G25 sequential mode sticks in upshift position -- mod ideas?
I am sure everyone using the G25 stick in seq. mode has experienced this at least a couple times: you reach over for a quick upshift and the weight of your hand presses down on the stick at the same time you pull it back, with the result that it stays in that position rather than springing back to center.

Not a huge deal, but passingly annoying when it happens. I was just wondering if any of you who have dismantled it and poked around inside saw any possibilities for a modification that would eliminate this problem.

I don't know any mods to fix this, because the push-down feature is in sequential mode strangely enough.... but the only solution I have is to hold it/hit it like you are holding a cup. If you grab it from the top, your chances of pushing it down are higher. And when in that mode you want to be fast so hitting in quick repetitions is how you want to do it.

You may think that pushing up on the stick should shift up, but most race cars with this kind of stick you actually pull back to shift up, and push forward to shift down. At least, this is the most common form I see nowadays. If you setup your stick to do this, the chances of messing up are lower. Because when you need to shift up, it is usually slower than when doing it quickly for shifting down. Shifting up is casual and timed, so usually you have your hand resting on the shifter's base and pull back at the right intervals for shifting up. And when shifting down under braking, you can just hit the front of the knob for some quick "taps" to shift down.

If there is a mod, I am pretty sure that changing the spring for the push-down motion can be changed to a stiffer one. A teammate of mine (Sidi) has wanted to change it, and he has pictures of it here:

Thanks, tweaker, that replacement push-down spring idea seems do-able. For the amount I actually use reverse, I don't think having it a bit more difficult to get to would be a problem. Heck, it wouldn't kill me to just lock it out entirely and map R to a button, if it came to that. I don't think I am ready to go to that extreme yet, though.

What does the second spring with the metal ball (replaced with a nylon ball) do? What's the advantage of the nylon?

It's used to keep the stick in the forward (1, 3, 5), neutral and backward (2, 4, 6, reverse) positions while in the H-shifter mode.

Take a look at the left metal plate on the above picture. You can see three small holes in it. This is where the metal ball is pushed in by the spring so the shifter would be fixed in that position. The stronger you make the spring, the harder it's fixed into position and the more force you need to move it between forward, neutral and backward positions. The nylon ball is softer and doesn't make the loud click noise.
Nice mod there tweak, looks like it will make the whole unit feely sturdier and anything to reduce the noise is good. Where to get the right replacement parts?
Not mine, it's Sidi's . I've asked him to comment in here, maybe he'll come around to say something
sidi, could you also make a small video or something? I'm really interested how your modded shifter looks and sounds.
btw sidi, what is a nylon ball and where do i actually get those?
