Class 1 GTRS on Blackwood reverse. This isn't a particularly serious race, more a case of me practising playing with the camera angles. This clip features loads of magic floating cameras, sorry if that's not your thing, but hey it's not another drift movie [no offence to those who actually make good drift movies]

Running time 3:40. Compressed to 640x480 25fps WMV [which isn't great quality] I only wish I could post the high quality DV.avi but that's 778mb

If anyone knows of a freeware divx/xvid encoder that is not a time/feature limited demo I'd love you to post me a link.

Enjoy, comments/critique welcomed, [yes I do know there's a couple of tracking errors in the footage, but I'd have to start again to iron them out, so I just lived with it]
I liked some of the camera work, if used rarely they look great but it was done too much for me to rate the video highly. Also the camera was constantly tilted.

umm well its a very nice video, but for me the cameras put me right off it so 7/10.

Thank you for expressing an opinion, all feedback is good feedback whether positve or negative.

Having said that I'm a little disappointed that you didn't mention the 10 hours work that went into masking off the background behind the Bridgestone FXR when it slides into the corner [the background blurs but the car doesn't] I suppose the effect is lost in the crappy wmv render.

Never mind, I'm glad your overall impression seems to have been positive.

I picked up a copy of Virtual Dub, but it appears unable to do more than interpolate the frame rate to something else [daft idea imho] and then export as an avi - forgive my stupidity but are there different versions?
Ah well the problem there is that by blurring the background you immediately focus on the car, its not a natural thing to look at the blurry background...second time round I will know what to look for

Well yes, there are a few versions but by 'divx/xvid encoder' i assumed you were looking for something that simply took source video and encoded it to divx or xvid, avi being the standard format.

VirtualDub does pretty much exactly that, it's not an editor, even though you can do some minor editing.

Edit: liked the magic floaty cameras, could've almost done without the few static ones.

Yep, so you'd finish your editing and save it as uncompressed AVI then you'd compress the audio to mp3 or ogg, chuck it into Vdub and encode it with xvid and mux the viudeo/audio together and get an awesome end product compressed and looking good.

Now that I've watched it I can comment. I gota say that the camera work is outstanding. Sometimes weird tilt but overall very well done. The rotation IMO coud;ve been done better by leaving the camera centred on the car instead of using the free roam camera. OVerall nice vid shame about the backgroudn blurring not being very noticable. With a moving sky and faded cars like they do in Top Gear itd be first rate. 8/10
could someone upload that movie to rapidshare.com? please

Rapidshare.de told me that all of its storage space is full atm. So I guess sorry but that's a no.

That's excellent, Mike! You've definitely conquered the effects learning curve.. very strong mood. I can almost smell the motor oil.

Congratulations on a very kewl movie!

Thanks for the compliment Sam. I don't want to sound arrogant but since I have a degree in multimedia design you'd kinda hope I might know my way around a post processing suite
