Turn a compatible patch incompatible to improve balancing of cars
Hello.

I want to suggest to use otherwise compatible patches to change the specifications of some cars to improve the balancing within classes. That would of course make the patch incompatible and would void the worldrecords for the altered cars.
An example would be to increase the weight of the FXO to a similar measure as the other TBO cars, which would mean that the FXO hotlaps would have to be removed. Note that only the FXO hotlaps are removed, the others stay as they are.
Similarly the FZR could be tuned to a level nearer to the other two cars.

That's of course just a suggestion. Personally I would appreciate such a step a lot. And by a lot I mean a lot.

Balanced cars are an important thing to have. But balancing them out is not a very important thing right now. The physics are not done yet, so the balance constantly changes as the physics change. I find better to balance the cars at the same time as the physics change. A incompatible patch just for balancing cars is kind of pointless, because the WRs and setups need to be done again and the balance may just as well be ruined again by the next physics patch.
id like to see an option that the host can setup the cars with extraweight so its even.
but not in general, all time.
I think for now it's case of waiting and seeing what we get in patch W next year.

Next year (patch W) as in Januari(ish) 2007, Juni(ish) 2007 or November(ish) 2007?

Or is there totally nothing about it?

You've waited this far, I'm sure you can wait another 6 months or a little more...

Considering Scawen probably has only the vaguest ideas, I certainly don't have one. If I had to place money, I'd put it inbetween January and June nexy year. It can't be any sooner since V patch still looks to be a couple of weeks away and we know (well, expect) W patch to be at least a couple of months work (Scawen's own words).
I have readed during lastest day that V patch will be a compatible one.

So all the things related to "Hardcore mode" that scawen said about 1 months ago will not be implemented onto V patch?
+1, though I can't see this happening. I even have some doubts about the next patch. There has been discussions about adding ballast feature into LFS and I see this as almost perfect solution to the problem. I know a lot disagree with me with the ballast, so I'm not pushing it further .

The sad thing is, the TBO and GTR class can't provide equal racing on online servers. The FZR and FXO are way too fast for their opposition. And I'll probably drive only the FZR or FXO because of this. People are pulling under XRT/RB4 WR times in their FXOs with just couple of hours practise. Of course you can say that LFS isn't finished, why to put effort into balancing the cars when the physics changes may wipe off the small balancings? Or then the FXO and FZR are meant to be the fastest, easiest and most forgiving cars.

Personally I read
"LFS isn't finished yet, so..."
as
"<random fanboy comment here>"
because, as far as I can see, LFS is meant to be playable and enjoyable at every stage. Problems that occur are getting fixed along the way, not ignored until LFS final in 2012.
We could have argued that we don't need to fix the high-nose bug because LFS isn't finished yet.
We can also argue that we don't need to fix the balancing because LFS isn't finished yet.
I don't follow that argumentation at all.

I hope no one takes an offense from my very downright reply.

Patch V will very likely just be the official name for the last test patch and will probably not contain anything different than what you've seen in the test patch forum.

I've been reading the test patch section but "Hardcode mode", what?
He means the setup where you have no driver aids at all(no auto clutch, brake help) and so on

Seems to me like the simplest solution. A slider on your setup screen for adding weight to your car. The amount of weight added will show up next to your car choice for verification, ie FZR(50) for an FZR with 50kg ballast. That way leagues can balance cars as they see fit.
Also at the end of the race:

Car:
FZR(50)

that would make things more clear...

But in Some combo's I don't think FZR needs ballast...
