I'm looking forward to watching Hamilton in F1 this season. It's just a shame a new TV deal to take F1 away from ITV hasn't been made, the fact i can only watch half of the race due to constant ad breaks REALLY irritates me. Then when it does finally come back on after a break I have to put up with James Allen ,Get it on Sky or back to BBC i say
First black driver eh... There was me thinking Jordan had signed Karthikayan, I must have been dreaming. Of course, it depends on your reaction to political correctness. Personally I dont give a damn about political correctness, or skin colour. My only reservation about Hamilton in F1 is that the British ITV coverage is going to talk him up like some kind of demi-god, but at least that means there will be less air time to shout about Jenson "Cant find the right" Button.
Well i read in this weeks autosport about the Paffett deal, apparently he will get a race seat. It is likely to be with a Mclaren B team or team supplied with Mercedes engines.

Hehe, almost identical to what I heard about a year ago: Paffett was going to test for a year and McLaren was going to start a B-team in 2007 with Hamilton and Paffett driving. Well maybe the plan has been alive all the time and has just been pushed up a year.
Yay! Go Hamilton!
Quote from thisnameistaken :Oh christ I hadn't thought of that. He'll probably compare him to other famous black drivers, like BA Baracus.

I'm pretty sure Murdoch drove the van, no?

Evidence to the contrary:
1. It has a spoiler on top.
2. The undisputable Exhibit A:

We're a set, foo'

Go and wash your month out and confess your sin that has to be the most stupid comment i have heard all year and if the bbc did every get f1 right it will be showed 2 weeks later late on a work night like they have done with motogp and they do not deserve hockey right because the bbc sports programme is such a joke

Jeez, you brits with your F1 coverage bashing. You have F**IN' MARTIN BRUNDLE and you have shorter and less ad-breaks than most other countries! Stop complaining! If more of you could understand other languages than English and could actually compare your coverage to other countries' then you would realize how good it really is. I would PAY to get ITV!
Yes the adverts can get annoying but ITV have to pay Bernie some how
Quote from GFresh :Get it on Sky

Is this some kind of joke? F1 needs to be put on the protected list as grade A - along with premiership football and test cricket back there. Also, add A1GP to grade B and the NFL.

Sky is killing sport - money today but when people realise that pay per view is a stupid idea because no-one is watching it it all the leagues that have took 30 pieces of silver from Rupert Murdoch will be on their knees.

Sky is destroying sport in the UK - the protected list should be tripled in length and F1 should be kept on ITV or go to the Beeb.
Quote from tristancliffe :I don't expect much of him. Massively overrated in my opinion.

And how are they allowed to refer to him being black? If that is even the slightest issue, then surely that is a form of racism, and all of McLaren and their sponsors should be shot? In a raceless world we wouldn't even notice the colour of his skin, surely?

It's clear McLaren's driver pairing isn't your idea of a dreamteam but your critisicm of McLaren is misplaced. This quote is from Ron Dennis when asked about the issue of Hamilton's skin colour in F1:

"To be honest it just doesn't register and it never has.

"We are very aware of the ability for Lewis' colour to be used as a headline or certainly contained in the first sentence of any of the stories that come out of today, and many of the stories that will be published in the future.

"He has been in the McLaren-Mercedes family for nine years, we don't hide from the fact that he is from a mixed race background, but it doesn't matter. And we certainly want to take a path in which it is not played to or played against: he is what he is, from our perspective, there is not even the angle of 'does this make him more determined?'

"The Tiger Woods label, it does make you smile and you could argue it is a compliment, but it is not relevant to our objective, he is in our team because he has earned the opportunity.

"The fact that he is in the car is because he has earned it and not because there is any negative or positive coming out of his colour, he is just one of us, he has been one of us for nine years, he has earned it and he deserves the opportunity."
For becky and tristan

just kidding

lol coincidentally I am drinking some Fierce Gatorade as I type this

Good stuff, but when it's too cold, my brain freezes over
well, i guess we will all see for sure if he's overrated like you bunch say soon
Quote from Clownpaint : I think the colour of his skin isn't just the headlines, it's his entire career. He's been pampered along the road to f1 by Mclaren and I feel he's overrated.

So he got picked by McLaren because he's black. Since when do they have a racial quota in race teams?

Quote from Clownpaint :But anyone can be fast with the amount of training he's been given.

I don't think I should have to point out how that argument is totally flawed. It's not like all the current F1 drivers were poor talented drivers who started out on farms racing tractors - the biggest percentage are pampered rich kids who got tossed in because it was their dad's dream (or because their dad was a race driver) that had the means for lots of training.
shush xaotik. this thread is no place for logic, if you havent noticed
Quote from Gabkicks :well, i guess we will all see for sure if he's overrated like you bunch say soon

Indeed we shall, and I look forward to either proved right or wrong. I'm not so stubborn to change my mind if it turns out I was wrong and he is a megastar. It'll be fun finding out (as long as I can mute James Allen along the way).

Don't know what your beef is with Sky tbh! They have all the best sport (Bar F1) and the best coverage, if all the sport was on ITV then i'd never watch it because they appear so amature at what they do, and i cant stand the breaks all the time.
Personally, i'd love to be able to watch F1, hit the red button and be able to choose what car to watch from the in car view. Thats never gonna happen on ITV. But as i said, i wouldn't mind it going back to the BBC either.

WTF did I say that could have justified 'Hatoraid'?

I dont have an opinion of Hamilton because I didn't watch GP2 last season. I didn't watch it because every week James Allen told me the result 1 week before it was aired. When James Allen didn't spoil the race, that twerp Steve Ryder did, so there was no point watching it.

All I know about Hamilton is that James Allen is going to be singing his praises even if he turns out to be worse than Giovanni Amati, who I know the vast majority of this forum could beat in a pedal kart.
I don't want to get into the Hamilton skin colour debate, despite it making all the headlines- as if being black in this day and age is a massive handicap which he has overcome in the face of white oppression.......and he's not even black anyway. /minirant

F1 wouldn't be any better on Sky than it is on ITV. I'm fairly content with the current coverage. Allen is a fool, but he brightens up the dreary races with his inane waffle and stupid observations which make you picture Brundle's probable cringing "if I ignore him he might shut up" reaction.
I just WISH that F1 would broadcast a widescreen picture! It's not like nobody has a widescreen tv (I don't think you can buy 4:3 ratio full size tvs anymore can you?), and those that do still have those wouldn't lose anything anyway.
Quote :I just WISH that F1 would broadcast a widescreen picture!

+1 fella
Quote from J.B. :If he's slower than double WDC Alonso nobody is going to criticize him for it and if he's faster on occasion the media are going to go nuts.

Exactly! Perfect situation to be starting out in I think.

Hamilton!
