The online racing simulator
Installing and unlocking without an interent connection
Heya. I have a computer at my friends house right now. I was showing her racing sims.. lfs. However, I cannot access the interent with my gaming computer, All she has is a laptop with a wireless connection. ( and dosent know where the wirless router is, or any of the passwords) Is there a way i can unlock lfs on her laptop and transfer it over via cd to my computer?

No, you need an internet connection to unlock.
You're tough outta luck there I'm afraid.
Yeah but i have a internet connection on this computer (laptop). I need a internet connection for the computer i want to use for lfs? there is no way to activate with another computer with a internet connecion?
Nope, short of plug her laptop into your internet connection, unlock it, amd then unplug it.
There's no point in playing(in lack of a better word) LFS without an internet connection. Multiplayer's kinda the whole point of LFS, isn't it?
Hot Lapping.

see if you can get your computer online through her lap top.
Got a hub? Laptop to hub with ethernet cable. PC to hub with ethernet cable. PC to internet via your ISP. Laptop now shares ISP.
couldn't you install LFS on her laptop, unlock it, then copy the folder to your computer after that?

No, LFS is hardware locked, saying that though, there is an interesting thread in the bugs forum about copied LFS S2 folders remaining unlocked on a different PC with the same hardware.

Dan,

What about popping LFS on a USB pen thingy?

Or would that not work

Wouldn't remain unlocked unless you had an identical PC!

You need a CAT5 "patch" cable and then plug it in her network port and then your pc. Set up ICS on her machine and its sorted.

PS. MUST be a patch cable and not a passthrough.
No u need a crossover cable not a patch cable, two different things. Enable internet connection sharing, job done, cost about £1
Can't you just unplug the ethernet cable from the desktop and plug it into the laptop?

I'm assuming from the replies that you can't but you never know...
It might be worth seeing if you can use your mobile phone to connect the pc to the internet. My old Motorola V3 had the option iirc.

No you can't because the signals are different. The signal goes from one computer to the router, gets crossed over, then gets directed to the 2nd computer. Linking up 2 computers without the router, you need a different cable, called a crossover cable which is wired differently. The signal crossing over happens in the cable.
Agreed, that's what i said

Unless of course you mean plug Ethernet from router straight into laptop, that would work, no need to connect to desktop then.
DOH! I misinterpreted DennisJr13 as saying to unplug from the router making the connection computer to computer or something. I don't know what I was thinking. It's been a rough day right from the start.
Soooo, has he tried my advice yet? If you have an internet connection on the desktop you should just be able to switch the cables from the router to the desktop TO the router to the laptop. Though some ISP's need to have their software installed to work...
