new job, wish me luck
I started another part time job recently, as if I wasnt busy enough as it is.
I quite enjoy this one though as its at the local kart track. Ive been marshalling up until now but tonight I run my first event as race director.
Im looking forward to it, just hope I dont mess up!
Any other race directors here?
I bet you'll do great!

And if you fail miserably, we'll all laugh at you.

Most important is to feel the race, to know whats going on and then interesting things to say come spontaneously because you think something interesting just happened.
If you create any new 'Walkerisms', be sure to share them.
The trouble is we sometimes get races where almost nothing happens, very few position changes. It seems most of our customers dont really push it alot. Its mainly corporate stuff so unless the company is motorsport based they generally are of such wildly differing abilities they can almost finish the race in qualifying order. We had the some guys from Mitsubishi RalliArt not so long ago, they were all very quick and it made for a very interesting race.
Also, only have kart numbers to work with makes it hard to make it interesting. "kart 1 leads kart 4 by 8 seconds....etc". The rest of the guys manage it so Im sure Ill get the hang of it, rather than just reading out positions and laptimes which is what I mostly did tonight

Yup. I've worked at a few kart tracks over the years. Biggest mistake I ever made was blag flagging a driver for dangerous driving who turned out to be the local equivellent of the mafia. It had me looking over my shoulder as I left work and got into my car...

Blag flag, I never knew about that one
make it more intresting. put drivers on the track to fire people off randomly.

good luck!

It's clearly meant to point to the use of a black handbag as a flag (black bag used as a flag=> blag flag) to singal to drivers they have to behave or risk getting whacked by a handbag after the race is over :ouch:
