. That could take forever as racing online does not guarantee you a podium spot. I think it would be ridiculous to force people to play around offline in order to drive everything they are entitled to as a paying customer.

Quote from nutty boy :People would not be able to complete the tests, would get bored because they can't get better cars, then go off LFS altogether. You'd lose players.

Yup. You'd surely loose me if I have to waste time playing LFS offline when I want to be racing LFS online.

Quote from [RCG :Boosted]easy example Gran turismo. u need to earn cash to buy better cars (or complete tests to drive in some events), so u have to learn to drive good with ur current one. does that make ppl quit the game? no..as they want better, faster cars, so they keep going.
why should it be different in LFS?

Because that is what that game is. GT4 is a game where going through the ranks is the game play. Completely different concept to LFS.
ok...stop riding on gt lol.
it was just an example.
75% of all games (any genre) work that way.
and they get sold! and played!
of course it shouldnt be an ridiculus amount of points (or tests) but dunno lets say like 100 points for the next higher class car(s) and u would get like 25 points for a 10 lap race.
in the next class u would get only 15 points, and so on.
so u would need to practice the harder cars more.
sounds good to me. we would have alot less drivers without (or low) experience , less crashing / ban whining, and more fun (competive) races.
I like the idea of having some kind of online experience system. Say, once you have driven x miles in the FO8 you can move up to the BF1 - online - but you can drive any car you want offline or on servers that allow it.

If I've just unlocked LFS, why should I have to work my way up? Who cares if I want to mess around offline with the BF1?

I would hate to see the cars completely locked away again. When I came from GPL, F1C, RBR etc. to S1 all I did was race the AI around Fern Bay RallyX Green in the RB4 to get the credits. If I knew that system was in GTL I would never have bought it - luckily there is a file for unlocking all of the cars.

I get satisfaction from winning races ( ), not earning electronic money!

Any driver with even a slight amount of skill could rip through the current tests in no time at all and hence unlock all the cars.

So the question becomes... Is it worth up to 1 hour of your time passing the tests (One time only) to stop noobs from getting in cars like the GTRs or BF1 and causing chaos online.

A noob will find it easier passing the tests than getting the credits in the old system WHILE learning some basic car control as well. Lets face it, with the old system you got a MAX of 48 credits for a win against 3 Pro AI on 3 lap race. This means you needed 7 wins to get the first car unlocked. Say 5 mins per race that is 35 mins to unlock the first car with the old system and many hours to unlock the whole range we have now.

AT the very least it should be possible to configure a server to allow anyone or limit to those that have passed a task.

People have said "but I only get a small amount of time to play" etc etc. If thats the case it is BETTER to have a locking system because you will not be up against people that are unable to control their car and hence have a BETTER time online.
I think it would be worth it. You need to spend time in the first place getting used to the sim anyway, so I can't see how it would be too hard. Surely the tests would only need to be simple anyway - not-particularly-fast-but-okay reference lap times for each car and basic racing etiquette.

Maybe there could also be another, more difficult set of tests requiring, say, faster lap times and more distance covered online. That would allow more elite races... almost like league racing, but still on public servers
Im all for the credit system being reintroduced , but maybe instead of unlocking the next vehicle on the list, just a speicifed amount to get a certain car, this i think DOES help with the teaching of how lfs should be played , racers of equal skill and experince and preference being close together would help those to adjust to the LFS difficulty curve and community.

Having the AI in place and ready is another issue but as before racing AI is one way of earning creidts , same with lessons.

I do hope its re-introduced at some point.

Quali is a waste of time for public races, IMO. It takes too long to organise for the amount of people and laps. Also, some people may be "safe" but slow, and if midrace join is enabled..

The training system might work though, and nobody would have to do it every time, if the progress status is stored on LFSW (or w/e, i.e. not on the user's PC). It would have the advantage of 1) allowing all the combos to be driven in LAN and SP 2) not allowing utterly dangerous drivers online 3) not having to do the training things every sodding time your PC dies on you.

But the training content would have to be objective, interesting, not time consuming, be aimed at driver attitude as well as technique, etc.
