Bit confused.. it doesnt really bother me at all.. but curious..

say i hit the mrt, its 270 degrees.. but the thing is, when i turn it from the center, its not really 270.. same with 450, 540 and 720.. could someone tell me why its like this, or am i recording it wrong? meaning its not 0 degrees at center.
