bad Language auto-kick
I've noticed recently that people coming onto servers and start swearing constantly. It's now getting beyond a joke, every now and then, OK. But there's some people out there who are constantly going on at it, and when there's small kids around the house (I can't be the only one with that here - my mum is a childminder) they often come and see what I'm doing and get very interested and watch... I was racing in a server a few days ago and one of the kids came to find out what I was doing, someone didn't send someone else a setup and they started swearing "f--- you, you f---ing f--" or something along those lines... I saw that and very quickly alt-tabbed onto the desktop! A very narrow escape!

when I used to play Delta Force - Black Hawk Down, bad language wasn't a problem at all... there was a server application that auto-kicked anyone who started swearing, and I think it's a very good idea!

so my improvement suggestion is this, Implement an auto foul language kick, with customizable words so words can be added by server admins easily, saved in a .txt file. make it a server side option so admins can choose to turn it on or off... even an auto word censor would work.

I don't want kids parents complaining to my mum that they've learned a bad word because of me playing a game. I never used to have the problem, because I rarely saw people swearing on servers, but as the community has grown, it's becomming a much bigger problem!

anyone with any better ideas for this (I mean real ideas, not 'don't play when the kids are there') post here, or anyone who agrees, I suppose you can post too!

You could block messages as a temporary solution, its the minus (-) key to block/unblock if you didn't already know.
kl**tzak; l*l, k*ttekop, z*k, m*ngool, d*biel; e*kel...

please incude all swearing in all languages... And then put them in a readable textfile, so I can brush up my foreign languages
You can brush your insulting skills up with insultmonger
+1, but not right after the first time.

so, like:

guy: ****
Swearing can get you kicked
guy: ****
guy: ****
guy stop swearing, or else kick.
guy: ****
guy kicked.

So also with chatfilter
Definitely +1, but

I think that auto-kick is too tough for this. Can you imagine a number on f*****s clicking CONNECT right after they were kicked for their language? And tons of message like "Cant **** - new player is connecting". And giving a ban just for one f-word is really too much of punishment.

IMHO would be best something like a chat filter as someone posted above, which will block the whole message containing bad language...

Well, maybe 3 times in a row auto-kick will make a 24h ban..?

Start a vote-ban, explain to others in short words. I guess the majority will support the vote...
^^true, but many people are busy with racing, not with the guy that must be banned...
oddly enough
if this game was sold in the shops, it would either have to have a filter or have a warning about the risk, many games with a chat feature have a warning in the text files somewhere to cover themselves.
+1 i agree to this beacose there is many people who just doesnt quit swearing...

Prepare a "Fkey"-message something like " Please watch your language or prepare to get banned!"
If the person still carries on, save the replay and send it to the barricade (explain in short words).

Then its up to "us" (the community) to handle this. :splat:
I´m quite sure that a short ban, lets say 2-3 days, will do the trick...
I agree, there's no need for offensive language on servers. Perhaps it will help people express themselves using more eloquent language.

Agreed. As if we don't get enough 4 letter crap almost everywhere these days. And incessantly swearing kids these days could REALLY use some English lessons.

Ironically you have used a word there which is commonly considered to be swearing

Kids?

+1 for this. its already available to do so in mods such as LFS Lapper.

I would set the filter to "no claims" and "drift server" then.

What - exactly - is the point? AFAIK it can be done with LFS Lapper.
+1. Don't see why not.

Although I'd mod the idea slightly so that they get a 30 sec mute for the first 2 uses then a 12 hour ban on the 3rd. That'd hopefully stop them.

I can understand swearing IRL when someone does something to annoy you, but you should have calmed down enough by the time you're typing to be able to form a proper sentence.
Quote from Funnybear :I F**'ing think you should be able to f**king swear where ever the bl**dy h*ll you F***king want to. Freedom of F***ing speech I say. No more F***king censorship, B*ll*cks to all s**ding that I say. Sc*ew the T**sing fat W**kers who dictate to me what I can and can't B**ody well say. D**n them all. D**n all them fat T***pots, the C***s, the G***s, the W****ry, T*t F***ing, A*** probing, G**, S*** headed A***holes!!!

Sums up what I think about swear filters.

The only thing swear filters do is create the S****horpe problem.

I did search it, but I didn't search 'swearing' maybe i should have

But as I said, this filtering is the thing that should be done by a client, because it must be language dependent. And IMHO it should be an option...
(personally I don't like censoring, but if someone is getting too annoying and overusing swearing on my server, I'll kick him myself ).

LFSLapper is not very good for that purpose - not only it is usually used as a server side app (it can actually be also used as a client !), but it can only act when swearing has already been used...

It would need to be totally optional (or as monk suggested: client side only), otherwise I wouldn't be able to play on my own server.
Definately +1

I'd go with 2 naughty words in 24h = kick. do it twice in 24h = 1 day ban.
Would work with both, on a single server and the whole Master Server.
