anyone play it yet ??what ye think and can you play online with it thanks
Got it, and playing it now!

main things to watch out for...it is a resource hog...make sure you have a POWAH-ful computer, or dont bother with it!!

'Gameplay' is the same as any other FS, but the big difference in this release is the 'rewards' for completing the missions...only little badges and medals and stuff, but gives that added incentive to fly them.

GFX are amazing...IF you get the settings right! I had to play with the settings for ages until I got an acceptable balance between framerate and eye-candy. Check out the M$ website to see what they expect it to look like with DirectX 10 when its released!
This REALLY is a problem with FSX, an out of the box install will see framerates of between 5-10 fps, even on an Athlon XP-64 3400+ with a nVidia 6600GT card, but after tweaking, betting 20+fps and still looking good.

hint: turn down the 'Autogen Scenery' to a minimum. and set the water detail to Med-low (2)...that gave me the biggest hit in framerates!

As for online play, works Ok with Gamespy, according to the .nfo file!!
Works really good on my comp with all settings turn to the right except autogen which is turned to Normal. Online works beautifull though I still prefer Vatsim and IVAO. Also the new sounds on the jets are really good, but again I like the LevelD ones better. Overall its pretty fun and looks really good, anyway if you have a good computer and you are into Flight Sims I suggest you buy this.
wow, i looked at some screenshots, and wow!. It looks amazing, i'll probably be able to see my house due to the extremely populated area, i really want to get it.

My computer is almost grounded by it's requirement, having every option around medium low gives me 15fps!! LOL! And my fps go so low at the major airport that I can't possibly taxi safely on the runway. But the scenery is good if you can afford it, I am currently on a round the world flight now, From London, to scotland, to iceland, then across greenland and now I am in canada, great discovery all the way. However I now REALLY want a 512mb graphic card!
had it, uninstalled it (the demo ).
every time after i played my sound was messed up (double speed) what only a restart could fix. microsoft.... illepall
Its great if your computer can handle it. I'm on an AMD 4800+ with nvidia 7900 GS card (i know budget version but.. still 256 bit 256mb...) HAve all settings at medium high and get 25+ FPS. Online is ok. Much prefer Vatsim. used to control there anyway so i should try and get back into it.

Although i have FSX, at the moment i am still using 2k4 mostly simply because on that i can crank the graphics upto the Max and still get 60FPS.
Too sensitive for me, maybe If i invested in a joystick. But yeah, its pretty fun.
played the demo... loved it... though its very fps heavy on my comp (which is a shame) but if i get a better computer... some more cash... ill get it along with a nice joystick
Have it, play it, playing it, love it 50%, would love it 90% if I would have the best computer.
to big to download, dont wanan go on smallband
I only get around 20-25 FPS in FS9, so I doubt I'll be able to run FSX at all. Maybe I'd be able to configure it for a good FPS, but FS9 would surely look better.

I've been flying at wspilots.com for about a year. Many of those guys have moved on to FSX and we were all flying together last night, FSX and FS9. I don't understand the comments "I like Vatsim better". Vatsim is only an online environment. FSX isn't mainstream enough for them to move to it yet. There might be some compatibility problem that doesn't allow them to run both versions. At wspilots.com, it isn't as strict of an environment as Vatsim is. We do ATC sessions occasionally when someone posts one, but generally it is free flight or run the rotating hoplist tours on the servers.

The owner of wspilots.com has a pretty amazing machine. He spits out some pretty impressive screenshots. I'm on the site now trying to load some of them up... These are all FSX screenies on a true user's machine. They are slightly compressed due to the uploading to the website.

maybe upload the screens on imageshack
btw i dont have a really fast pc but i could run it with about 30 frames eith pretty high settings already.
I'll stick playing flight simulators, not this artificial nonsense. Does anyone know exactly how many ISI employees work at MS?

Oh, was that for me? The images aren't mine. Guess you have to log on, eh? Sorry.
I hear the newer demo is much better than the first one. I'd like to have a look, but I've got about 1mb left on this months download limit. I'll have to wait a few days..

Anyone tried out the new demo?

Is there anyway you can find out how much you've used as i'm on the basic package and download a lot of stuff so it would be interesting to see what i actually use.
thanks everyone for the reply and what way does the online play work do you pair up for someone acriss the world and play co pilot and pilot or what

X-Plane ftw!

Quote : 'rewards' for completing the missions...only little badges and medals and stuff, but gives that added incentive to fly them

That sounds cool though. I haven't flown for at least a month I guess because I'm too goal oriented and it's too much work to try to figure out "something to do" in X-Plane. I'm bored of flying from my hometown to other towns I know. The global scenery just compounds the problem; it's overwhelming! I need some missions - so I can get on and have something tell me, "Ok sir, I need you to fly from Sao Paulo to Chili ASAP! GET IN TEH AIR SIR NOW!" "Roger that over and out!"

Maybe I just need to join some kind of X-Plane community :/

Usually your ISP has a webpage you can visit which can show how much you've downloaded for that month. Give them a call/email and they should be able to point you in the right direction..
would like to say to all those wanting a 512mb card .. get the 256mb version ... and o/c it a lil bit .. a 512mb card has about 2fps max improvement :O

and ... I got a Pentium 4 3.06ghz, 1gb Ram and a X1900XT @ XTX speeds, I will buy it when I can, will it run ?

I've ran a comparison between mine and my mom's computer as well (mine being a laptop!)

Mine is running Intel Centrino 1.8ghz, 1G of ram, 128mb video ram.
my mom's is running Pentium 4 3.2Ghz, 512mb of ram, 256mb video ram.

Despite having less ram I thought her system will walkover mine easily, however it actually ran faster on mine!! in terms of loading time mine wins as well, and her's is a reasonably new PC so nothing should be messed up, I was thinking about building a new PC however I am not so certain now.
PC specs isn't everything. My old system was a P4 2.5GHz with 512 mb ram and onboard Intel graphics chip sharing 64 mb. Something smoked on the motherboard so I picked up a new off-the-shelf system. Athalon 64 3500+, 1 gig ram and ATI onboard chip sharing 256 mb. My old system smoked the new one at first. It was all due to settings and all the crap that comes pre-loaded on a crap Compaq. It took me 2 weeks to configure it and dump 30 or so unneccessary processes that was running automatically. The difference was 34-40 on the old machine and from 10, yes 10 FPS in stock form on the new machine to 50-80 fps depending on how I set LFS up now. New off-the-shelf systems have so much crap loaded up automatically at startup it's ridiculous.

I'm playing hookie from work today. That's why I'm up so late.

Thats one reason I always build my own, that and the price!

Is that all??? I'd start looking for a proper GFX card pronto...I'm running Athlon 64 3400+, 1 gig Ram, and a GeForce 6600 GT, and getting 140+ at 1600*1200!!!
