a question...how to lock pages for being edited? (sorry for off topic but I've just set up a wiki and saw it while trying to edit the links!)

edit the includes/DefaultSettings.php file
change the line $wgGroupPermissions['user' ]['edit'] to false;
now noone can edit pages, but of course you want your sysops to still be able to edit pages:
add $wgGroupPermissions['sysop']['edit'] = true; to the sysop settings

Am I doing something wrong, every page I go to says it's been locked to prevent editing. I'm logged in, but I can't really do anything.

No I don't need anyone's name. I'll set it up for your soon and send you the password. You can give that password to whomever wants to help edit the translation.

Why make the french wiki password protected? I think anybody should be able to see and edit the wiki, even if it's not finished yet.

maybe when there's at least _something_ on it already. It's just that to me, it looks strange putting a French manual online that contains nothing. Imagine you're french and looking for a manual and hey you find it, but eh, it's empty!

When you see it's empty, you can fill it.

done, as a test, as i've never produced wiki content before

Now that we have so many wikis around, what about adding a link to the lfs main page?

i want to add an extra main link under the LFS Forum link. But this requires some gfx adjustments. Maybe this can be done along with the next patch. I'll discuss it with Tweak.

added that link and removed brazilian, at least for now. First let's get Portuguese going and then if the Brazilians want it, they can copy and adjust the portuguese one later on.

The reason I decided to bring this old thread back up is because I think we should work on the wiki/manual a lot. The manual has quite a lot of information already, important stuff. But what's wrong is that most of the stuff is written very unformally, which is in my opinion quite un-wikilike. Example of this is the wheels page (I started a talk page for it about this too).
Judging by the recent changes page there doesn't seem to very much activity on the manual either. So I wanted to remind you that the manual wiki still exists and it's far from ready.
