+ tintop car (for the InitialD skins)
+ coloured tyre smoke
Seriously, it seems that finally the idea of (more) proper slip curves got through, but from that video it looks like there's going so much wrong it hurts. Reading the bug report threads on RSC also suggests that the patch was really just about eliminating the online play showstoppers, yet alot of work is remaining. A post I read there, about how mashing the throttle in the F1800 saves you from a spin sounds scary, too.
Anyway, I'll have to judge for myself - is the new "patch" also a demo?
it is ... yet kunos still doesnt seem to think that it would be a good idea to let people see the revs os its almost impossible to shift ... especially if you care about your ears and/or sanity
I've been reading rscnet.org, other people have too huge FPS problems online. With hi-end computers specs (at least higher than mine). It's funny to read how some nKp players/fans just repeat the same thing they have been repeating since April, like "get a better computer, nKp is a uber-sim, there are no arcade options". They don't seem to realise that we are not whining about lack of "arcade" features but the lack of properly working game. nKp is like a car in a car factory which has only the car body ready but everything else is missing.
And that flatspot removed thing is just hilarious. I guess Kunos thinks that wasn't big enough feature to be mentioned in the readme changes list.
Joined mutliplayer - fps down about 5 -10 on average - no other players on server. One joined - down a bit more, even tho he wasn't driving, and ended up quitting.
Doesn't even seem to be completely related to computer specs.
Yes, those were my results yesterday. Tried again today. Joined a server with 5 people on. Did not even think to turn fps monitor on, I wanted to see if I could just race.
Did a few laps in practice. People were quitting and joining, or rejoining.
Everytime someone quit or rejoined, I got lag - the kind that either makes your car stop and resume some feet down the track, or, if I happened to be shifting, nothing would happen, suddenly I'd be from 4th to 6th and too low on revs.
Anyway, I stayed in, as prior to the patch I never saw the end of any session, and I did make it to the race. Started at the front and took off.
I drove 2 laps out in front, after the start, no cars were near me, occasionally 2 were visible in mirrors. On lap 3 a giant "Lost Connection" message appeared that would not go away. Lol. I assume it applied to me. As I was suddenly alone, but able to keep racing. During the qualifying, pit board said Position 5, Lap 0, for 7 laps in a row. After 'lost connection' I looked at multiplayer menu, server still running with 3 cars.
It seems better than prepatch, in that I could do SOMETHING on line, but
I've yet to complete a single pickup race. I have cable modem, and with 5 cars on line ( at most, I can't really keep up with the messages )...I should have to deal with a debilitating lag ? It's one thing when the car next to you dissapears, but when you car is freezing and resuming elsewhere....how are you supposed to enjoy the thing ?
My system is about a year old. If I'm supposed to upgrade it to enjoy THIS, I think I'll save my money. I can play LFS with a full field, and COD2 with 40 people on line without a hint of lag.
I fail to see what exactly is so complicated about this game that would make it such a hog.
I'm happy for those who claim it works great for them, but it's dirt simple business sense to understand that a) something's very wrong...somewhere... and b) you want people to be able to play the game you've developed.
If you don't care about the later, at least put a big disclaimer over the whole thing " This product shown to work fabulously on some mid-range systems, horrifically on some high-range systems. Reasons unknown. Your results will CERTAINLY vary. Buyer beware".
I'm trying to be reasonable, but it's frustrating to no end. I feel no motivation to keep trying. I don't give a fig if it's fixed in another 6 months.
EDIT: Wow, that was a lenghty text. I'll paraphrase it. "Don't Work For Me".
Another thing I love is how that Jaap guy (who the hell names their kid Jaap by the way? - I think they deserve a punch in the face for making up such a retarded name) says that "the only real bug left is the FPS bug".
And... there's no bug reports sub forum. If a sim's ever needed one, netKar is that sim.
We have the member that posted the drift video getting a response of "yeah, and?", he replies saying he's never seen a formula car do that irl, and that whenever he sees racing if anyone gets CLOSE to those angles they spin.
The fanboys reply "that statement proves you know nothing"
"But for what it's worth, NKP has the best feeling physics & FFB, nicest graphics (a few poor textures though) and offers the best environment for the most important area in online racing: quality of racing of your fellow drivers."
nKpro is still a source of great frustration. I was expecting something major with this patch, but it's minute. The multi is not great, it's now only just on the rosey side of acceptable, there are still stutters for no apparent reason, and an awful join lag which you can set your watch by. And the UI is STILL awful! (IMO) Leave the track to load a different setup preset?! Leave the track to save a replay!? etc etc etc I could go on, but it's pointless because it seems that someone somewhere thinks the way it is is the way it should be, so nothing will be done about it, even though I know all these problems were encountered by testers and reported repeatedly.
I was waiting for a patch to make me really like nKpro, but truly this is not it.
absolutely nothing thats not in there for 4 years. criticizing it today can be done by just copy pasting what was wrote 4 years ago.
what puzzles me is how can a turd float for this long and still gather a dozen of die-hard-im-not-good-on-any-other-sim players. sometimes i wonder if ppl just support it and even buy (!?!?!) it just coz they dont wanna eat their own words.
justice be done, some ate them, and set things straight. late is better than never. well done to them.
The FF1800 drift video isn't even that bad. I wouldn't say spot on of course.. But if you could tripple or double a real FFord's steering lock, add power steering and a 250 degrees turning wheel, you might actually do roughly that..
With the limits of a real FFord, of course not..
I have yet to try it; sofar NKpro has been a huge dissapointment so I'm not expecting it to be a lot nicer.
I've read on the nkpro forum that the people complaining are just ' guys coming over from other forums like LFS and rFactor, wanting to raise ****'
I guess that noone playing nkpro should have had any interest in, or played on, any other particular sim ? ( well, that would explain some things, but...)
It's irrelevant, in the end. The big thing that's changed after the 'patch' is that the die hard fans are more conviced than ever that life is great, and the people who were mildly to outrageously angry over the first release are now extremely to insanly angry over the results after waiting six months.
I'm curious as to how long it takes windows to recognize and display the
' there are unused icons on your desktop, would you like to delete them ?'
