Anyone a Hypercondriac?
I'm not sure if the title is in contex but i think i'm becoming / become a hypercondriac. Recently, i got pains in my chests and I kept working myself up about it, thinking it was every heart or lung disease under the sun. Even though i went to A&E and they checked me out, saying i was fine in that area and I had indegesgion/heartburn and possibly overworked my chest muscles (which would explain the pains) but i'm still worrying about it.

Then i got a weird cold/flu thing from my dad, sore throat, swollen glands in me neck etc yet i was still convinced it was some form of cancer. Its now gone but i occasionaly feel pains in me chest like the ones i went to the hospital about. Also, taking two weeks to see the ****ing doctor! Made my appointment on the 23rd Oct and i'm seeing him tommorow (the 7th) so that hasn't helped.

I've quit smoking, cut down on the shite i eat and drink (so you could call it a diet) and then all this happens and i've just gone mental with worry. Me mum says me bodys doing loads of changes because of quitting smoking and the diet, plus its that time of year for bugs to fly about and stuff.

I mean, looking at it all now i can see i was overreacting a tad, but still, everytime something different happens i worry. Anyone else like this? Or am i being completly OTT with the whole thing.

Recently (mainly cos of the amount of time i gota wait to see the doc) i been using the net to see if i can find what i got, and obviously using the net i find shit that dont even relate to me but i might look into the symptoms of what i find and i have one of them (like a cough or something) but loads of things have a cough as a symptom, thus i start to crap myself.
Yup, it all sounds just like what a pal of mine had, God rest his soul.

It's "hypochondria".

Quote from wikipedia :
"Hypochondriacs often require constant reassurance, sometimes from multiple doctors, family and friends."

You'll be alright.
But don't trust forums on this matter. If your doctor sais it's ok, the it is ok. We don't have many doctors here anyways.
Well anyone on a forum saying something is like my parents saying something... I mean now, I sat down this afternoon (before this post) and basicly thought to myself "Stop being a c**t, David" so i aint as worked up about it now. Also, after reading the last part on that wikipedia atricle (about self diagnosis on the net) is what i'm doing and i've kinda taken a step forward and not so worried.

Never, ever trust a doctor, well one but two or three. Specially this finnish so called healthcare is something where you really do like to get other opinion too, there is many doctors that really should not be doctors at all, but they got doctor title and that is what they are, it is very rare that they ever get fired and even if they make mistake it does not matter at all.

Every town has at least 1 bad doctor, some have several good ones too, some none, what ever you do don't go to surgery at Lahti, they will mess it...

Your Mum is right....Mums have a habit of 'knowing' when their kids are REALLY ill..comes from years of listening to: "I dont wanna go school today, I'm poorly!"

:ambulance
Hehe yeh theres always been a hunch in the back of me mind saying "Mums right" It's amazing how you say what you got to them and they know whats wrong, then you ask about another thing and you get "I'm not a bloody doctor"

To put it better: "never trust your insurance company's doctor" . Though it would be even better to say: "never ever trust your insurance company". They are bloodsuckers in purest form. Of course everyone should ask for 2nd or even 3rd doctor's view if he suspects something, it may get expensive but... And yeah, there are bad doctors as there are bad bosses and bad social workers. Mess with them and you will not only lose your health
Just follow this simple rule: if it hurts, cut it off.

I just pray you're not prone to headaches.
relax mate trust the doctor !!!if he said ur ok then you must be ok
start doing stuff that takes your mind away from thoughts.

from your achievements you will gain self confidence and your fears will stop.

never idle.

do.
Today I have had pain in my chest for the past 6hrs. For the past 2hrs I have had slight shortness of breath. My neck also has been hurting on and off. I am so scared, and my parents are calling me a hypocondriac. I honestly am scared of dying... My mom is going to make me a doctors appointment tomorrow, I hope that this is nothing serious. BTW, I'm only 15, I dont smoke, and am in otherwise good health.
Rockbigdave and wheel4hummer, it sounds like both of you are suffering from anxiety, which I should know, since I suffer it constantly. Why? Because I dont put things into perspective. Just relax, do an activity that takes your mind off of your worry, and just remember God loves you.
Quote from jayhawk :and just remember God loves you.

And those that God loves He takes to Heaven the first chance He gets.
wow xaotik - you're such a happy guy with sane thoughts illepall
Giving up smoking can be bad for your chest, as you have to ajust to a new way of breathing, and this leaves you open to chest infections and such like
FFS get some excersice, it solves a HUGE amount of problems.

I remember being rushed to hospital once with a suspected heart attack, it turned out I just had a blood infection which gave me chest pains, this gave me the scare I needed to turn my life round.

Since I changed my way of life, I have yet to be ill, when I used to be ill all the time.

Dan,

Woah, man - you're 32, that's really young for any such things.
Although I did have a friend drop dead from heart failure when he was about 25 - worst luck possible as he had served in the special forces and worked as a construction worker after that, yet no doctor had ever detected that one of his valves was messed up. Drinking and physical excersion on his birthday party finally did it in one of the most unnerving scenes ever.

Since I cycle a fair bit (~10000km/year minimum) I get my heart examined every two years (incase of cardiac hypertrophy) - they got some really impressive utlrasonic scan machinery nowadays.

And yeah - I agree with danowat, sounds like you guys need to get out and exercise some, even if it's just walking around.
Exactly, which is why I changed my life, I was 23 stone, unfit, and unhealthy, I am now 15 stone, fit and healthy

Dan,
I converted my weight from lbs to stone, and I only weigh 6.5 stone. lol

i have headspins periodically not very often but it never ends.I was very frightened when the doc wanted to see a brain tomography of my head. But thanks god it was clean.then we did many tests including blood test and something. They were all clean. Now it's been about a year since the first incident, i still sometimes get the headspin. Maybe i'd go to a psychologic (or whatever it is called) but i learned to live with it.it is slowly fading out i can feel it. And it happens after a stress-full busy day.Once i was so angry and nervous all day i had that chest pain and hardly breathe. I knew it was something to do with the stress so i kept calm and waited till it ends.My old boss said it was starting of panic attack, he knew it because he had the same problem.i'm not worried at all.illepall

This is life, everything can happen.Just be brave.Whatever happens we'll stand there and fight.

and, stop worrying. Trust the doc.
Just been to the doc and he said that my pains i get are from indegesgion (which i been getting latley) and also *hope no-ones eating* my loose shit is from quitting smoking as i recently aslo had lots of gas. So, i'm happy now.
good to hear
i read the first part, and i olso have pain in my chest sometimes, like when i breath in or out i have a little but annoying pain, could even sleep in normal possition cuz of the pain i had in that possition(on my side)
