Hello ive been playing live for speed for a while
But when i try to start a local network game i enter my ip choose the defult port.. then when my friend from about 10 houses away tryes to join it gives his an error that says ip is not valid or something alog the lines of that.. I am running a wireless conection on my lap top , which is hooked up to another computer in my house.

any help is apreciated
LFS only accepts LAN IPs in the RFC1918 range:
1. 10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255 (10/8)
2. 172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255 (172.16/12)
3. 192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255 (192.168/16)

If you want to make an online game, which isn't on any of the above subnets you must use the master server.

You may wish to take a look at this thread:
http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=9572

Whilst it focuses on dedicated servers, a lot of the testing and firewall / router settings are the same for full client servers.
I have in IP in one of those ranges .. i also heard that i need my local IP or somthing like that .. i just found out my ip from whatsmyip.com

go Start>Run>IPConfig

Remember you need to be on a LAN, whatmyip.com is for the Internet, and you cant conect via IP over the Internet
I think I have found your problem, you are trying to play LFS S2 stuff...

If you set LFS to LAN server with Demo content, LFS does not require RFC1918 vaild IP. If you wanna play LAN S2 game, than you need RFC1918 valid IP.

So, stop cracking and get a licence.

BTW, are you sure you are on LAN with your friend? I bet you arent....

BTW2, Scawen is pretty smart that he made this, it is the best way how to prevent a lot of crackers playing online. I know the way how to run cracked LFS S2 online without "real" LAN, but dont expect I will reveal it....

he might be madcat [color=white]i really think he is, but im the cracker police![/color
Dont think be so harsh though, he might be on a lan, but he put in the ip whatmyip.com gave him (which is his internet ip, not his LAN ip), which explains why it didn't work
If he doesnt crack, why he just didnt make a Private demo server?

Quote from MadCatX :If he doesnt crack, why he just didnt make a Private demo server?

because perhaps he misunderstood and clicked Network by accident?
Actually before you accuse me of cracking, why dont you hear my side of the story ( because i know how much you people on these forurms like to accuse people of stuff). I actually have played a number of war games with my friends around my area on lan. And let me tell you its a totaly diffrent experience. I hate lag especially on racing and war game, and by playing with people in my area on lan i find that its alot less laggy.

thanks

i didn't accuse you, just that you actually need to BE on a LAN to do it, because it sounds like your not
servers
hey all

i got a problem where 90% of the servers in the
server list are around 700 ping or more.

ive never had this problem b4 patch U.

it cant b my connection as i have 8mb

and everyone esle see's the servers as like 60 ping or so.

All the other games i play such as call of duty 2 have great pings
its just lfs :/

please help if possible

Thx

Just because you have an 8Mb connection, doesn't mean that its not your connection.

Your connection maybe too high speed for your line to cope with, resulting in a bouncing line, or high packet loss. Your ISP may have overloaded routers. Your local exchange maybe overloaded during the times you play LFS (assuming its different from CoD). Theres quite a few possibilities.

As for why other games have good pings, this could be affected by the difference in "network distance" between CoD and LFS servers, and if you are using an overloaded network then increased distance, or servers on different networks may respond more slowly.
Help?
ok tday i tried searching the servers again on LFS
and the servers were great ping 30,40,50ms etc

but when i tried a few hours later (without changing any settings or anything) it was back to normal and server pings were way high.

this happens occasionaly and i dont even restart my computer or anything it just happens randomly with LFS.

Any chance you could be a little more specific with these times?

At a guess you're trying at "peak" UK internet usage times - this is usually a sign that your network (i.e. ISP) is oversubscribed, or your ISP is throttling specific port ranges at these times.
i tried it around 12 oclock midday and it was fine

then at 4pm the servers were pingy.

Sounds about right. 4pm would just about correspond with the kiddies coming back from school, and the slackers (governmental staff) getting home.

Out of interest, who provides your internet access? PlusNet by any chance?

Ouch....
Ouch you say?

@Mustang GT-R: If you feel wrongfully accused of cracking, then sorry. But firstly, there are lots of crackers around here - some of them pretty dumb and cheeky - and some of us goes mental because of it. Secondly, hosting a LFS DEMO server CANNOT give you a Invalid IP error, trust me, I have tried that.
So there are only few thing able to cause this. First one is clear and already mentioned. Second one is that your LAN uses some really strange IP ranges(quite unprobable because other games are working OK to you). And the last one, is the host configured properly? Do you have set it as a LOCAL and not as Internet? You may also manually configure host IP. Change it from AUTO to the real LAN IP.
Quote from MadCatX :Ouch you say?

I just said ouch because you pretty much caught him cracking, yes there are other things that could cause his problem but they seem pretty unlikely to me.

will the peak times really make servers
look 700+ ping to me?

isnt that a bit much?

my service provider is Force9.
theyre great, never had no problem or anything.
alright i figured out my lan ip and i create the game. i can play in the game with the three cars and ever thing i can chat and every thing but when he trys to connect it says conecting to host then it stops and goese back to the multyplayer menu..??? its verry confusing

Are your friend connecting via a lan, aka network cable ur running out the window? Or thru the internet?

If internet we go to LFS and setup server.

CHoose hidden so that the server does not go on LFS master server and others can't join or see it. If yuo want others to see it and be on master server list then choose internet.

Type in a Game name, for ease of connection just use plain text without any colours.

Set a password up if you like so that no one interupts your game and starts crashing.

Leave the IP to auto, this makes it easier for your friend to connect and to set up the server.

Leave the port 63392 otherwise you will just have headache.

Next you can set up the connection speed, I just leave mine on custom 2048 which is max, it really makes little difference apart from the calculations on the right.

Depending on your connection speed is how many people can play. I don't recommend any more than 5/6 max guests on an internet connection unless you have insane upload speed. If yuo don't know what your upload is then don't use more than 5 to be safe.

Smoothness should always be 6, otherwise whoever connects will have hard time controlling the car.

The rest of the optoins are self explanatory. For extra measure I have attached a screenshot of what your screen should look like for a server you are hosting and your friend connects over the internet.

Your friend just has to go to the Join Speciofic Game option and choose internet, then type in the same Game Name exactly as you typed in for your server. It has to be exact otherwise it will not work, this is why plain text works easier. If you set a password he should type that in too.

Click GO and it should connect, if still not connecting then we have some other problems like most likely blocked ports etc which I won't get into now.

Davo, did you read this whole thread carefully? He is trying to make a LAN game, not a Internet game...

But the way shoud be the same, just select LOCAL instead of Internet everywhere.

Problem you describet is most likely caused by firewall. If you are not sure how to configure it, then better disable it completely....

Yes I did and I think he'l get nowhere with a lan game since he and his mate or not on a lan down the street unless he has a very long cat5 cable out the window or a super duper wireless setup which I both doubt very much because this thread wouldn't exist. Anyone that can set up a lan with a mate down the street has the knowledge to setup a simple LFS server.

This is why I wrote up the internet server and LAN game would be very similar. No reply yet from our friend. I am thinking it's his wireless router blocking ports. Anyway I thought LFS ran like a dog overwireless?
i got wireless and if a dog runs fast then i could says my live for speed runs like a dog. i sorted it out I think
