The online racing simulator
I love how nkp and LFS are both called "Online Racing Simulator" except nkp has a "Professional" in front of it. Somehow this slogan popped up in my mind when I saw the file was on megaupload. LOL.

I guess it should be "Professional racing simulator - Amateur development"

Priceless.

Something like that, but I have to say that I do understand quite well developer of NKP, he may have not all skills and understanding about how to put product out, but he has passion to make great product and he is doing what he can for it. There is lot of titles that are polished nice and are really a crap (NFS?), I really don't care about surface.

Hopefully online problems are now solved with new patch so that it really is possible to enjoy from racing as that is something great with NKP.
I really liked how fastest laps is not best way to race a race as that is case often in reallife, you have to take care of tires and from car too, specially shifting is great thing, flat shifters are punished hard with smaller cars

http://torttu.net/temp/nkpro.jpg I had to update this old pic.

Great... Filefront really sucks nowadays, got 2 kb/s.

LOL, just fecking brilliant idea to use free upload sites for main mirrors. Fits nicely with the whole developement style that "Kunos Simulazioni" still seems to have. I guess they have learned NOTHING about PR since March. Sad.

edit: at least this torrent works: http://forum.rscnet.org/showthread.php?t=272159
Right, it's certainly better, still not user-friendly enough, and still the multiplayer sucks ass through a straw.

Better, but still a HECK of a way to go to be anywhere near as good as LFS, still blatting the FTarget around Aviano is quite fun now.

Dan,
Downloading now, or I should say, for the last 35 minutes at a max of 72k/sec.

Oh well. I'm very curious as to whether the multiplayer improves ( i.e. I can play on line at all ).

The whole patch release has been very strange, but, the proofs in the puddin', and I'm close to being able to think about being 3/4ths done downloading it. Glad I'm not starving.
Quote from Rubenz81 :"Hey I just spent 2 days in Kyoto, guess what? No ring! Then I realised it was a race sim and not reality. Get a grip."

Ehm, it was a joke. See there was even the smile thingy
So are those spyware and everithing real? Or it's a safe download?

EDIT: Ryanry64 posts already answered my questions. going to download!

yep i was j/k too
major error with the download method, what a crazy thing to do to people.
Multiplayer seems to be working perfectly...

Until the part when you'd need to actually join the server. "SERVER IS NOT RESPONDING". Tried joining couple of different servers. What can I say, simply great job!
Tried it offline, in the FTarget thingy.

The car is so easy - didn't lose the back end once in 20 laps, despite several aggressive changes to the diff locking and some very ham fisted driving. And I mean very. Did spin on the grass once though. And understeered off a couple of times, but easily back on track with barely a lift.

Tried Newbury and the test track, as they are the two I know best from V1.0x10^03.

At 1280*1024*32*70hz with 8x AA and 8x AF (which is what I play all games at, and get 40fps in Half Life 2 with HDR, 160 in LFS, both on full) I get less than 25 in nKP with the 'detail' slider on default (which I think is one click or two from Full).

Quite simply the graphics engine sucks BIG TIME.

Because of the poor performance, which led to stuttering, delayed gear changes, steering lag, pauses and jumps (sometimes, with no visible delay, I'll just jump 50 yards up the road, and a couple of gears higher), I decided not to risk upsetting what few brave souls were online.

But the crossfade sound engine now works (didn't before for me), although I'll stick with stacatatatatatazao instead (what a stupid name for it).

Oh, and I rolled the car at the end of the 20 laps clipping a wall. The car jumped around COMPLETELY unrealistically (at least when you get thrown 100ft in the air in LFS it looks like a car flying 100ft in the air, not a predefined 'roll 720 degrees in 3 seconds' move), then landed on it's roll bar. The car remained 100% horizontal, despite the only point of contact being the roll bar.

There are some SERIOUS flaws in nKP. Some VERY serious ones. From where I'm standing it's 1 step forward (the game actually loads [well, it did once I'd filled in the resolution box, which decided to forget my resolution choice the first time, and so tried to load with no resolution at all]) and half a dozen steps back.

*goes to stand in Kid's corner*

*apologises to Kamkor for subjecting him to the torture that is Kunos vivid yet incapable imagination*

hey at least it doesnt sink anymore
so kid might become a nkp supporter after all
I think that this new patch has changed many thing much better, but I find there is still some odd thing happening in multiplayer, spinning cars, total chaos, but much less than there was earlier, multiplayer seem to be working rather well for me at least.

Physics have changed to better, it is really pleasure to drive, at least FF 1600 which I tested, don't know about wing cars, I don't use them, wings are for planes, not for cars, imo.

Force feedback is better than in LFS, really with dfp force effects are really good. Of course in LFS force is perhaps as good with Microsoft FFB wheel, but with DFP there is so much less forces in LFS and also curbs can't be felt when you drove over them with left wheels, unless there is massive weight transfer, so with dfp NKP has better forces, imo.

It is quite heavy so need powerful gfx card, I got under 40fps few times and I don't use any AA or AF things, my hardware is not so good, even radeon x850xt should be enough for sims, I guess.

Patch installation is something I did wrong without instructions, it is completely new install that is needed to do to new folder and then copy drivers and license folders to this new installation, when I did read instructions from rsc it worked better.

Lot remains to be done, I don't know if NKP will ever be as stable and complete product as others are, but it is nice to see progress has been made, it offers some good racing.
I'll take back my previous post... my problem was firewall software which I recently changed so my settings were still messed up.

