Quote from Bladerunner :Thats one reason I always build my own, that and the price!

I couldn't pass up $500 for the Athalon 64 + new monitor + printer. Needed it all. Very little funds as well. I couldn't build one for close to that price at the same specs. Or, I just don't know where to buy the stuff. I was on newegg.com mostly.

Quote :Is that all??? I'd start looking for a proper GFX card pronto...I'm running Athlon 64 3400+, 1 gig Ram, and a GeForce 6600 GT, and getting 140+ at 1600*1200!!!

You edited out the important aspect of my framerates, the onboard graphics chip. It is ATI and a really good chip for onboard, but it's still onboard. I would fully expect to smoke my current framerate if I had the money to slap a real card in it.

Hehe. 12 years of perfect attendance at work. Down the drain because the oldest girl is in school now and bringing home all the germs. I'm sick, the youngest one is sick and at the doctor's right now. I have to be here for the oldest to get off the schoolbus. New management and the took away the incentives for not missing a day of work. The plant has been open for 12 years, about 20 of us had perfect attendance since the beginning, now this year, about 15 of us have used our sick days since there is no incentive over not using them anymore.

Wish I lived in the States!!

Our prices this side of the water would make you cry!
I get a lot of stuff from either Dabs.com or Novatech over here..if you really want to get upset, check out the UK prices for stuff!
"I'm on an AMD 4800+ with nvidia 7900 GS card (i know budget version but.. still 256 bit 256mb...) HAve all settings at medium high and get 25+ FPS"

Bloody 'ell. My 'games machine' recently built has a 3200+, 1GB RAM and a 6200 which desperately needs replacing and was only temporary. Kicks arse at LFS though.
Guys, if you're having framerate issues, check out this FSX tweaking guide,

http://ops.precisionmanuals.com/wiki/FSX_FPS_Guide

I've just finished downloading the newest demo, so I can't comment on how useful the information is.

nice graphics whn i play they are so sh*t
Not sure, but it's probably safe to say that some of these tweaking concepts could be applied to FS2004. Atleast the ingame options tweaks should give you some idea of how something's affecting performance, if you weren't sure before. I'm about to go through the guide for FSX... btw, the newer demo, available here http://www.microsoft.com/downl ... 8a76ef&DisplayLang=en

is much more stable and performs much better than the previous one. I think there's a couple new planes as well. Start here if you're running the (old) demo and having performance/stability problems

edit: I set my game settings to mirror those in the guide and tweaked the config. One thing- I couldn't find [main] heading in the config file. I'm guessing that's reserved for main game. Anyway, performance has improved, I'm getting quite smooth fps now with the occasional stutter, which isn't really a problem. I have to say, what a beautiful looking sim. The detail is quite astonishing, it's incredible actually how much stuff they've been able to squeeze onto the screen. The effect of seeing little cars moving down the highway is a nice touch. Some nicely detailed models to discover... Wow, FS is really coming of age.

Pic below,
Hmmm, should have levelled off first...

Whats up sully watch your bloody language m8....and why arent you in school again???
its the midterm lol sorry for the language so do you what graphics card would be good
If you're planning to run Vista, then hold out for a DX10 card as FSX will be supporting it via a patch sometime in the future, and that should atleast bring in better performance but there might also be some graphical improvements.

If you want to get a new card straight away, I'm not really sure what to recommend. Definately anything around or above ATI's X1800 series or Nvidia's Geforce 7800 series. I have an ATI x800pro at home, and although it's quite good it cannot run FSX at a decent framerate with all of the available graphical options ticked..

what slot do you have (ie AGP, or PCI-E (PCI-Express)?

EDIT - DX10 cards come out in about a Week, then the prices on other cards will fall
Wait for dx10 cards for sure. Also as a side note, only the FSX Deluxe edition is updateable to dx10 afaik.

As far as the sim goes, i love it, im getting great performance (had to disable the autogen though) other then that everything else is maxed out at 1680x1050.
Sorry to bring back this thread, but I have a problem in FSX that I though some of you might be able to help with (this also happened in FS2004 and FS2002).

The problem is that when i have both my joystick and my momo connected (I use the pedals as the rudder) the game sends the force feedback to the wheel instead of the joystick. I've tried going to Control Panel->Game Controllers->Advanced and setting the joystick to the "preferred device" but that doesn't help. Also, I can't find a .cfg file in FSX where there might be an option to set the primary controller.

Anyone have any ideas?
thats a weird one , but try disconnecting your FF wire to your steering wheel if you havent already.

I am sure there will be a way to sort that problem out but i am not too sure of it.

you are LUCKY!

I tried countless times to do that with a MICROSOFT SIDEWINDER FF STICK and a MICROSOFT WHEEL/PEDALS..on (yes!) a MICROSOFT game...guess what..it never bloody worked!
Hmm... are they both USB? All you should need to do is check that both controllers are listed and work in Control Panel->Game Controllers, then open the game and go to Settings->Controls. You should find a drop down list where you can choose the controller and then set the axes.

Although, I have my wheel set as disabled at the moment cos currently whenever I make a sharp bank with the joystick, the wheel spins and falls off the desk.

Quote from Calum :try disconnecting your FF wire to your steering wheel

Well, that stops the wheel from moving, but it doesn't give the joystick the force feedback.
FSX demo
Tried the demo, was unimpressed. My specs are 3500+ 7900GS 2gb ram. Took some time to get running smoothly even then i was dissapointed by how crappy everything looks when your on the ground or flying low. the terrain really looks the best at altitude.

and then, after flying round for a while, skimming my wheels off the water (nice touch tht ) I said to myself....- "So where are the Guns?" :biggun:

If you want a real flight sim, that looks good at all altitudes, and has guns, explosions and dogfights :fence:check out Lockon/Il2 sturmovik

http://lockon.co.uk/ = nothing beats unloading high explosive 30mm shells into the side of an unsuspecting T80 from the comfort of your A10 and its 7 barreled gatling gun.

The beauty of FS isn't in the details, but in the gestalt. IMO other flight sims have never gone that extra mile in depicting the visual complexity of a natural landscape or a town/city the way that FS does. Pacific Fighters looks great and all, but it's really very simple stuff compared to FS.

I agree though that the guns do give PF an edge...
in fsx, if you fly high enough, you actually see the curvature of the earth, just an awesome detail.
