Cities without traffic signs
Sounds rather utopic - I'll have to take this up to the parliament of the Republic of Indeterminate Nationality, perhaps we could adopt it too...

I like the "more human interaction" aspect of it but I'd hate to see how an accident would be settled practically; perhaps with the human interactivity involved in the application of punches to faces.
It sounds like they want to create a system as it is in the east. For example, this is how it appears in India:

To my western eyes, every junction looks like the few seconds before T1 on a demo server - lots of cars piling in and hoping. I was amazed on my first journey that I didn't see an accident, but it's been three days now and so far so good.

Most people drive very slowly as the traffic is heavy, there's cars, trucks, busses, scooters, bicycles and pedestrians all using the roads. The faster vehicles have to go around the slower ones, and somehow it all works. There's been more than a few near misses, and I wouldn't want to try walking out there, let alone driving.

When you get to a turning you slow down, and edge towards where you want to go. At some point the oncoming traffic stops and you get to cross. The speeds are reduced because no-one quite knows who's going to go and stop, the roads aren't surfaced perfectly and the mix of traffic as above. There's also an almost constant blare of horns from 6am to 9pm.

I'm not sure how it would work in Europe as we are used to the rules. We've been told for so long that obeying the rules is the safest way to drive, and then they take all the rules away. That doesn't seem to add up.
Dear god, a world full of roundabouts? Sounds like a nightmare.
I know people hate stopping at traffic lights, but the way people deal with roundabouts they'd end up sitting there forever!
A nightmare? Clearly you've not been to Milton Keynes before. Give me a roundabout grid system over traffic lights anyday.

Last time I was in MK was just after the Ikea opened. It was gridlock, irrelevant of what junction method you want

But I've seen plenty of roundabouts in my time, and people don't know how to handle them. They stop and it's as if they're waiting for someone to let them out. Then once they're goign they don't know what lane to be in. Yeesh.
Course you'd never get away with that in London, cause off the circular the roads are all too narrow
Quote from thisnameistaken :One question: What happens when armies of twats descend on Ipswich and completely block all the roads with parked cars?

I think this is an experiment for the UK-based LFSForum-goers with cars

roundabouts still have rules for who has the right of way and the need them to work if i understood that article correctly from skimming through it they also got rid of all row rules

and what exactly is novel about this idea ? i though italy got rid of all traffic rules decades ago ?

AFAIK they still have rules, but nobody don't remember them anymore

They cocked that part up TBH, the roads there can't support the amount of traffic the extra retail stuff (Ikea, Asda etc) brought into the area. And on the A5 junction roundabout no bugger follows the road markings, everyone just picks a direction and goes. Somehow it works.

I find MK much quicker to get from A to B than Plymouth though. Plymouth isn't any bigger I think, but uses traffic lights everywhere as opposed to roundabouts.
a world ful of roundabouts? maybe the [fm] team wil be able to go outside then? lol

meant as a light joke not to offend any [fm] members.
