I just had a rush of nostalgia and grabbed Deliverance, an old Corrosion of Conformity album from about 1994 (my old band used to cover their material). There are some killer tracks on that album, especially Broken Man and Senor Limpio. These guys were out-Sabbathing Sabbath while Wolfmother were still doing up their school ties
Ja, Ich liebe Rammstein! Please correct mein Deutsche if it's kaput
if you're into dance music, i'd suggest Blank & Jones or ATB - stuff like that, if you're into trance then Tiesto and Armin Van Buuren, or psychadelic trance then it has to be Infected Mushroom... they are just my personal tastes, i also have a good collection of 80s music
So you are into 'Rawk' music I take it. Well, if you want something different, search for 'Drum and Bass' and look out for anything containing 'Skibbadee, Det and Fearless'. Wicked Tings!
Ya kidding right?, so these people should make music for free just because YOU say so?, in that case then, all films, and software should be free, fool illepall
Please tell me how the right to say what you want has anything at all to do with grabbing music for free
I'm a musician myself and that attitude shits me. Music, like anything from 17kg of skanky cheese to an aircraft carrier, is created by someone. They have a right to get paid for it. Now, I'm not naive enough to think that people won't share my band's album with each other (if anyone buys it at all oh, we should get around to recording it actually :tilt - hell, most of my own collection in the 1990s were tapes of my mates' CDs (I bought all those albums eventually btw). But ripping an album is not a human rights issue like freedom of speech and it annoys me when people link them up like that.
Just my two cents
BTW we don't need to close this thread - this is a discussion we can have calmly without it exploding
Just to clarify: I want people to download my band's songs as they're from our demo. You don't charge for demos, that's just wrong! Also, I should have specified that I paid for the album Deliverance. Just so noone gets a mixed signal
I have never used limewire, and it IS stealing, regardless of how you dress it up, would you walk into a record shop and walk out with a CD?, same difference, its still for your own use
Go buy the following Albums from a shop dude. My current favourites out of stuff that most people won't of heard of.
Amon Tobin - Supermodified
Basement Jaxx - Rooty
Doves - Lost Souls
DJ Shadow - The Debut Album
Krafty Kuts - Slam The Breaks On
Aim - Cold Water Music
And anything on Paper Recordings or Grand Central Records.
No its not stealing or theft, that would imply you took something from the author or copyright holder, which you didn't. How some people can say downloading music is theft of the same type as someone who breaks into your home, is beyond me. But it is copyright infringement and still bad, immoral & illegal.
Personally, I'll freely admit I download music from the web (not Limewire though..what a load of junk), if the album is good I'll purchase it legally, if its not I delete it. The only money the artists loose from me is that I don't spend money on crap music anymore. You may not agree with this but I pay more for music than I probably otherwise would if I couldn't see if it was any good first.
IMO piracy is making a duplicate of an intellectually protected / copyrighted item, whatever it may be, without the consent of the copyright holder. Whether one makes money out of it or not, it's lost revenue to the (c) holder, but even that's not the point:
A copyright holder has the right to allow free distribution and similarly they have the right to demand return for their produce. If you don't like the latter, boycott them.
Again, just IMO. The law may only punish you if you make money out of it, but then, just because you *can* do something doesn't mean you should.
Limewire is a sharing program, to download music from it you are sharing from someone else. Sharing could be giving it as a gift, that music was paid for at one stage! Using limewire and other P2P sharing programs is not so bad.
If you go to a friend's house and you listen to music, watch a movie or play a game, then you are not breaking the law. If you had to pay to listen/watch/play to that friend's music/movie/game then it would be breaking many laws....
So if you dont pay for the music/movie/game off limewire then it could be said you are getting it from a friend in an environment like a house! Your not paying for it, so is it bad. Certainly sounds legal!... DON'T bite my head off if some of you dont like that idea!
I personnaly have used limewire and other P2p so...
no its not, you live in ireland so its against the law to share copyrighted files of any description.
however, if your only downloading the files you are unlikely to be prosecuted (it's still illegal though). the athorities only seem to be worried about the people who are "sharing".
