Yep I know but thats more for reporting bad language, racism etc.

You shouldnt be clicking that because slower222 and dOriFTER232 use the forum as chatbox...
In extreme cases of spamming or someone continually posting nonsense, I see no reason why you could not report the post. We'll let you know if you keep reporting posts that don't need reporting.

Some problems will always go unnoticed by the mods, if you see an issue that you think requires moderator intervention, and it doesn't get "sorted" in what you consider a timely manner (obv. some issues require more urgent attention than others), then click report. If it's been over 24 hours then we've probably definately missed it.

Who would make a post

Just to increase

their post count illepall

There are a few members who blatantly do this. We are growing very intolerant of their antics. People who repeatedly make uneccessary posts should take this as a warning.
Sheesh, Kiwis. Anything to make a point eh
Uhm, I was about to post, but I didn't.

...oh, well...

I'm still all for hiding the post count. I just don't see any use for it...

I think my post:day ratio has probably fallen quite a bit in the last couple of months, but that's just an ebb/flow thing for me I think. Perhaps since becoming a modster I've paused more often to consider the value of the post I'm about to make. Honestly not sure on that.

Tristan and Jaq are probably two people that most people would think of, when you say "high post count", but they are anything but spammers IMO. The frequency of posts is not what makes a spammer a spammer, it's the value (or lack there) of the content that determines whether a post is spam or not. I see both Tristan and Jaq as frequent and valued contributors to this forum, almost invariably with something to say that's genuinely worth reading. That's not to say that they're incapable of banter.. they're both great at it, and I enjoy reading flighty banter as much as I like reading a good book, especially at the end of the day.

The people that I think of as spammers generally have post counts in the low hundreds rather than thousands.. and the reason I think of them as spammers is because of WHAT they say, rather than how prolific they are.
Absolutely. Quantity does not necessarily mean ham in a can. Most spammoids I've noticed don't actually have post counts in the thousands - perhaps because most spammoids either: (a) have very little to say unless it's bollocks, and talking bollocks or annoying people can get boring rather quickly, especially if you have a short enough attention span to find pissing people off funny, or: (b) they don't actually last long enough to get very high post counts because people around here don't tolerate more than a healthy amount of bollocks for very long

"I have a dream...that one day my two little children will be judged not by the number of their posts but by the content of their posting..."

edit: ZOMFGZ check out my post count...I shall never post again!
(hears sigh of relief from the assembly)

edit: bugger. Blasted Kev made me post again somewhere else!
Quote from Hankstar :"I have a dream...that one day my two little children will be judged not by the number of their posts but by the content of their posting..."

Heh.

Woz - I know you're only making a point but it still makes the thread unnecessarily long. (not a telling off, just explaining my reasoning)
Id like to see Laps (or something) or Bob Smiths idea added with the post count. (hopefully letting others have a better understanding of the poster)

I don't feel the need to post often, normally by the time i get to viewing a thread someone has already typed my opinion.

Id love to see absolutely pointless or the identical posts deleted. Its only because i hate having to scroll through so many posts to get to something useful said

(I understand that the above statement would add far to much time to a mods forum administration)
How about some sort of post rating system? There would be a button on each post to decide whether you thought their post was helpful or not. Everyone would start out with a 'score' of -100, and every time 50% of the votes on a given post are for 'helpful' then the system would add one to their 'score'. Just a thought, because then the spammers would have scores of like -500, and everyone else would have scores above -100?

Or just get rid of the post count all-together.
Quote from Blackout :It's so hard to tell who has been around then, anyone who posts just to build up their post count should get a short ban, let's not get in to names but I'm sure we could name a few rookies who do that with post per day ratio around 10...

Eeerr, excuse me! most of my post have valid points in them or have actually got content in them, i made one stupid thread big woop.

Jakg's post per day ratio is 12.96 or something so have a go at him!
You do realise that the post you just quoted was made around 4 months before you joined the forum? So it wasn't specifically aimed at you.

Post per day only tells some of the story, since it doesn't reflect the quality of the posts at all, plus this forum does not use forum join dates, but rather LFS account registration dates. This forum started in August 2005 but there are plenty of users with join dates before that, but they cannot have posted before then. So the post per day figure is wrong for a lot of members.
You should be able to community flag posts, like craigslist. (Yes, it really works well there!) If one of your posts gets community flagged for a certain offense like spam, (above a predefined threshold) then you will receive a demerit. Gain enough demerits, and you get all your future posts run through a valleygirl filter.

Gosh, like, am I full of, like, good ideas or what?
There is the report post to moderator button.

/me gets gaffer tape to shut up anyone who emits bloody valspeak

screw you, he said if you were just deliberately padding your post count by posting - ie posting for the sake of posting - i do NOT do this
