Non serious racing game - suggestions?
Hi.

I love lfs i am a fan boy i will admit lol but for those nights when i dont want the seriousness of playing LFS i want another game. As 99% of games i play are racing games ( well only lfs but that takes 99% of my gaming time).

So can anyone suggest any arcadish, non serious pick up and play racing game. Preferably with some sort of objectives or something. I was looking at TOCA 3 or nascar 07 but i dont know anything about either.
Also would be for pc or ps2 preferably pc though.

rFactor if you dislike realism
TOCA RD 3 or GT4.

Or, if you want some PC freeware, GeneRally is great and there are real life cars and tracks that are less midget size available from the section on RSC.

LOL! I said arcadish not completely ficticious lol.

Ive got gt4 and hate it with a passion, thought toca 3 looked good though. Will look at gene rally

Anymore suggestions?

Edit: Preferably with realish cars lol not blobs :P - Thats why i was thinking toca 3 but i dont know anything about it or if they are any good ones that some people could suggest.

NFS Porsche?

Heh, I'm using the GTR2 demo for that

I was thinking about starting a similar thread a while ago, I was thinking about Test drive unlimited but it seems that the PC demo won't be available before February, or not at in this year...

GTR2 is pretty good for a random arcade racer. Just max out all the realism options, download some addon tracks for it and it can be quite fun at times. Not sure about addon cars or so but I guess it can be done...
I was under the impression though that gtr2 needed quite a good spec computer. But i will try it anyway.
I really don't know, it runs pretty well and smoothly in my AMD64 3500 + Geforce 7800GT. Not as smooth as LFS but still enough well. Haven't played a while, maybe I need more tracks

GTR2 ran smoothly on my PC (but suffered random freezes in the menu screens).
Im only running a 128 gfx card i REALLY need an upgrade but ah well cant afford it. So we will see if gtr 2 runs or not

Anyone know anything about toca 3 - is it any good? (non sim wise just as an overall game)
Slicks 'n Slide + 4-player split screen... that's where it's at biatches.
get trackmania its the single best arcade racer out there (right behind 4d sports driving that is)
Yup, Trackmania's wicked. Make your own tracks with shiploads of powerups, jumps, loops etc. Great fun
Flatout great fun, and better then flatout 2 imo. Also semi semi realistic physics in a way :X. Great for powersliding all over the shop.
A small list...

GTR2- runs better on my PC than rFactor. Somehow reminds me of everything I wished a racing game could be when I was 15.

Flatout- I've been playing a bit of Flatout 2 lately, but I've decided I like the original more. Smashing good fun. The music annoys the hell out of me.

Toca 3- Was playing this just before I became acquainted with LFS. It's pretty cool- crisp car models, fun racey driving. Don't really remember it that well... The Scottish trainer guy is a highlight!

Trackmania Nations- For me the pick of the bunch. Free, fun, imaginative, competitive and free! (imo better than the other trackmanias)

Can you use a wheel with this game? I searched on their forums under
common beginners questions, 15 pages and I didn't see any mention of a wheel. Still, it really does look cool.
Carmageddon
Carmageddon 2
Madman_cz: dont know how much time i spent on this 2 games... too much fun!

Plus i think that carmageddons games are old enough to find them on abandonware sites...

I don't believe so. I think it's a keys only job, but it still works well with just the keys.
Quote from Electrik Kar :The music annoys the hell out of me.

..why dont you just turn the music off then..

Thats the FIRST thing I do with every new installed game.
- music volume 0 %

Actually I have never understanded the point of having music in games at all.

..and yes... FlatOut /2 is great fun when you want to relax from LFS.

I have TOCA3 and quite enjoy it. Even with the sim options maxed out it dosen't quite feel right. The problem is that you do need to play through the career mode to unlock stuff if you want to play a specific mode. And sometimes the career stages don't have anything I want to actually drive. I don't play it much now, but I only got through about 16 of the 30-odd stages which unlock everything, so I don't have access to the most powerful cars.
Although I think you can play any type online without unlocking it, which is alright.

But like I said, it does sometimes feel like you can drive almost flat out all the time without too much of a problem on corners. In fact, the Caterhams feel like they're glued to the road, as opposed to LFS's LXs which have tyres coated with ice

But there are a lot of fun styles to try, like the monster trucks, Baja Bugs and the other 4x4 events. The last 2 I'm still hoping might make an appearance in LFS at some point.

And yes, the Scottish guy in the videos is good for a laugh
burnout 3
The music in the first flatout is excellent imo, and gives a great soundtrack to the destruction :P. Also yes carmageddon, still got my orginal game disk , also great music.

There are cheats for it. And also cheat gens (due to the stupid code number system). And, mods, feel free to remove the second sentence if they are illegal - I haven't a ****ing clue if they are or not.

You will find the zen-like appeal of 40 polygon cars