MP is still unplayable because of FPS. Driving alone works just fine but MP is real FPS killer. Server had only 5-7 players and fps went down 30 fps occasionally and also steering lag started to occur at low fps. Even that I had everything turned to off or low (except view distance, at lowest setting I couldn't see the next corner). I admit that I have pretty low-end computer but I have 2x memory and better graphics card compared to the minimum requiremets (and Kunos said (or lied) some time before the 0.1 release in March that the min. requirements are actually recommended specs, seems like that's bullshit). Not hard to guess that the engine/netcode is probably anything but well optimized.

Ping is something between 200-900, because the game doesn't tell no freaking idea does those values mean metres, lightyears or milliseconds...

And I still don't like how the FF is trying to destroy my wheel. At first it felt like FF was a bit "smoothened" but I felt so because I was testing F2000. In FF1600/FF1800 the shaking is just so horrible that I can't use very high FF settings that's why I probably miss lots of feedback.

One cool new feature, that you can zoom and see the pitboard while driving over finish line by pressing TAB.

Overall much better, from a paying customer view this is now at "acceptable" stage but still it has so unpolished feel in general and it's lacking so many features. I don't see nKp future being very bright, it already took 6 months to fix this basic stuff and no one knows when Kunos starts to ask more money for updates (remember the "one year of free support and updates" license stuff?).
Went online to try things out - 9 pm local time - 10 people racing on 14 servers, 5 of which were in a passworded server.

Some points of interest.

The Non-stazzicato sounds never worked for me before. They worked after patch...after driving 15 laps, screen froze with engine sounds looping had to ctrl-alt-delete to get out.

Switched to stazzicato - much better sense of feedback - the previous felt like an on/off switch was being applied - but, the sound itself makes LFS sound 'meaty'. No more lock ups, tho.

Checked frame rate in single player - on front straight of aviano, in target - 200 + fps...wow...through first turn 150 fps...ok...onto backstraight 98 fps. Down to 80 at times, back up in the same areas at each point again.

Joined mutliplayer - fps down about 5 -10 on average - no other players on server. One joined - down a bit more, even tho he wasn't driving, and ended up quitting.

Running an AMD with 1 gig, Nvidia 6600.

Have to agree with other assesments - in Ftarget, literally no way to lose control, short of understeer through turns. Running a set capable of 1.24's ( 5 months ago), was doing high 1.25's and could not spin the car.

Could not assess what would happen with 5, 10, or more cars online, as noone joined the server.

I'd like to give the game a fair chance, but I don't have a great feeling after minimum involvement. I will try again.

Made me anxious to play LFS, however.
wtf is wrong with this game? i downloaded it (at 70 kb/s omfg) installed it set up everything wanna drive and then this happens?
u ask what happens eh? hehe.
well. i start the thing put in a gear and....cant steer? my front wheels are in the street?! my steering is working fine but the car doesnt respond.... watch the screenie that i took and u will understand
and why the heck my front wheels are white? eh....

btw its funny how poor the graphics look on the screenie, in game it looks alot better so wierd illepall
^ the torrent ran at 700kbps

i just did a few laps in the nkpro 1.02. catching slides is very easy, but the demo car seems to understeer like crazy . the steering feels a bit dull compared to LFS and DR, but maybe i just dont have ffb set high enough in profiler.

i gotta say... i prefer DR over nkpro at 1st impressions... but i will do a few more laps tomorrow.

sempron 3000+ @ 2.2ghz barton core, 1 gig 3200ddr, 800gto 16pipes.

in both games i ran at 1280x1024 2xAA and 8xAF
i am using DFP @270degrees in nkpro and at 400 in DR.
i get 65-95 fps when driving in incar view, i have fov set to 80 and seat moved forward as much as possible. probably around 80fps average. replay is stuck at 30fps.

in DR i get 85-110 fps in incar view, about 100fps on average. i get between 55 and 90fps when watching replay. most of the time its around 70

these are all with me just driving by myself.
hey kunos, fisher-price called and they want the alien hovercraft with magneto balls running on rails technology from the 70s back.
understeer/oversteer was a complete canned joke.
game is nothing different from what it was.

mussolini, an elastic is not a car.

No I used to have one of those alien ball bearing hovercraft, they were cool when I was 7, until I tried it in the bath.
oh well

Fanboy thing you know...

lets go all play rfactor then.
but with f1800 imported from netkar PRO
it will be realistic then.

You can't be serious with that comment. Are you really saying that LFS sounds more meaty than nk pro? Sorry to be rude, but are you deaf?

---
For me the more powerful cars feel the same like they felt in the last version, but I have driven just few laps so I there may be some very subtle changes, and I mean _very_ subtle changes. F1800 is still the only nice car, the others are just plain boring imho. I'll need to wait to next week before I can properly test this but at least the multiplayer seems to barely work where it was just painful last time. Still, not many people racing online. There are just so many little things that haven't been thoroughly thought out or implemented plus the minor glitches etc. all over the place.

Btw. does the FF slider work yet?
Quote from Hyperactive :You can't be serious with that comment. Are you really saying that LFS sounds more meaty than nk pro? Sorry to be rude, but are you deaf?

Not deaf that I know of. I'm referring to the stazzicato sounds, not the samples. The samples are definatly meaty ( somewhat absurdly meaty, in fact), but I don't feel that you get a lot of feedback from them.

The stazzicato sounds, which I was referring to, on the other hand, seem a bit more in the moment, but are weak....weaker than LFS in fact. Might as well be some guy going pptt pttt pttt pttt into a microphone.
